The Tenth Cycle: A Mystery Thriller of Ancient Secrets and Modern Threats (A Rossler Foundation Mystery Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,895 ratings

Ancient knowledge. Modern cover-ups. A discovery lost to time.

For thousands of years, the truth about civilization has been hidden—suppressed, exploited and buried beneath layers of deception. Some believe the answers lie within the Great Pyramid of Giza, but no one has ever found them. Those who tried were ridiculed, silenced or worse.

When journalist Daniel Rossler and researcher Dr. Sarah Clarke stumble upon a secret hidden within the pyramid, their discovery threatens to upend everything we know about the past. What begins as an academic curiosity quickly becomes a fight for survival as they uncover evidence that powerful forces never intended to see the light of day.

As they push forward, skepticism turns to hostility, and dangerous enemies close in. The Orion Society, a ruthless secret organization, will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried. But they’re not the only ones watching. Intelligence agencies, military forces and even the President of the United States have their own reasons for keeping the past hidden.

Caught in a deadly struggle between those who seek the truth and those who will do anything to suppress it, Rossler and Clarke must unravel an ancient mystery before it’s too late. Will they reveal humanity’s greatest secret, or will the truth die with them?

The Tenth Cycle is a gripping techno thriller packed with lost history, global conspiracies, and a battle for knowledge that could change everything. This fast-paced adventure is the first book in JC Ryan’s Rossler Foundation Mystery Series.

Review

Meghan Amazon Top 1,000 Reviewer - For some reason, JC Ryan's thriller, 'The Tenth Cycle' reads like the offspring of a Tom Clancy and a Clive Cussler partnership--although JC Ryan can easily stand on his own as an exciting literary force to reckon with. 'The Tenth Cycle' is deeply suspenseful, and right at the get-go, grabs you by the cuffs and compels you to keep turning the pages--and that doesn't even begin to describe what a deliriously entertaining book this is.

At its heart is a conspiracy: a secret about mankind that--if and when revealed--will radically change not only the way men live and think, but also about how they'd regard their future. The secret is zealously guarded by shadowy characters and organizations that put the lives of the two protagonists, Dan Rossler and Sarah Clarke, in grave peril. When academic ridicule intensifies into outright hostility and possibly fatal threats, that's when Dan and Sarah know they're onto something ground-breaking. But then there's the rub--the forces guarding the secret will stop at nothing to guard it and keep it from discovery.

C'est Moi Amazon Reviewer - Definite MUST READ!!! This book is fascinating, keeps you guessing and is truly a work of art! 10 STARS!!! This book is absolutely awesome!! It's complex, but not difficult to keep up with, the characters are three-dimensional, and the author makes you really care about them and feel as though you are part of their group. I truly did not want it to end. This is a book for everyone!

The mysteries discussed here are more than likely things you've wondered about yourself. I know I have!! Mr. Ryan really brought this tale to life and, form, it was like watching a fascinating movie that was over far too soon. I could visualize every single part! I was so involved in the story that, when I was unable to read, I was thinking about the book. I'm thrilled to have found this author and even more thrilled to see he has many more for me to dive into as soon as possible. The Ninth Cycle is already loaded and ready!

Even though I read this book through my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I just purchased it so I could keep it in my digital library to read again, at will. I would give this book 10 stars if they'd let me. I can't say enough how much I truly enjoyed the journey I took with the Rosslerites!!Thanks so much for such a wonderfully written, and well researched story, Mr.Ryan. There's not one thing about it that I would change!

I'm really looking forward to the next book, as it discusses the very controversial Piri Reis map of 1513, and the possible coast of Antarctica without Its icecap!!

PBBJR Amazon Reviewer - An excellent read and wonderfully crafted work, I quickly became addicted to the series. Mr. Ryan has created an entertaining thriller with lovable well developed characters and a fascinating subject matter. This is truly an intelligent thriller.

S Coyle - I absolutely loved this book. The characters are believable. It is one of the best books I have read in years!!!

Having read this series once and becoming a fan of it, I would give this series 10 stars if I could.
The 10th Cyle is the 10th cycle of humans who lived before us and stretched over 20,000 years. A cycle before them left their history for the future and was found by the 10th cycle people, who then left their history for us to find. It was found in Antarctica and has been found by a group of archaeologists. Of course, after having found proof of others before us and the technology they had, bad guys try to take it away from them, and some of the expedition members are murdered. Finding a "book" that has directions on how to use technology and medicine, and translating it, the Rossler Foundation is formed, named after one of its founders. Generously, the foundation releases much information to the governments of the world that pertain to cures and health and all sorts of other things. Of course, other governments want this only for themselves. What happens is described in the following books of this series.
I read this series for the first time maybe 2 months ago and liked it so much that I am rereading it and am now on the last book - again. The good characters are wonderful and believable, and the bad characters are just that - horrible, awful, and so on.
I can't say who will like this series as much as I do, but I hope there are lots of readers, who get as much enjoyment in reading it as I did.
The author has an awesome sense of creativity in this series and has a couple of other series that I have read and enjoyed almost as much as this one.

The selection of the subjects of this series is excellent. That is the subject of archaeological mysteries, e.g., unexplained or difficult to explain findings of ancient sites, constructions, writings, apparent questionable events, historical inconsistencies to the accepted, etc. For that I both compliment and thank the author for his vision, interest, and research. I have long had an interest in these subject and have quite a library of the subject.

I liked the way The Tenth Cycle began and the introductory research brought out concerning the pyramid. I personally found the middle portion of the book a bit slow, but the last 25% or so picked up to speed and interest. I have one critique. There was an over abundance of mutual fawning between Daniel and Sarah. I mean a lot which at times was a distraction to the main story line and subject.

In line with the story line of this book, the following quote from the past might be of interest.

Source: Secrets of the Great Pyramid, Peter Tompkins, Harper & Row 1978 large soft cover edition, Page 113, last paragraph:

“As to why the pyramid was built and its passages carefully secreted, Davidson* surmised that the builder intended to monumentalize the science of his time for another civilization far in the future, much as we go about burying time capsules. According to Davidson, the builder knew that the faculties by which he was able to handle the formulas of natural law could atrophy in man, and that by conveying his science to beings of a later civilization he might spur them to recover those powers.”

    * English structural engineer David Davidson 1884–1956 (The Great Pyramid: Its Divine Message (1924)).

I expect the rest of this series to be very interesting and again thank the author.

Despite a grammatical error here and there, and a repeated misquoting of common colloquialism, this is a great, exciting read and a grand kick-off to what promises to be a great, fun series. The story builds at a good pace and comes to an end that left this reader wanting more.
JC Ryan is self-published, but this book is much more polished than almost any of the self-published ebooks I've encountered previously.
Just to get the petty, but annoying (to me) misquoted colloquialism out of the way, it is properly phrased in the title of this review. Mr. Ryan has a habit of beginning it: "Just because you're NOT paranoid..." The use of "not" negates the point of the phrase. (So, sue me, I have a roomful of nits I've picked over my 60 years of literacy ;-p).
Believe me this fast paced thriller is chock full of people who ARE after our heroes, including people who are just not whom they seem to be. That's as close as I have ever come to including a "spoiler in any of my reviews. Realize as you read, "Trust No One" was never more applicable.
The plot grabs any reader with a sense of history and/or archaeology immediately. The archaeology columnist for The New York Times discovers that there is a way to break/decipher the "message" long thought by some to be present in The Great Pyramid of Giza. He pursues the lead to gratifying, yet life-threatening results. Unbeknownst to him, certain "secret societies" have long been trying to crack this code. One, The Orion Society, composed of members of the most wealthy families in the world, and said to possibly predate the Common Era, is most ruthless in pursuit of what they believe is theirs by right. This society is said to control most of the wealth and many of governments of the world. So, there is something for conspiracy enthusiasts helping to "drive" the story. There is also great satisfaction for those, scientists and otherwise, who believe that the Great Pyramid could not possibly have been built by the Egyptians and is likely far older than it is estimated to be.
Ryan is good at spinning his tale and creates memorable, well-developed characters along the way. It is clear that his writing persona is sort of "Star Trek" Federation altruistic, which this reader found quite gratifying.
I give a strong "thumbs up" to anyone considering reading this book. Lots of action, surprises and twists and turns await you.

Another series penned by a Great Favourite Author of mine. It took me a bit to get into the story in this first book in the series, but it quickly piqued my interest. I was not disappointed as the story got deeper and deeper into the idea of interpreting the meaning of what was behind the configuring of the blocks. Another 5 Star reading by a Great writer.

WELL! I don't know about anybody else, but this is the most amazing 'adventure story' I have ever read!

It's starts of in an ordinary sort of way, about the size of a pebble but like a snowball it grows larger and larger as it progresses.

I suppose it will be relegated to the 'Sci-Fi' section of our reading world, but like many many other people I find the element of truth in it is so logical and real, that I feel sure it has a strong basis of truth.

Not nearly enough is known of this planet yet and certainly very little of the humans living on. We are making some dreadful mistakes that could easily lead us into annihilation, this is point out very clearly here.

The people are very alive and very clearly written, and the extraordinary story is full of tension and mysteries, along with bad guys.

Read it, you won't be able to put it down if you feel there is one chance in a million it is posing something that is real.

The Tenth Cycle is billed as a thriller, and with themes about the pyramids and the mathematical puzzles contained therein appealed to me a lot. But after only reading 25% of the book the mooning between Daniel and Sarah finally wore me down. I obviously hadn't got to the thriller bit yet, but enough is enough. So the 2 stars is just for the 25% of the book I managed to plow through.
