ARKANE Thriller Box-Set 1- 3: Stone of Fire, Crypt of Bone, Ark of Blood (ARKANE Boxset) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 487 ratings

Fighting the forces of evil, one ancient relic at a time.

STONE OF FIRE: An ancient power. A desperate quest. The clock is ticking.

When psychologist and religious expert Dr. Morgan Sierra's sister and niece are kidnapped, she's thrust into a deadly race against time to find twelve ancient stones that could unleash unimaginable power. With only days until Pentecost and the kidnapper's deadline, Morgan must use all her knowledge and resources to track down the artifacts.

She's not alone in the hunt. Jake Timber, an enigmatic agent of ARKANE, a secret British agency investigating the supernatural, has his own orders to retrieve the stones at any cost. Torn between her desperate need to save her family and Jake's mission to secure the stones, lines blur as Morgan and Jake forge an uneasy partnership.

From the holy sites of Israel and the Vatican to the desert of Tunisia and the Sonoran wilderness of Arizona, Morgan and Jake face sinister forces, ancient traps, and a fanatical enemy determined to use the stones' power for their own dark purposes. Danger, betrayal and a growing attraction complicate their quest.

With Pentecost approaching and a storm of apocalyptic proportions brewing, Morgan must confront her past and unearth long-buried secrets to have any hope of saving her family and preventing global catastrophe. Emotions run high and faith is tested as the clock ticks down.

Can Morgan stop the stones from falling into the wrong hands, or will she have to choose between saving her family and saving the world?

CRYPT OF BONE: Two billion people are about to die… and they’re the lucky ones.

When a man jumps to his death from the Western Wall in Israel, the authorities think it’s just another victim of Jerusalem Syndrome.

But when a second victim ritually disembowels himself, it’s the sign of much worse to come. Thanatos — a fanatical group dedicated to the destruction of the world — is on the rise again.

Last time, Morgan and Jake worked together to stop Thanatos from bringing about a dark version of Pentecost. This time, Thanatos is mixing science with sacrilege — combining the Devil’s Bible with mind-control technology to murder a quarter of the human race.

Together, Morgan and Jake will travel from the hallowed halls of Oxford, to the labs of a biotech company with a dark agenda, to a chapel made of human bones. They’ll go anywhere, do anything, to stop Thanatos.

But they have to hurry.

Thanatos is on the rise. Apocalypse is at the gates. And the only way to save a quarter of the world is for Morgan to uncover the secrets of her past… at the cost of her own future. Death awaits in a Crypt of Bone.

ARK OF BLOOD: It is the seat of judgment. The pinnacle of holiness. It is the Ark of the Covenant… and it’s the most dangerous weapon in existence.

A group of fanatics wearing masks of Egypt’s gods slaughter the curator of Cairo’s most famous museum. A cleaner in Washington, DC, discovers a decapitated head on top of a replica of the Ark of the Covenant.

It’s a job too big — and too strange — for the normal authorities, but it’s right up the alley of ARKANE, the British agency tasked with investigating mysteries on the edge of the supernatural.

Jake is in a coma, nearly killed on a previous mission — so Morgan will have to go it alone.

In over her head, in constant danger. Pursued by vicious mercenaries bent on revenge, hunted by assassins willing to do anything for their cause. But Morgan can’t stop, because the Ark of the Covenant is the prize, and it may be more than a simple religious artifact.

It may be the secret to ancient alchemy, and the unlocking of a scientific breakthrough that could save the world… or end it.

This ebook box-set contains 3 full-length ARKANE action-adventure thrillers.

Whether it is a search for the Pentecost Stones, the Devil's Bible or the biblical Ark of the Covenant, these thrillers will rock your world.
They are esoteric, fast paced and suspenseful and will take you all over the world to the strangest of places and most interesting cultures.
I was especially impressed how true to life these incidental characters are described as to dress, food or drink, history, religion and culture. Foreign phrases are all correctly used and fit in with the local dialects.
Descriptions of places are astoundingly correct and suited to the plot so much so it becomes difficult to believe most of these thrillers are not a simply rehash of the real past. The research involved is simply extraordinary.
This trilogy, each an independent, full thriller, is fascinating and nail-biting good. Even the very arkane parts, often bordering on the supernatural, is blended in naturally and with confidence.
Author JF Penn is a rare find and this Arkane Thriller Boxset 1-3 value on so many levels.
    Enjoy.

I enjoyed books 1-3 of the ARKANE series. I'd compare them to Dan Brown's thrillers, but I liked Penn's better! Brown's books can get bogged down with unnecessary descriptions and details that make me want to skip large sections of his books. Penn gives enough details to pull me into a scene without screaming, "Hey, I've been here. Let me tell you ALL about it." The writing became stronger by book 3 and the characters were developed well by book 3 too. I'll be buying more books from this author. I've become a fan.

I began reading this box set and was immediately drawn into the action. I found that J F Penn writes a really great story and includes historical information that I had not been aware existed. (I am still working my way through all her references at the end each book.)

Pentecost introduces us to the main characters, Dr. Morgan Sierra, whose background is like the author's - religion and psychology, Jake Timber, who turns out to be an agent of ARKANE, an organization that seeks items with special powers to protect them from evil, and Ben, a priest who harbors secrets of his own. As they rush to find all 12 of the Apostles' Stones, we are whisked around various countries and treated to wonders. THANATOS, an evil organization, enters into the fray and really steps up the heat.

Prophecy continues with the struggle between ARKANE and THANATOS, and the excitement builds even more as Morgan and Jake rush to stop a holocaust that will kill one in four people. Their struggle against Milan Noble, the head of THANATOS, is embellished in this book.

Exodus could be the end of the world, but will it? Again, Dr. Morgan Sierra is thrust into danger and battles the forces of evil. By now I have read straight through and am wanting more. Get this three-volume set and then get books 4 and 5. You will have no regrets and maybe, just maybe, will sleep easier.

ARCANE is like having an organization comprised of James Bond, Indiana Jones, Robert Langdon and Lara Croft who travel the globe gathering and saving powerful religious objects from the evil plans of religious fanatics and power mongers then turning them over to a religious artifact collecting organization (ARCANE) who, of course, have only the best intentions of collecting and keeping humanity safe from these powerful and potentially deadly items. Forgive the tongue-in-cheek description because from all the notes following each book Ms.Penn Is a serious religious researcher and historian and I do respect that. She is also an extremely talented writer. But these books are intense and bloody and filled with so many evil people it's overwhelming and depressing. We all know great evil has been committed in the name of God throughout history and is still today. But for all the history and effort put into these books, I just come away from them feeling depressed.

Fast paced and action packed, the stories move along quickly. The heroine is a complex character with an interesting background. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys James Rollins books or Cotton Malone series—which I do.

It was a decent read but I found reading the three one after the other a bit too much...should have read something in between each one. Having said that I did enjoy the Trilogy. The main character becomes too good to be true and can achieve no end of pain and suffering despite wounds which would hospitalise me! The idea behind Arkane is plausible - the time scales set by the storylines seem a little far fetched but it is still a fair read...and I may seek out the next book!

Each book in the ARKANE series improves on the one before. Already a JF Penn fan with her generous support of writers, I didn't think these books (out of my genre's) would appeal. But I'm hooked and am looking forward to delving into the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate thrillers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 7, 2015
This box set comprises the first three books in the author's series about a secret organisation which investigates religious and paranormal events around the world and also collects and stores items of cultural or religious significance which if they fell in to the wrong hands could lead to conflicts or could be used as items of power in spells or invocations.

The lead character is Dr Morgan Sierra an academic who had previously served in the Israeli Defence Force, so is very capable of looking after herself. Her nemesis is a very ruthless mercenary called Natasha El-Behery. It is quite refreshing to have women as the main protagonists.

As with all thrillers there are some elements that require a suspension of belief but generally the storylines are within the bounds of (almost) believability.

The three books do lead on from each other, and refer back, so the best way to read them is in order.

There is some quite explicit gory violence in the books and also a lot of destruction of religious and cultural artefacts, in fact if the destruction of museums and churches and their contents continues at the same rate as in these three books, there won't be any left by about episode 15 of the series!

The stories deal with, in order, the search for a set of stones, supposedly taken by each apostle from Christ's tomb; an ancient curse that a quarter of the world must die and the devil's bible; and finally the search for the Ark of the Covenant.

The author's knowledge and research are obvious, and I learned a lot that I hadn't known before. I can thoroughly recommend this box set as an introduction to this really exciting and fast-paced thriller series.

I did receive this item as a review copy from the author, but had previously bought books 1 & 3..

4.0 out of 5 stars A very well done first 3 books of a series, plus with a great cast too!
Reviewed in Canada on August 20, 2016
Cudo's to J. P. Penn for authoring such a great start to this series. These three books read seamlessly as if they were one long story, even though each is it's own complete novel, distinctly different from the others in content. Speaks well as to what to expect in the rest of the series. When you read the qualifications of the author in the post story notes, it's no wonder these stories are so well done. While some story segments have supernatural overtones, or seem outside any realm of possibility, just wait 'til you read the author's notes, with webb addresses included, so you can see for yourself where many major issues were researched. As for the stories themselves, they are well done archaeological style mysteries, plus their background research, plus good guys vs bad guys, plus with religious overtones. But not overly heavy on the religious aspect. That's just more or less an undercurrent to help keep a consistency to the stories. If religion were a major thrust, I would probably not have read beyond part of the first book. If you get my drift. All in all a good cast of exceptional individuals keeping things moving rapidly with Dr. Morgan Sierra being the lead heroine who survives everything from drinking coffee to torture, and pretty much everything in between. I certainly highly recommend this trilogy, and intend now on reading more of this series.
