WHAT A BOOK.
I absolutely loved this work, to be honest, and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I did not plan on finishing it as fast as I did, but I just had to devour it. It was too good. "A Cure for Humanity" drips with nuance with a spin on the paranormal genre I've never seen before, and wow does it do it well.
Glydan & Albion's relationships was so complex, right from the start. I love the 'forbidden romance' trope, and it was done super well here. I'll get more into that in my spoilers section. Seraph & Rukshana were INCREDIBLY sweet, and I want to see more werewolf x vampire couples in the future. Again, they dripped with really beautiful nuance as well. Finally, Griffin--I think he was my favorite character. Honestly, every character was well written. I didn't expect the twists in the novel, aside from predicting one (just not the source). Luca was really charming too!
**SPOILERS START**
In terms of Glydan x Albion, that brought up so many lessons and questions. I loved the 'love is complicated' message in this book, which was displayed incredibly well. Glydan was punished heavily, and constantly, for making excuses for Albion's extreme bias. He let love get in the way of things, but I also really couldn't blame him, because it's true--love is complicated. Yet, at the same time, I'm conflicted, because indeed at times Glydan was brushing reality aside. I was definitely meant to feel conflicted, though.
I loved how, in the end, he accepted he might not be able to change Albion. BUT... there might have been a glimmer of hope at the end there. Their relationship was sweet and riddled with problems. I know it's no fairy tale ending, but perhaps in the future something COULD work out. Real life is complicated, though. I am very curious to see what ends up happening after everyone is released.
"A Cure for Humanity" is such a clever title. I started to catch on mid-book somewhat, but not the connection to the monster. I figured Yanatha was actually turning her father into a VAMPIRE and was sort of right. I mean, he was 'partially' a vampire. I like how no 'cure' was ever found (since it wasn't a cure, but just a way to wipe them out anyhow) for vampires & werewolves.
Luca was a surprising character that I couldn't get a hold on until the end. He was definitely grey area, and I couldn't tell whether he was working with or against the protagonists. His powers are super cool, though. Thralling inanimate objects? That's very clever.
Griffin's story was one that I adored. He was the father figure and I wanted to hug him the entire time. He dripped with sweetness and always seemed to be there for...well, everyone. What a great character. It's so nice to see a vampire depicted this way. Actually, all the vampire & werewolf characters were sweet. It was humans that were the monsters in this story.
Finally, Seraph & Rukshana were so bloody sweet. Rukshana was able to quiet her hatred and form a connection with Seraph despite what werewolves did to her family. I absolutely LOVE how she was the ally for Glydan toward the end there and came to an understanding with him. That was incredibly wise, and I love her character a lot. Seraph was a bucket of awesome and energy. She was quite emotional, which made her easy to connect to. Super caring but super easy to upset depending on the situation--I connected with her extremely well in that.
**SPOILERS END**
I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed this book. The vampire & werewolf lore was AMAZING. I absolutely LOVE living vampires, and turning them into a species formed by genetics is lore I want to see more of. This is how the vampire genre should evolve (hah). I like it better than 'traditional undead lore' by so much. I'm going to making a book blog post on this, though, so I'll dive into more detail there.
All in all, what a wonderful book. I ate through it much faster than I expected and would read a sequel in a heartbeat. The characters were super easy to connect to, and the relationships were wonderfully complex. I highly recommend this for every fan of the paranormal & fantasy genre. There are so many messages and commentaries on society in this book that are important to consider that I felt were well done in this work.
The most important takeaways are two things: You don't cure someone by changing who they are at their core, and you can't blame every person/species for the actions of a few.

In every story, humans are the weaker species.
They are defeated. They fall. They become cattle.
Of course, this is absurd. In the real world, humans survive and conquer. They remain the dominant species.
For Gyldan Crawford, this is a blessing and a curse. Working for a man who sells tools to regulate vampires and werewolves means Gyldan can provide for his household. But, as the only human living in the house, his choice of profession has always been a sore point... until his friends decide to make use of his position to fight back.
Gyldan is forced to keep several plates spinning—one that makes him the perfect personal assistant to his boss, Albion Saint-Richter; one that supports his friends in taking down his employer; and one that keeps his intimate relationship with Albion a secret. He really doesn't have time for another plate to be added to his frantic performance. But when an unknown entity starts killing off Albion's competitors, the rumour mill starts churning: is the murderer a vampire, a werewolf, or a human?

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2021I had the absolute pleasure of reading this book when it first came out on Wattpad. A great balance of horror and humanity and one of the most unique urban fantasy books I've read in a long time. I will definitely read it again! I highly recommend this for any supernatural, paranormal or urban fantasy fans!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021I received a free ebook copy to review! You may remember this book from the tour a couple weeks back. Now it’s time for the review.
A Cure for Humanity is set in an alternate universe where genetic mutations made human variants with traits similar to mythological vampires and werewolves. Gyldan is an employee at a company which seeks to suppress these new groups of people. While Gyldan is trying to help infiltrate the company, he also starts falling for its CEO, making the dangerous plan he and his friends have devised even more complicated.
This was such a fun story! It has both a gay and lesbian couple, in a world which doesn’t have homophobia. It had a found family feel to it. Gyldan and his friends had such a sweet, wholesome relationship. I loved all of them and their different personalities.
There’s a big plot twist that I didn’t see coming, which is always nice since oftentimes they can be obvious. I liked the message that sometimes you just can’t change someone and even if you love them they won’t necessarily become a better person. That’s something many people don’t realize.
I haven’t read urban fantasy in a while and I forgot how much I like it. This is a fun, emotional, heartwarming story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping story about diversity and the responsibility that comes with power
How do we want to live with each other? How much responsibility does each of us carry? And can love conquer all?
Your intuitive answer to those questions might require a second guess after reading "A Cure for Humanity" by A. L. Haringrey.
This urban fantasy honestly has it all -- fast-paced adventure, seemingly impossible romance, friends who become family, and antagonists you'll be struggling to dislike. A.L. Haringrey masterfully blurs the lines between good and bad, right and wrong, to the point you're left questioning whose side you're actually on. "A Cure for Humanity" is social criticism addressing the univeral question of how we handle diversity and power, beautifully wrapped in an emotional, gripping tale.
I recommend this to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Luca, now one of my all time favourite characters.
An amazing new and fresh idea that looks at vampires and werewolves living in 'harmony' with humans. Harmony that is if indeed you are a human. Beautifully written in a way that makes you fall in love with the characters, author A.L. Haringrey takes you through protagonist Gyldan's journey. There is drama, romance and tonnes of action that will constantly make you want to keep reading. A Cure for Humanity is a must read and I would highly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a thrilling tale packed full of relatable characters and a well crafted fictional world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read - Support a passionate author. Buy this book!
Having followed A.L’s work for a number of years (indeed knowing their passion for writing) this book coming to fruition is in more ways than one enough to merit it worthy of reading alone. But there is more. Such a fine crafted story, full of things which challenge the reader in a good way.
I loved every minute of holding and reading this book.
