Great story. Sean Gibbons has done a good job with this tense and gritty thriller. Ben Miller was my favourite character and he’s sure put through hell by Mairtin Folan. I quite like the pace of the story, and I was keen to find out what happened in the end.
Ben Miller certainly isn’t thrilled that Superintendent Mairtin Folan has him over a barrel after finding him with drugs in his taxi. Now Miller has to do pretty much anything Folan tells him to. What makes it worse is Folan is not the cleanest cop on the force, with his interest in a number of whores living in his investment properties. Since he makes quite a nice profit from this little side business, Folan isn’t happy when three of his girls end up murdered. Now he’s demanding Miller find the killer.
Overall, it’s an interesting and entertaining read, and I look forward to more from this Author in the future. 4/5 Star Rating.

A Deadly Calling is a dark and fast-paced thriller with some very well-described violence, and it also shows the underbelly of crime in Galway. Once you start reading it you want to reach the end to learn what will happen to the characters and if justice will be done. Good plot and story, entertaining!

This book is a little more hard-boiled and violent than I care for, but I am impressed by the original premise. This isn't a straight-forward procedural as I was expected because the investigator, Ben Miller, is not fully good or bad. Ben is a taxi drive who isn't afraid of breaking the law to make extra money and he ends up being coerced into becoming an informant for a crooked officer in the Garda. Superintendent Folan actually runs a sex-trafficking ring, while playing the part of an upstanding member of law enforcement.

When someone begins murdering some of the women under Folan's control, the crooked cop demands that Miller investigate. Things change forever when Ben decides to help one of the woman escape from Folan. I like that twist, but sometimes had a hard time following the story. The pace was sometimes slow, but does get more intense as the story continues. I was disappointed that the ending was somewhat vague, but am glad for the chance to have read this unique story.

I received this ebook through the courtesy of Sapere Books. A copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Our protagonist, Ben Miller, a taxi driver, tries to help an immigrant sex worker and is challenged the whole way by a senior and seriously corrupt policeman, Folan, who has some control in the local sex industry.

The plot was confusing at times and lacked intrigue. There was quite a bit of violence though, much of it on 'Repeat'. I couldn't get my head around how much space to operate Folan was given and how many times Ben was beaten (both ways) and got up. The biggest disappointment, however, was the ending which really wasn't - the book just stopped. A few typos too, but nothing disastrous.

Not enough there for me to go back for the sequel, I'm afraid to say. 2.5 stars

Ben Miller is a taxi driver in Galway, Ireland. A frequent client and friend of Miller is an older eastern european prostitute. His nemesis is corrupt Garda Superintendant Folan, who runs a string of eastern european prostitutes from his apartments. The girls are being killed by an unknown assassin. Folan wants Miller to find the killer. Miller wants to expose Folan. His friend wants Miller to help one of the girls to escape.
As the novel progresses Miller is beaten up with regularity by Folan's underlings. There's a gang rape, a drowning, a massive fire. No-one gets what he or she wants.
The writing is adequate, some of the characters including Ben are well done. The plot is filled with violence, murder, and assorted evil-doers. The ending is inconclusive, probably to encourage readers to get the sequel.
I received an advance copy of A Deadly Calling and am voluntarily writing a review.

Thank you to Sapere books for a copy of this book.

This book takes places in Galway Ireland with a less than savory main character who in mixed up with a crooked police superintendent and wants to find a way out but just keeps getting pulled further in and doesn't know who to trust.

This was a fast paced story and page turner. I hope this is a series because I would like to read more with this character.

The story moved fast and kept me on edge, but the violence was intense and frequent. The characters seemed lifelike and believable. It only gets 3 stars because the book just stopped without an ending. It was like the author ran out of inspiration.

I was very pleased to receive an arc copy of this book. This is my unbiased honest review of this book.
Ben Miller a taxi driver after finding a body of a young woman, becomes involved in a world of murder, deception, trafficking and corruption. His inquiries in looking for a missing young woman, lead to more than ever he could of imagined.
This is my first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last. It's one of those books, that once you start reading, you have to carry on to the end. Absolutely loved this book.
