WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS

Fiction has the power to change lives.

Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.

But there are messages within the messages.

There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.

Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.

This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.

THE LOWDOWN

Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.

In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.

In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

This is one of the best stories I've read in the over 60 years of reading! Whoops giving away my age!! C.G did alot of research on this novel and being a pilot and a Marine (formerly) he did well. I've enjoyed all of his books I've read and I've read the entire Corps Justice series and a few others. Well done Mr. Cooper! I especially liked his narrative of killing the scumbag in Japan. Kept me on the edge until Greer's close and personal contact and killing. Loved the tie-in to Camp Fuji. Flown in there many times! Semper Fi! Well done C.G.!! Now get to work on the next Corps Justice series! Us retired guys got to have something to do!!

Early on, I was having a bit of trouble accepting the premise of this story, but I became quickly engaged in the narrative, and of course, the action. I ended up reading it essentially in one sitting! I'm much more of a fan of C.G. Cooper now, having enjoyed, but not been enthralled by my first two "Core Justice" novels. This book reflects a much more compelling protagonist and more interesting characters, and, for lack of a better term, reflects considerably more polished and thoughtful writing. Contrary to another reviewer, I found the "philosophical digressions" entertaining and effective.

A new hero or a serial killer? It takes a few chapters to figure it out. Tom Greer, Jr., former Navy SEAL, current commercial pilot, appears to have one friend, Avery Van Houghton, and a father, former Admiral Tom Greer, Sr., in assisted living with dementia. His life sucks. He needs vengeance for his losses and Avery, as a computer wiz, is able to help him.

Full-bodied, fascinating characters, constant action, and twists and turns that shock, “A Life Worth Taking” will grab you from the beginning! Sophomoric musings 🧐 by Tom slowly bring out the story of a perfect life leading to a perfect disaster. Cal Stokes makes a short appearance (yay) which leads a long-time reader of C.G. Cooper to rejoice! An entertaining and suspenseful read!

First of all. Those who left 3 star reviews, probably are the same people who criticize their granny’s homemade banana pudding. The same blue ribbon pudding that won first place st the county fair for the padtb25 consecutive years. Yes, they are THOSE kinds of people. This book was such a departure from a normal read. It’s in a conversational format - oftentimes I felt like I was having a Shiner beer with the guy and listening to his tale. And what a tale it is. The book isn’t slow. That’s just retarded to think. Does it run 10,000 MPH every page? No - and it shouldn’t. Here are some reflective times by the protagonist. There are some times that reveal so much about the character - hat just adds so much depth to the story. Was it necessary? No.. not at all, if you’re a shallow. superficial, action Jackson type of reader. But if you want moment a of thought provoking revelation a st the genius of this character.. the this book is for you. I review about 1 in 100 books. It’s 0230 and I had to write something. Sorry CG, it’s not a longer review, but I need to get busy and see I there or when there will be another Tom Greer novel. This dude is awesome. Flawed self-admittedly, but a good heart and a man that when he needs to resort do surprise, speed and violence of action. Will not disappoint. Period. I’d give the book 9 stars if I could.
Apologies for spelling and grammatical errors. It is 0254 and I am on my phone writing this. :)

I recently bought several of C. G. Cooper's "co-authored" books and was disappointed in them. They weren't BAD, but weren't up to his usual level of appeal (and I've read all his books!). As a result, I hesitated to spend more money on this novel when it came out - was afraid he had lost his edge.

I am so glad I did buy it. It has a different vibe from previous books, as the main character "speaks" directly to the reader, and we are introduced to a new set of characters. Nevertheless, it's every bit as entertaining and provides an enticing tie-in to familiar characters at the end. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this new series.

Three and a half stars for this new offering by C.G. Story dragged at some points, but the action made up for the author's indulgence in long, philosophical dissertations. The story was gripping and heartbreaking, and you knew it was going to take a bad turn because that's how this author rolls -- creates an impossible situation just to see if his characters can shoot, stab, and/or blow up their way out of it! Impressed with Sam's tailoring! Appreciate Avery, but didn't bond with her character, though she was very useful! Hated the unnecessary use of the Lord's name in vain and F bomb. Even though it was only once for both, it was offensive and showed a lack of imagination, IMO, and in both instances seemed forced. The story has a satisfying ending, and though it obviously left a dangling end to make way for the next in the series, I had decided to pass on the next installment until the last few pages when familiar characters showed up. It is quite the hook, but we'll see.

I don't often spend a lot of money on kindle reads as there are so many that are free or around $1. Unless it's a book by C.G. Cooper! I've read all his Corps Justice books and couldn't get enough. When I saw A Life Worth Taking I couldn't help but rush to buy it and I wasn't disappointed! The reader is drawn into the life of Tom Greer with empathy and a sense of justice for what he does.
Written in his own words Tom fulfills his own mission to wreak vengence for an atrocity we hear of too often in the world.
I couldn't help but inwardly lend my strength to him through his trials and celebrate the outcome.
Then in the final pages once more C. G. Cooper created a fitting yet surprising end.....and I won't spoil it!
If you love action and suspense with a good dose of righteousness you need to read this book!

Having read the entire catalogue of CG Cooper, all of which are great reads, I have to say that this is the best so far. I couldn't put it down. The anticipated twists still catch you off guard, and whilst the pleasure of reading it was sweet I'm already suffering the pain of waiting for the next instalment
