This is a story about a girl named Leigh. She has 2 very good friends, a sister in another state, and a cat,who takes every chance it gets to show Leigh who is the boss ! Leigh loves to read, and is currently reading a series about a vampire who she thinks of as her book boyfriend..when he is killed off in the book, she is so upset that she thinks she can write a book too,and toys with the idea of revenging who killed her book boyfriend...as she tries to begin, she realizes that she needs a desk to do her writing at. She answers an add on Craig's list that someone was giving one away for free. When she arrives at the home of the person who has the desk, she sees the desk on the front porch with a sign, that says to take the desk...wanting to thank the owner, she knocks on the door a few times, but then thinks that no one is home, so she drags the small old heavy desk to her car....as she is putting it in her trunk, she turns to look at the house and sees an older woman peeking out the window and strangely close the curtains when Leigh sees her...then is on her way home. She begins to write her story, she falls asleep when she is suddenly awakened by her unsociable cat biting her legs...not finishing the story,Leigh goes to bed. The next morning she gets a call from one of her friends excitedly telling her to turn on her tv,and as she is watching the special report, she begins to think that it sounds familiar,..and her friend tells her that the 2 people on tv are the friend s family..shockingly she remembers that those are the same names she used in her story..she goes back to read what she wrote last night..and what she wrote is exactly what happened to the 2people on tv !!! It's as if she has a special power to write things and then it happens...so she experiments with other stories with her friends names and it all comes true, but not always in a good way. She then finds out that the desk came from a witch and it is cursed..and her cat is part of it,becoming more friendly to her...Leigh starts to experiment with her and her friends, creating situations that some times go array...then one day when Leigh comes home, she is surprised to see that her cat comes walking out of a cloud in her living room with a small scroll in her mouth...she drops it in front of Leigh with a very loud meoooow. .....Leigh has just been summoned by the witches counsel for practicing witchcraft and for not being in the witches union... this is a very cute story and the first book in the series..I can't wait to start reading the next book.

ACCIDENTAL LEIGH is a quick read that you can finish in just a few hours. It's somewhat of an introduction of books to follow in this series I believe, because it left off with a bit of a cliff hanger. I mean, it just stopped. I was hoping for another chapter to find out what happens, but I guess that will be discussed in Book 2 of this series. First of all, if adult content and not-so-nice language bothers you, you may not want to start reading this book. But if you're okay with all of that, this book will have you chuckling and maybe even giggling like a school girl! The humor was great!

After getting upset that her favorite author killed off Leigh's "book boyfriend", she decides she wants to write a romance novel herself and buys an antique writing desk from an old lady. Then, as she writes, she discovers that the events in her book actually happen to friends and family. Can't wait to see where all of this goes!

Not for me. I feel like I can't really give it a fair review because while I didn't like it, I'm sure there are readers out there who will. It's not a "bad" book, it's just not for me. Thus, I rated it as "okay". It is my own fault really. It said in the blurb that the main character is a writer. It mentions she writes "steamy erotic scenes" and tries to prevent a "wild erotic encounter". I guess I just thought since the character is a writer, she'd be writing about those in the books within this book and not really full-blown going into them. I just loved the cute cover, the clever title, and the overall premise of the story, so I ignored the whole "erotica" thing and went into it with high hopes. I was disappointed and completely turned off within the first few lines. I just don't like f-bombs that are tossed carelessly in every sentence. It's just not my thing. I always think that vulgar language is bad writing unless it has a purpose, which is to help define a character's personality. F-bombs just sprinkled in everywhere as sentence enhancers? Huge turn off for me. It made me instantly dislike the main character, who was an elementary school teacher by the way. I sure hope real life elementary school teachers don't talk this way! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think that every teacher who works with young children is well-behaved all the time. We're all human after all. I just prefer to read a character that works with children who censors herself-- "oh poo" is much funnier to me when the character wants to say something else but is just used to watching her potty mouth around kids. To me that's just more realistic when you work with kids on a daily basis. My two cents. That said, I was never able to get past the things that I didn't like about this book... one of which was the main character. It is very difficult to read a book about someone you instantly dislike. I tried, but it truly just isn't my thing. For me, too much vulgar language and it's more erotica that romance. It really took away from the possibilities of the good story concept. I struggled to finish it. Like I said, it's just not for me. I'm sure there is an audience for this kind of book, I'm just not it. That's not the writers fault at all. As a writer, you can't please everyone and an important goal is to know your audience. I believe Melanie James knows what she wants to write and what demographic she's writing to. It's not her fault that I, as a reader, didn't fit that demographic. There's some good humorous writing in here, which was a plus. I wish I'd liked it as much as I hoped I would.

This is my first book I have read by this author and I have to say I'm impressed. It is a quick read but has all the elements to keep you hooked and by the end you are left wanting more. I loved the voice of Leigh she has you laughing along with her and cringing when she realizes the mistakes she has made. You really wish you had her powers and probably think you could do better, but words are powerful as Leigh finds out. Throw in a few crazy friends, a magic desk, a cat called Luna and tada you have one hell of an entertaining story. Oh yes we mustn't forget about Hunter, poor Hunter, if he can stick around after their humours or should I say painful date I will love him even more. I'm looking forward to the next book, I hope we continue to see a budding romance between Leigh and Hunter. I also want to know who the hell Witches Local 1313 are?

OMG - I seriously loved this book and laughed my way through it!

Leigh Epstein is a "single, overworked and under-fucked elementary school teacher" who decides to write a book after her favorite book boyfriend is killed. She buys a desk and begins to write her story but strange things begin to happen.

As Leigh realizes the strange occurrences are related to her story she begins to alter her story to help her friends out but things are not going as she planned. She strives to figure out how to straighten things out before it's too late. Plus she really does not want things to go wrong with the new man in her life, Hunter.

I seriously laughed through so much of this book and got some strange looks from the people around me on the airplane. I loved how so much went wrong and how imaginative Leigh got in trying to make people happy.

I can't wait to read what happens in the next story!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great chick-lit but too short and ends too abruptly.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 7, 2014
Really enjoyed this book. It is witty and humorous and is written in such a way that all women can relate to the main character Leigh, and I especially love the way Melanie James brought to life the relationship between Leigh and her cat Luna.
It is hard to make me laugh out loud but without leaving spoilers, the mini-golf date had me properly laughing. This book is chick-lit at it's best - all the characters are perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about them.

The reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because of the massively abrupt ending. It is more like a short story than a book. It left me feeling like I wanted to shout "WTF?" and although I want more, if the sequels are just as short and irritatingly abrupt then I would rather save my sanity and leave them alone. There i a difference between leaving you wanting more and leaving you feeling with an unsatisfied, anti-climax feeling. Please Melanie James, make these stories a proper, full novel!

This is a book that I enjoyed in spite of myself. Leigh, accidentally finds out that she has witchy powers. She discovers an ability to use magic through writing. Unfortunately, her powers seem to work like the Monkey's Paw. Nothing works as expected. Some of this book is hilarious, some will make you groan and some will raise your eyebrows. I am happy that I read it.
