Ninth Cycle Antarctica: A Techno-Thriller of Lost Civilizations and Government Secrets (A Rossler Foundation Mystery Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,574 ratings

A lost civilization in Antarctica. A map that shouldn’t exist. And a truth the world isn’t ready for.

In November 2002, an elite U.S. Navy SEAL team is sent to Antarctica to rescue a missing film crew. They return empty-handed—except for one thing: mysterious footage of strange artifacts buried deep beneath the ice. Everyone who views the film receives a chilling warning: speak of what you've seen and face the consequences.

More than a decade later, Professor Charles Summers stumbles upon an impossible discovery—a 16th-century map depicting Antarctica’s coastline with astonishing accuracy. Even NASA scientists are forced to update their own modern surveys.

But how could such a map exist three centuries before Antarctica was officially discovered? Who created these maps? How did they see Antarctica before it was buried in ice? Could an ancient civilization have once thrived there? But science says Antarctica has been frozen for millions of years…

Determined to uncover the truth, Summers and the Rossler Foundation launch an expedition deep into the icy wilderness. But they’re not the only ones searching. The ruthless Orion Society will stop at nothing to ensure the past stays buried.

As the race for history’s greatest secret turns deadly, will Summers and his team rewrite history—or will the truth be lost forever beneath the ice?

Ninth Cycle Antarctica is the second thrilling installment in JC Ryan’s acclaimed Rossler Foundation Mystery series, blending historical mystery, international conspiracy and pulse-pounding action.

Review

Amazon Customer - Even Better Than The First One. I think Ninth Cycle Antarctica is even better than The Tenth Cycle, although I thought JC Ryan did an outstanding job with is first book. It was really good but this one is even better.

Ryan has such and entertaining writing style it is a pleasure to read his books. I like his character development and interaction, the intrigue, surprises and twists in the plots. He obviously did a lot of research for this book to make the whole setting realistic and believable. His description of some of the scenes there in Antarctica was so realistic I could feel the cold and had to turn the heater on!

I have subscribed to his mailing list after reading the first book and I am glad I did. Got the pre-release a few days ago before anyone else and just had to sit down and read it from cover to cover.

I am all excited to see that third book, Genetic Bullets.

C'est Moi Amazon Reviewer - JC Ryan does it again! A magnificent read that you won't be able to put down. I read the 10th Cycle, first book in this series, a little while back and loved it! I couldn't wait to start this one, especially because it is based around the controversial Piri Reis map, compiled in 1513, that shows an accurate depiction of the coastline of Antarctica before the Polar Ice Shelf covered it. (By 23 million years ago,Antarctica was mostly icy forest and for the last 15 million years, it has been a frozen desert under a thick ice sheet.) How did they map a continent's shoreline when it was covered in ice??

I loved this book more than the first one! Mr. Ryan certainly does his homework to get the details accurate and tell an incredible story that draws you in so you feel you're on the adventures with the characters. This novel particularly kept my attention for several long nights. It's fascinating to contemplate the possibilities of past advanced civilizations, wiped out from various catastrophes, and sending mankind back into the dark past from which it arose. Far too many inexplicable objects have been discovered to make sense of human evolution as it's currently accepted.

This book, although fiction, really makes you consider these items, "from past advanced civilizations", as exactly what they appear to be. It does not draw the "alien visitation" conclusion, but the fact that mankind has been on this world and wiped out many, many times over, with very little of their technology escaping that destruction.

This book is amazing and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Meghan Top Amazon Reviewer - Will blow your mind away. Having read JC Ryan's previous book, 'The Tenth Cycle', I knew the second one would either be a let-down or at least equal to the first book in terms of all its literary qualities. But I'm glad to report that this second book, 'Ninth Cycle Antarctica', sets the bar significantly higher in all aspects: from suspense,to the depth and intricacy of plot, to pacing, to masterful storytelling, and even the overall entertainment value. Indeed, author JC Ryan took on the challenge of writing an even greater book--and succeeded in a flourish.

The book, this time, is about the mystery surrounding Antarctica, somehow ushered in by the video footage salvaged from a doomed Navy SEAL mission in the said continent. The footage seems to indicate intriguing artefacts buried under the perma-ice. But this is only the tip of the iceberg(pun intended), as what really gets the folks at the Rossler Foundation itching for answers is the existence of a map that accurately shows the coastlines of Antarctica--a map that could have possibly be drawn from space, with the use of advanced imaging equipment able to penetrate the ice cover. But there's one major catch: the said map was made in the 16th century, and the sheer lack of answers as to how that was possible propels Rossler Foundation's Charles Summers to head over there and investigate. Joining their team is a wild card:marine veteran Josh Rossler, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, haunted by his demons and his guilt. Of course, what's a Rossler Foundation mission without the murderous intervention of the Orion Society, who stealthily infiltrates Summers' team, with the ultimate goal of taking over once Summers and his men are dead.

Now, if that fails to get your juices flowing, then nothing will. Because, at bottom, the 'Ninth Cycle Antarctica' is a darned great read--author JC Ryan masterfully uses the kind of stuff you usually find featured on shows like 'Ancient Aliens', intricately weaving such mysteries in such a believable plot that you'll find your heart racing merely a few pages into the book. The magic thing that holds the whole plot together is JC Ryan's literary craftsmanship--he has that uncanny knack to put little " plot bombs"along the way, compelling you to keep on turning the pages as he carefully strikes a balance between his careful use of verisimilitude and jaws-dropping plot twists. When I say you will not put this book down, I'm not kidding.

Thoroughly satisfying, 'Ninth Cycle Antarctica' is a definite must-read--and if I may say,
should also have a movie version. Fans of suspense thrillers who love well-woven conspiracy theories and a bit of romance on the side will find their thirst slaked. Get a copy today--well-deserving of the five-star ratings it gets.

This book is very detailed as the author certainly did his research. I enjoyed reading all of this book as it's action packed, deals with real life issues, and has a bit of romance thrown in as well!

I'm looking forward to reading more of JC Ryan's novels!

I couldn't wait to read this sequel. I loved the 1st book in this series. I loved the idea of this book. I was disappointed by the overly slow beginning of the book. It seemed to me that it just took forever for the plot to actually unfold. I thought the telling of the preparations for the expedition and the description of the journey to and arrival at the Antarctic was tedious.
One of JC Ryan's strengths is character development and that does come through as the story unfolds, the reader comes to know JR Rossler, the brother of the founder of the Rossler Foundation, Dan Rossler. Other characters are also rounded out nicely, which makes the book more readable.
When the action finally picks up, I found that my suspension of disbelief was really stretched and challenged. I found the denouement disappointing in that it made the whole book seem to be just an overlong setup for the return expedition the following year.
I believe that this book could have been a novella, written tightly and tersely to much better effect. Still, the book serves the purpose of moving the series along and keeps the reader interested. Good enough, but not great like the previous book.

Don't know just what drew me to this novel, possibly the cover art ice cave, being Norwegian and also a U.S. Marine of 78 years, I enjoyed "Ninth Cycle Antarctica" for its military flavor as well as the mystery/adventure story line. As a Marine, (Once a Marine, always a Marine), I could not let pass the inference that "The Marines" marched to the tune of "As The Caissons Go Rolling Along", which is a U.S. Army field artillery traveling song. The Marines march to The Marine Corps Hymn. Over all, an entertaining read, not my usual fare. (Maybe a note to your background researcher?) : ]

Entertaining but I expected more about the misterious 10th cycle civilization and less character development. To my liking it has too much unnecessary detail on personal relations between the characters and not enough meat on the actual mysterious ancestors.

Really enjoying the series so far.

The first chapter puzzled me, it was a real teaser but wasn’t directly wrapped up during the remainder of the book - maybe I missed something, or maybe I need to read the next one.

Just downloaded the next one and looking forward to an early night tonight to get it started.

Once again I found this so enthralling. Ryan hits of a truth that I think is hidden in all of us and then weaves a very fine novel around it.
That we are the next in the cycle of civilisations that have grown up and broken down makes so much sense, and as I already know there are mysteries out there that are not yet 'allowed to be released' this novel brings it home, resulting in thought and acceptance of the logic of what Ryan has written.
If you are interested in the human history that is not fanciful, is not beyond belief and which is logical then I suggest you will get a great deal out of this novels.
Yes, they are novels, but the facts Ryan brings to the surface have been well documented and it's up to you to work out where fact ends and the novel begins.
    Enjoy.
