I was pleasantly surprised with this book. The idea of the book is a very original one and told in a very clear and well thought out way.
The illustrations do a good job of supporting and enhancing the story. It really is an easy book for parents to read and for children to enjoy and understand. Joey has a hard time sleeping (which most kids can relate too) and he is a little chatter-box asking his mom to sleep next to him until he dozes off... the mom comes up with a very clever idea and the story takes on a magical twist, Joey has adventures in 'dreamland' and meets two pirates and a chatter-box of a parrot who wont let Joey sleep. The author gives a great and subtle lesson with this. I recommend this book to parents of children ages 7 and under, great little book.

If you’ve ever read book after book to a child who can’t sleep then add this title to your list. The story is a sweet one that will resonate with parents and their young children. The story, about Joey’s difficulty getting to sleep at night, has a solution that engages children’s imaginations and is very sympathetic to the challenges tired parent experience. The illustrations are colorful, age appropriate and interwoven into the book in a way that allows younger children to follow along. The author’s pacing in the story and the book’s design flow nicely. This a story your child will ask for, especially on sleepless nights.

I read "The Adventures of Joey Who Would Not Sleep" with my nephew who has trouble settling down to sleep at night. He enjoyed the story and gave it bonus points for including pirates, which are an interest of his right now. He also asked about magic dust after we finished reading and other adventures Joey might have so it did spark his imagination. Overall this book offers a fun story that both kids and parents can relate to as well as charming illustrations.

Any story that will convince my little ones to settle off to sleep quickly has got to be good! The start of the story is a situation most parents will understand and appreciate; it's past bedtime, you're tired and the little rascals are suddenly wide awake. If only there really was some magic dust to transport talkative children to Alphabet Island. This part of the adventure contains just the right amount of silliness to make my little ones giggle out loud. They liked the funny pirate names and their favourite character was the parrot.

Joey won't go to sleep by himself until one day his mother brings him a present. With this gift, Joey has the ability to visit other lands during the night. He visits some pirates, SleepHead and AwakeHead, who need his help. After a long day of adventures, Joey finally wants to rest. But the pirates' squabbling keeps him awake. Joey develops a new appreciation for letting others sleep. For any parent who has a child keeping them up at night, I recommend this book.

Very well presented, colourful and the pics are great, as is the originality of the story. I read this to children I was babysitting for, a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old. The 5 year-old loved it (had to read it twice) the other seemed disinterested until I heard him say to his mother on her, "Mum, can you download The Adventures of Joey to the kindle?" and she did. Seems he was interested after all!
