Robert Fear has lived in Eastbourne, on the south coast of the UK for half his life. He moved there to be with Lynn, his future wife and is still there with her over thirty years later. As cat-lovers they have taken on several rescue cats over the years and are owned by three at the moment.

For his day job Robert works as a self-employed software consultant. In his spare time he writes, edits and self-publishes books, and organises annual creative writing showcases.

Robert’s interest in travel goes back to his twenties when he spent most of his time abroad. His experiences included; a summer in Ibiza, hitch-hiking around Europe and touring the USA & Canada. His most eventful trip was in 1981 when he travelled around Asia.

Born into a religious sect known as the Exclusive Brethren, his father John took the brave step of leaving it with his young family when Robert was nine years old. Robert never saw his grandparents again but is thankful for being able to grow up outside this restrictive group. His life has been full of adventures that he would never have experienced otherwise.

A timely book of short, inviting stories that are gripping, poignant, and compassionate.
5 out of 5 stars
A timely book of short, inviting stories that are gripping, poignant, and compassionate.
What a delight “40 Inspirational True Stories” is, especially at a time like this when what we need most is enthusiasm and encouragement. Twenty-six accomplished writers share events that shaped their lives, sometimes in smaller ways, sometimes in large, but always for the better. The insights they offer into the warm interiors of their lives from times long past as well as the present, are revealing, enlightening, and comforting. I finished this book with a feeling that the world is a good place and full of good people doing their best to live their lives with quiet dignity to the benefit of themselves, their families, and the communities of which they are a part. A timely book of short, inviting stories that are gripping, poignant, and compassionate.

This collection of true stories is well-written, with a scope that can reach a large audience. 26 writers take a clip of their life and share what still lingers, perhaps haunts, and maybe is still unfinished. I loved the approach and enjoyed reading a story each evening. Bravo to all.

Each of Robert Fear's anthologies have been true gifts to his readers, and this one is no different. The stories are as always, fascinating, poignant, hilarious, heart-rending and timeless. Robert has a real talent for collecting and putting together volumes that one can savor; one story, one experience at a time, or binge on like an addictive mini-series. I was touched by these stories in a myriad of ways, and I know you will be too!

Such a nice compilation of stories. Some stories were funny, some were educational, some had sadness, some had joy. One thing they had in common is they were all interesting. I especially enjoyed the fact that they were written by authors from all over the world, it was fun to get a glimpse into to many different kinds of lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully diverse read

This is a wonderful book packed full of varied short stories by an equally diverse group of authors. There is something for everyone which is why I purchased a number of copies as gifts to send around the world to my bookworm friends!

Some stories, such as those penned by Elizabeth Moore and Susan Mellsop, made me tingle with goose bumps. One of my favourites is by Ronald Mackay, who captures Scotland and his observations of another human being so beautifully that I was sad when it came to an end. Other authors delighted me with tales of travel, life in different countries, family pets and learning new skills – all truly inspirational in their own unique way.

I enjoyed being able to pick up and put down this book, dip in and out at will, even when time was limited and still come away inspired or moved. The black and white photos add an extra element as does the helpful contributors section featuring a biography for each author. Many have written books in their own right making it possible to go on and discover more from your particular favourites.

Robert Fear, very much an author in his own right, has edited and complied an interesting read which I thoroughly enjoyed and am sure others will too – well done.

    Wonderful Compilation.

What a wonderful book containing 26 true stories by very talented authors, many of whom have written and published books of their own. Robert, himself, is a talented author and I have enjoyed his works.

It is a delightful compilation of heart-warming, encouraging and emotional stories all beautifully written to draw the reader into the author's world. There is something in here for everyone, delightful tales of travel, how life differs in different countries, learning new skills. In between shifts at the club, I was able to pick this book up and read a story or two, ideal for me at the time.

I was particularly moved by Elizabeth Moore's story, I admit my eyes leaked.

Highly recommended. Thank you, Robert, I look forward to reading more of your works
