Lucky

Two years ago I humiliated myself by declaring my love to an older man who clearly didn’t share my feelings. And that’s fine. One day Zach will come around. Meanwhile, I’ve built a life for myself in northern Montana, pursuing my college degree while working hard toward certification in high-risk alpine search and rescue on the side. And perhaps I’ve kept the danger part a secret from my two dads. After all, what they don’t know won’t hurt them...

Everything’s going exactly as planned until my dads send Zach to check on me just as I’m dealing with an ex who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word no. It’s bad enough Zach still thinks of me as a child; now he also thinks I’m incapable of looking out for myself. I need to get him off my back before he finds out I’m not heading to Wyoming for summer break like everyone thinks. I’m going to Glacier National Park to learn how to rappel from helicopters…

Zach

Two years ago I wanted something I couldn't have, so I threw myself back into my job as an Army Ranger and wound up scarred in more ways than one. When the army dumps my sorry self back into the real world, it’s time to start over. I accept a summer job teaching high-risk search and rescue. On the way there, all I have to do is peek in on little Lucky Reed and make sure he’s okay.

He’s not. Someone has it out for him, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let him get hurt on my watch. My plan is to keep him safe until he heads south for his summer job playing trail guide to tourists. Once he’s gone, I’ll be free to head to Glacier where my biggest challenge will be keeping a handful of alpine search and rescue students safe as they learn how to dangle from helicopters high above the Rocky Mountains.

It’s all fine. Until it’s not. Danger follows us to Glacier, and by the time I finally start seeing Lucky as more than the awkward teenager he used to be, I wonder if it’s too late to convince him that this scarred soldier sees him as anything but little anymore.

Another amazing story from Lucy and Sloane. The way these stories are told are beautiful. This is Lucky and Zach's story . Lucky who has had a crush on Zach since he was a youngster hasn't gone away and finally he gets his chance to see if Zach is willing to love Lucky like he needs to. I love this series and the collaboration between Lucy and Sloane is off the charts.I highly recommend this book and series.

This book reminded me of why I fell in love with these authors. It had everything I love. The writing was perfection. It drew me in, and held me tight all the way until the last page. It was emotional, had angst, some drippings of suspense, hawt curl your toes smexy times, and love surrounded it all. I’m a sucker for a hurt alpha, and a virginal man who knows exactly what he wants.
The banter was perfection, didn’t go overboard, the story was amazing. The side characters kept me entertained, and the HEA swoon. My only and I only have one complaint, was The Who did it answer. I thought that was a quick cop out.
Ugh please give me more of this type of story. I crave this. This is how you start a new year.

I’ve liked this series and I was excited to read Lucky’s story. He was introduced in the first book as a sweet 15 year old, then showed up in the second as a resourceful and snarky 16 year old before his appearance in the third book at age 17, where he met Zach. Now 20 years old in the summer before his senior year of college, Lucky is still as kind, enthusiastic, and fun as he was as a teen. Lucky as a character is great, totally endearing and admirable. Lucky and his story of working to be certified as a helicopter rescue person while also having to work with his first big heartbreaking crush was a 5 star story. Unfortunately for Lucky and for me, the object of his affection was Zach. And Zach was a brooding, insecure, angst-ridden wreck who bailed on Lucky over and over again, not getting over himself until the final chapter.

I know that there’s a sizeable audience for broken/damaged characters who are lost in their pain and put the other MC though a LOT before finding a HEA. I see these types of characters and books raved about, so it’s not that this isn’t a good book (it is), it’s just not a good fit for me as a reader. I like my guys to be kind, emotionally mature, and generally angst free. Zach isn’t a character written for me, and I didn’t enjoy him. Oh well!

Happy because this is a wonderful story. Lucky and Zach finally get their HEA, beyond all the trauma. Sad because it is the end of the series, though there could be more. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the whole series.

A lot of the not-graphic Yaoi (aka m/m) novels by authors I love a lot can sometimes hit & miss the mark when it comes to intimacy or whatever the magic is that connects the erotic with the heartfelt. In ‘Above & Beyond,’ intimacy in a an almost hesitant and non-presumptive way, is its consistent basis. & it’s eroticism is based on familiarity and mutuality much like a YA romance with the intimacy portrayed as so achingly caring and above board that it’s almost sophomorically so. But frankly in this present era of coerced sociopolitical “affinity” and manufactured affirmations, it’s blissfully relieving & a turn on to have somebody love somebody just bc they do.

Lucky met Zach and fell for him like a ton of bricks, but at the time Lucky was a teenager and Zach didn't want him to be hurt. The saying is " sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind" so Zach was and hoped someday he would be forgiven.
This is the fourth book in this series and I certainly hope there are more books to come. There are lots of funny things to laugh at as well as serious things to be considered, but there are no sections of this book that is boring. Before I read this book I took out the first three in order to re-acquaint myself with the characters and I am glad I did that. I can't wait for the next book and hopefully it will come sooner than the almost two year's wait for this one, but it was DEFINITELY worth the wait.

There were AT LEAST 3-4 times during this book when I came so close to a DNF. At 90% I cursed like a sailor at Zach and almost threw my Kindle. WHAT! A! DOUCHE! Lucky! Sweet Lucky! You deserved so much better than Zach and his insane whiplash! He stabbed your heart sooooooo many times my sweet boy! WHY would you keep going back for more? After Lucky walked away at 90% I was done with Zach and the book. I honestly wanted to transport myself into the book just so I could kick Zach's butt and slap some sense into Lucky. I skimmed through to the end and was completely disappointed with the ending. Lucky deserved more. Zach deserved to suffer SO much more before being granted Lucky's forgiveness. This book and the story had so much potential, but the author ruined it by writing Zach the way she did.

Tasked to check on close friends’ son, Rescue Trainer Zach is reluctant because the son Paramedic and college student Lucky has a crush on him. Initially, I was not a fan of this storyline. The MC Zach is intense, growly, hard, and even mean which sets a dark tone to the tale. It’s the “I’m angry because I don’t want to want you” bit. However, understanding, compassion, and love prevail, of course. My one critique is the big reveal, seemed over-the-top dramatic and not keeping with Zach’s personality, which made it superficial or inauthentic. All in all, an interesting read. Rating: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kennedy and Lennox together are absolutely formidable. This tale of Zach and Lucky is written with the care the two characters deserve. Loved it, and it breaks my heart that I’ve finished the series. I sincerely hope that the authors find an opportunity to bring their talents together again whether it’s to flesh out the Twist of Fate series or to pursue another series.

I rated the other 3 books in this series 4 stars for good storyline and writing and lovely characters. This book is the weakest of the set because I didn't fall in love with either character and - - - - - (I don't know if this counts as a spoiler) - - - - - although I felt Lucky's pain I thought the reasons Zach kept pushing him away were inconsistent and sometimes didn't really make any sense. But that's just me.

Been waiting on this one from young Lucky. Thank goodness it got the ending i wanted!

Love this series so much. It could be read as standalone but the other books in the series are equally as good!

Lucky is keeping secrets from his Dad's. One is his career path. He doesn't want to give up his dreams but he doesn't want to disappoint his parents. He knows they'd worry and he would give it up to save them that. Two, theres his love life. He's not told them about a guy at school he's having problems with. He feels all the pressure of this but he's certain he needs to do the advanced SAR course. So once again he's not going home for the summer he's going to go after his dream before he has to give it up.

Zach is suffering in silence. After coming back after his deployment he's a broken man. His friend offers him a job as a trainer at his advanced SAR camp. Zach takes it knowing its only for a few weeks then he'll find somewhere else to go. Alone.

When Lucky see's his instructor hope ignites. Zach is his crush from childhood.
Maybe he can prove to Zach that he's good enough for him.

When Zach see's Lucky his heart sinks. He knows he's about to hurt Lucky once again. But the temptation is there like a lit fire under his skin.

Both come to an arrangment that might just break them both.

I loved this story. Soooo much hope runs through it. Theres a lot of push and pull on Zach's part which sometimes made you want to shake him! Poor Lucky. Such a good kind soul he was so patient going for what he wanted. He often ended up hurting himself but it was so admirable the way he fought for both of them. I did think that Zach got off lightly with the grovelling but i got his reasoning throughout. My heart broke for them both really but Zach had a lot going on and to him his reasoning was sound. Thankfully he pulled his head out in the end and gave us all the HEA we wanted.

Great to see the rest of the family too. I love catching up with them all.

Some great love scenes but my fave parts were the heart to hearts the guys had. Loved when they opened their hearts to each other it was really emotional.

Great plot and story that had me turning those pages all day till it was done. Hoping theres more to come?! Ex bully Cal maybe? Please?

Highly recommend. These two authors are just fantastic, you can't go wrong with either of their books.
