A ROLLING SCONE is a standalone cozy mystery. Poppy is ready for the third week-end of shooting The Great Witches Baking Show. Poppy won a place on the popular TV series in hopes of finding her biological mother. She was born in Somerset, England but only days old when left in front of the local bakery. Her only chance of finding her family is to discover who knitted the blanket she was found wrapped in while in a crate.

Adventure seems to follow her. Being a water witch she is discovering her family of witches and the powers she possesses. She arrives early to Broomewode farm in hopes of talking with her friend. Last week-end her friend's husband was killed by reacting to a bee sting. It seems she has already found a boyfriend and that makes Poppy a little suspicious of her friend. However, things seem to be looking up as Poppy discovers Eileen, the woman that runs the gift shop knew the woman that went by the name Valarie. They were all about the same age and all hung out together. Now all she needs to do is find Valarie or what happened to her.

The first item they will be baking the first day of filming is a scone. It seems everyone in England has the best scone recipe. However her mind is not on her baking and she has slipped in the numbers. If she gets voted off, she will have no reason to stay on the grounds of Broomewode Hall and loses her chance to get in the great mansion to discover the information on the woman in the painting.

While visiting the gift shop she discovers Eileen very ill and in a matter of minutes Eileen in on the floor whispering a few words to Poppy right before she dies. Another body and Poppy is right in the middle of a murder investigation again!! Now it is up to Poppy to decipher all the clues that she has been left. And she finds herself suspecting all her friends and fellow bakers.

This is the best story so far. A good mystery with an ending that you will not see coming. Plus Poppy's numbers have dropped, for the second challenge Poppy falls to the bottom of the list. She has only one chance to save herself. Gerry is back on the scene as her behind the scenes helper. Sly is also back for his new red ball. And things at the farm get a little more interesting. I definitely recommend this story as well as the series. A good read.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 5/20/2020

    And so is this series!
I am having so much fun visualizing this. Of course I love the show it is based on, but I’m starting to worry about crime rate!
I do like that they are not playing favorites with Poppy, or going too heavily the other way.
I thought this one’s twists were good.

Poppy is trying to get her bearings in the competition, her newly found witchy powers and finding out about her familial background all this things are keeping her eyes out of the prize.

Other things are happening and where will all lead is anyone’s guess but is sure to be entertaining.

There is a select list of paranormal cosy authors I have that I always read when they have new books out. Nancy Warren has been added to my list. Ironically, I can't knit or bake but I love her two Vampire series & this series with new witch Poppy Wilkerson, baker, graphic designer & a really good detective. All these skills come in handy as a contestant on The Great British Baking Contest & her search @ elegant Brommwode Hall where Poppy thinks her unknown birth mother worked. When elderly Eileen invites her over for tea & to look at a possible photo of Valerie, her maybe mum, Poppy is thrilled. But the next day at the gift shop, Eileen succumbs to her heart condition in Poppy's presence. Something isn't right about Eileen's passing. The baking competition heats up & Poppy needs to keep her concentration on her baking. But can she or will this be her last weekend in Brommwode village?

    💕 Positives:
    * The setting is incredibly cozy. Love being transported to the British countryside.

    * Gerry the friendly ghost was nice for comedic relief. He's great at cheering her on as well.

    * The murder was interesting and fun to try to work out. I didn't solve it, but still enjoyed it.

    * Definitely love the baking competition part.

    🚫 Negatives: None.

    ⚡Trigger Warning: None.

🌟 Overall, there is something about this series that keeps drawing me back. The setting is calming and I enjoy the little bits of paranormal thrown into the mix. The ghost is friendly and pretty much there for comedic relief, and the witches are sweet. This story focused more on the mystery of her mother, which I enjoyed reading about. It was a nice change of pace from just murder solving. I'm flying through this wonderful series. Onto book number 4!

Poppy's determination to find information about her mother leads her in new direct in this episode of the Great British Bake off. It also takes her mind off her baking and threatens her future in the show.
Poppy's ability to solve crime definitely seems supernatural. I'll admit I slimmed a little bit I don't think I could have missed that many clues to what happened with Eileen.
The stories do seem a bit drawn out but they are fun to read.

Poppy is back in A Rolling Scone and still learning more of her past. I love watching Poppy grow as a witch and sleuth along side as a baker in the Great Witches Baking Show. She maybe slipping down in the ranks but there is always a distraction of something to solve. Poppy does what she does best with a little help of magic and of course the ever pesky Gerry. I can't wait to see what is in stored next for Poppy to bake and her next mystery to solve. I love this series.

In the third Great Baker's show instalment, Poppy is a contestant on a baking show filmed in the grounds of Broomewode Hall, but it's more than a culinary challenge that brings her there.
She's recently discovered she's a witch, and has great intuition, but a shawl wrapped around her when she was wet on a doorstep leads her to a painting in the hall and an investigation to try and find family.
This is a fun cosy paranormal crime series with Poppy investigating murders in every book and becoming friends with the other bakers and the village residents, whilst being haunted by sea ghost contestant Gerry and being followed by a cute cat called Gateaux.
This is as light and sweet as the cakes she makes, but with every story, various mysteries grow and she is almost close to answers.
    Wonderful stuff.

Strange Goings on continue to plague Poppy as she tries to get her head in the game. This book unravels more of poppy's origins but also raises more questions. Ghosts, seniors and biscuits cause lots of exciting action. Another fabulous read
