All the Lies We Tell (Quarry Book 1) Kindle Edition
This sexy romantic drama from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Megan Hart explores the tangled lives—and loves—of childhood friends.
Everyone knew Alicia Harrison’s marriage to Ilya Stern wouldn’t last. They’d grown up on a remote stretch of Quarry Street, where there were two houses, two sets of siblings, and eventually, a tangled mess of betrayal, longing, and loss. Tragedy catapulted Allie and Ilya together, but divorce—even as neighbors—has been relatively uncomplicated.
Then Ilya’s brother, Nikolai, comes home for their grandmother’s last days. He’s the guy who teased and fought with Allie, infuriated her, then fled town without a good-bye. Now Niko makes her feel something else entirely—a rush of connection and pure desire that she’s been trying to quench since one secret kiss years ago. Niko’s not sticking around. She’s not going to leave. And after all that’s happened between their families, this can’t be anything more than brief pleasure and a bad idea.
But the lies we tell ourselves can’t compete with the truths our hearts refuse to let go…

Editorial Reviews
Review
“Hart explores tragedy, guilt, love, and longing with a masterful balance of emotional intensity and sexual tension using flashback vignettes to great effect, then hints at an explosive secret to be revealed in a sequel.” —Kirkus Reviews
“Guilt and forgiveness are the powerful muses that fuel Hart's newest endeavor. Poignant, heartfelt, and raw with realism, Hart writes in the past and the present to take readers on a journey that examines the intricacies of human nature and the choices we make that shape us. Rich in detail with complex characters and Hart's familiar bold and honest dialogue, All the Lies We Tell offers a chance at redemption and forgiveness to two families who are torn apart and then rebuilt by tragedy.” —RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAll The Lies We Tell by Megan Hart was a book I downloaded as my Kindle First for April selection. I was excited to see her book as one of the choices, since I've read several of her previous books and really liked them.
This book showcases Megan Hart's deft storytelling as she weaves present and past together in a way that strengthens the characters and where they are now. The theme of the book is all the lies we tell ourselves. From Alicia, to Ilya, to Galina, to Nikolai, to Theresa, to Dina they are all guilty at some point of lies they told themselves.
My favorite line in the book was: "Time had brought him back to her in a way that she guessed neither of them could've imagined." I love the way the author can wrap me up in a story that feels so real, and make me wish I had a Russian grandmother in my neighborhood! I'm looking forward to the sequel as well. There is something about Theresa.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAlicia Harrison grew up in the shadow of her sister. Jennilyn was everything that she wasn’t. Beautiful, outgoing and desired by Ilya Stern.
Ilya and Nikolai Stern were as wild as they were gorgeous. And they were also the reason that the sisters existed so very far apart.
Now many years and an unbearable tragedy later, she’s still buried under the weight of her guilt and her desire for a man that she can never have.
Nikolai Stern always dreamed of a life far away from Quarry Street. The minute he could escape, he was gone. From Antarctica to Israel, he ran to forget her face and the fact that she was now his brother’s wife.
But fate is as harsh as the Pennsylvania winter and sometimes going back is like never leaving at all.
All the Lies We Tell is something totally different from Megan Hart. It’s more than just the story of two people – it’s the story of how tragedy can define the lives of so many people.
The cast of characters are as delicately intertwined as a spider’s web. They are both fragile and explosive in ways that will break your heart and heat your blood. It’s not what you would expect but it’s more than enough to keep you thoroughly obsessed until the very end.

This book had the potential to be fantastic, but it gets so lost in some of the drama and to be honest, I'm kind of stymied as to exactly what genre this falls into. There appears to be a mystery surrounding Jenni, but that doesn't get fully realized. I know there is another book so perhaps that plays out there, and that may make sense if that book is about Ilya given their past relationship.
Interestingly enough, both Niko and Alicia had issues communicating. She constantly told him he was leaving instead of flat out asking him what his plans were and he didn't want to own up to the fact that he and she were in a relationship and hiding it was not helping her understand that he wanted to stay there. There was a lot of misunderstandings between the two, but then again, if they had resolved it quickly, the book would have been a lot shorter. Then there is Theresa. I'm still not 100% sure of what the deal is with her and her father who comes across as creepy, but know that her story is not ended and that Ilya is definitely going to be involved. Ilya was an ass. Until the end where he finally steps up and gives Niko really sound advice. A very self-involved guy who takes advantage of everyone around him...well, except his mother. And his mother I think is facing some issues herself, that in her own way, she is trying to share with her sons. That family dynamic is a nightmare.
It definitely had the makings of being uncomfortable, with Alicia having been involved with both brothers, but as I said, the family dynamics was a mess and when only two families lived on a street most of their life, things can tend to get complicated. And I think those complications are going to intensify with the next book. Honestly, with Niko gone most of Alicia and Ilya's marriage, I didn't have as much of an issue with Nike and Alicia, especially given their past and just how things evolved. I think Alicia made the mistake, but Niko kind of abandoned her, so I can see how she ended up where she did.
The ending was different, but in a good way. I liked the idea that she is finally doing something for herself, but that their relationship won't end as it did the last time. I'll probably read the next book, but not immediately. I suspect some more secrets are going to come out, including what really happened to Jenni.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat I first thought was a love triangle between 2 brothers and the girl across the street turned into a different type of love triangle. I was a little discouraged by the push a pull with the lovers in this story but OMG did Megan Hart makeup for that once the spark was lit!
I am already download the sequel since I breezed through "All the Lies We Tell" in a day in a half.. I'm eager to learn how the rest of the story closes out.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first book in the series and it was a good read. Alicia, Ilya and Nico grew up together. After tragedy strikes, Nico leaves town and Alicia and Ilya end up married. After ten years, Alicia and Ilya have divorced and Nico is back in town. Nico and Alicia had always felt a draw to one another, but when Nico left town unexpectedly, Alicia moved on without him. Now, this group of friends is trying to overcome their past and move forward. There is a wave of mystery about the tragedy that occurred. We don't get all of the answers in this book, so I'm hoping that the mystery clears up in the second book.
There is a lot of jumping from the present to the past in this book to get the backstory. I found it to be a little confusing at times, but totally necessary for the story. It was a good read and I look forward to the second book.
