- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWhen my son was around 6-7 years old, deeply engrossed in the world of superheroes and comic books, I decided to introduce a bit of depth to his collection with '40 Sufi Comics - Volume 2.' Looking back, it's clear this was one of those parenting decisions that paid off more than I could have imagined. This book isn't just a collection of stories; it's a treasure trove of wisdom and lessons presented in a format that's engaging for kids but profoundly meaningful for adults as well.
What makes this book stand out is how the teachings of Sufism are woven into stories that are both accessible and visually appealing to children. It's one thing to tell a child about virtues like kindness, honesty, and compassion, but '40 Sufi Comics' brings these concepts to life through stories that stick with you, growing and maturing alongside you. Years later, I can see the subtle ways these stories have shaped my son's character and behavior, embedding a sense of morality and understanding that goes beyond the surface level.
This book is a hidden gem for parents looking to enrich their children's minds and souls. It's not just about entertaining them with another comic book but about offering them a glimpse into a world of spiritual wisdom and ethical guidance. '40 Sufi Comics - Volume 2' is a testament to the power of storytelling, proving that lessons wrapped in the right stories can leave a lasting impact. Whether you're young or simply young at heart, this collection is a wonderful addition to any bookshelf, promising not just moments of joy but a lifetime of reflection."
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBeautiful stories and advice throughout the book that helps one contemplate their path in life. The various stories and quotes help the reader deeply introspect with regards to their own character, whether good traits or flaws and gives relevant Quranic verses to help address these intrinsic flaws. The book is also extremely relevant in these challenging times as is beautifully narrated and depicted in the story of the man with the headache. It highlights the patience we must all have during testing times and that we must rely on and put our full trust in Allah to guide us through these times so that we may be from those who are successful in his eyes. An excellent book that I would definitely recommend to everyone wether Muslim or non-Muslim to read through during these challenging times to glean the knowledge, wisdom and advice of the righteous that have come before us.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFor those who have read Sufi Comics before, you are in for another great work! With each new book, the authors grow in the depth of the message and skill of their delivery. This is an invaluable contribution that is useful for both young audiences and adults. As an Islamic studies teacher I appreciate the potential of sharing the important messages found within the pages of Sufi comics in a format that is easy to read for a young audience. They have taken potent the potent ethical and spiritual messages found with the rich Islamic tradition of Sufism and put them into an easily digestible format.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWith each iteration, the brothers get better at what the do. The stories are lovingly illustrated, the Qur'anic connections are more explicit, and the use of color is gorgeous. The stories they are sharing are timeless, and continue to offer guidance as to how to live your lives in the present day.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis follow up to their first collection of Sufi Comics could have been a collection of lesser stories. Instead, the brothers shift to more metaphorical material -- for those familiar with the Christian Bible, it's as if the first volume were longer parables like the Prodigal Son or the Good Samaritan, and this volume is more along the lines of the Widow's Mite or the Mustard Seed.
But, as in those cases, "shorter" doesn't mean less important or less thought-provoking, and each of these stories is a lesson in how a good person focuses on doing right, both in service to others and in finding personal peace and satisfaction.
For parents of middle-school kids, I'd suggest starting with the first volume to set the stage, as these more concentrated nuggets might be harder to understand until young readers are in the flow of the philosophy, but they're equally as important in teaching values and dedication to the good.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWe got volume 1 of this book for our kids many years ago. Not only have our kids enjoyed it, we also used this as a teaching resource in weekly sunday schools. Now when we found out that a volume 2 is released, we had to get it. And it doesn't disappoint at all. Both the illustrations as well as the content is top notch. I'd highly recommend this (as well as volume 1 for those who don't have it) for great story telling with important lessons for not only young children but older ones as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAs a Christian I have been interested in Sufism for many years. I first came across the Sufi comic books a few years ago from a well-known crowd sourcing company. I purchased all of the Sufi comic books that were available. Occasionally a new comic would show up on the Internet. I am glad that Mohammed Ali Vakil and Mohammed Arif Vakil have published volume 2. It will be my joy to read and learn later today as I have a long plane flight ahead of me. If you enjoy the poetry of the great Sufi poet Rumi, you need to get their book as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis comic explores teachings of Sufism, the mystical branch of Islamic thought, whose wisdom, like mysticism of other religions, is universal but uses its own frame of reference and language. So though the comic is presented in an Islamic context, the teachings, such as being thankful for what we have, are universal to all ethical and religious philosophies. It covers the topics of 'Spirituality', 'Worldly Life', 'Heart & Wisdom' and 'Relationships with People'. The teaching are usually about a page long, in simple, full colour illustrations, followed by a related verse from the Qur'an and sometimes a reflection from the author. Some of the parables really affected me and I have been meditating on them since reading ('Why docent God do something?', 'Less is More' and 'In Search of Water' a parable about the search for God). This is the ideal book to pick up if you are feeling a bit lost in the world, having a low day, or looking for divine inspiration. I recommend this book for people of all ages and faiths (I'm a 40 year old Christian), but if you are a spiritual seeker and a lover of comics (like me) this is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friendly, deep and beautiful comics for all
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEach quote or story is so well illustrated. It gives a really good insight of the core message of Islam for both Muslims and non Muslim, adults and children. I also love the reflections of the authors throughout the book. I just go back to it whenever I feel the need, and I am looking forward to purchase the other books too !
Thank you Arif and Ali :)
