    I loved this series. But I feel bereft with the epilogue at the end. Hence the 4/5 stars. Not going to spoil for everyone, but I feel my HEA wasn't totally fulfilled. Love the twists and turns, kept me swaying on who I wanted Christie to be with. I'm a full on Susan Ward fan, I feel you know just how to reel me in and really make me want to keep turning the pages. This story makes you feel the pain and ask why so many times. Now I'm reading about her father in the other series and yes I think I love him the most. So much sadness, so much pain, so much heartache, deceit and being true to yourself. Love is such a hard thing to hold on to with so much baggage to carry.

    When I think of rockstar Romance, I imagine a light fluffy read with a sexy musician. This series is soooooooo much more than I could have imagined. This series will leave you breathless and an emotional wreck. I was completely captivated and in love with these characters and the story. Susan Ward has a writing style that pulls you in and doesn't let you go until long after you've finished the books. I thought about Alan and Chrissie for weeks after finishing. These books wrecked me in the best possible way and I loved all the spin off series that followed. Probably one of my favorite series I've ever read.

    The story felt over long but we'll written . I felt like Chrissie cried a lot especially in the beginning with Alan and she never knew her mind. She claim to love Alan but wasn't willing to do anything to stay with him but Neil she did. I like Neil he didn't have to be gay he could of been bi-sexual. Neil seemed to feel sexually charged with Chrissie

    Gripping writing however there were a few clunky sentences. I stayed up too late on two nights because I seriously had to know how everything turned out, but I really didn't like the main female character. She did do a lot of growing up over the course of the four part series, so that was good, but overall, she seemed to rely too heavily on the MC to take care of her.

    Spoiler Alert:

    Brutally honest, I thought the MC was the happiest and most well-adjusted when she was with Neil, and I was absolutely DEVASTATED when their marriage had to end. I was extremely disappointed in Neil's decisions. (Come to think of it, I was disappointed with Chrissie's lapses in judgment regarding fidelity as well. Not a pattern card of how to have a healthy mutually loving relationship.) While I like that Alan never lost his love for Chrissie, I think he could have done a way better job of showing that love besides sending a dozen roses every so often.

    My criticisms have very little to do with the quality of writing. Excellent writing, excellent storytelling and plot development. It's really more that I couldn't relate to the main characters and I kept being disappointed in their human foibles. Maybe it makes the story more realistic but if you notice my tag name...I read to escape problems! LOL

    This is the first time I’ve read anything by Susan Ward and I’m so glad that I came across a lead to her box set of The Girl. I read the synopsis and decided to give it a go…well, I’d have been daft not to, have you seen the cover? Also four complete novels for such a bargain price and they weren’t just a couple of hundred pages, these books are what I call 'novels' and not just a hand full of chapters masquerading as a novel which you so often find these days, especially with eBooks.

    I started reading and at first I was a little concerned that I may have chosen a novel that was too immature for my taste. Although the characters were really well developed, Chrissie Parker and her best friend Rene were immature school girls who were both fascinating and entertaining and by the time I got to the end of the first chapter I was hooked.

    Chrissie, a music student/cello player, is the daughter of a young at heart father who is a Rock legend and his deceased wife who was a Julliard virtuoso.

    Neil Stanton is the first of Chrissie’s love/relationship interests to put in an appearance, although somewhat briefly in the beginning. From their first meeting in a club, I suspected his well-kept secret. However, it didn’t detract from the storyline as throughout all four books you were kept hanging and waiting for the inevitable fall out to happen with no indication of where or when it would occur.

    On the same evening that Chrissie meets Neil, a wannabe musician she also meets Alan Manzone, Rock God extraordinaire who is already at the top of his game and world famous. He is a complex and beautiful character full of angst and intrigue and you just know he’s not going to be an easy read, he has undercurrents surging in many different directions and ‘relationship inexperienced’ Chrissie keeps misreading him, to the point where I really wanted to throw a bucket of water over her and scream wake-up girl! But that’s the beauty of Chrissie, it’s hidden to her and she continually doubts herself. She is totally naïve in almost all walks of life and is the exact opposite of Alan who is well travelled, well-bred, educated and sophisticated.

    Throughout the books we learn more about her background and understand more about why she is the way she is.

    Chrissie’s father, Jackson Parker, features throughout and he is the most wonderful and enigmatic character. I think I was as gob smacked as Chrissie was when we learn that he has more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye! I'm so looking forward to reading his story in the Always Box Set: A Second Chance Romance 4-Book Complete Series (Parker Saga 2).

    I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved these books, well written, great characters, lots of angst and anguish and so totally un-put-downable. I desperately wanted to know how the story would end but at the same time I really didn’t want to get to the end. It was such a relief when I realised that I could read more about the Parker’s in the Always Box Set: A Second Chance Romance 4-Book Complete Series (Parker Saga 2) and more importantly, find out more about Alan Manzone in his story Broken Crown (Sand & Fog Series Book 1) in the Sand and Fog series.

    One of my all-time favourite reads! Please keep writing these wonderful characters Ms Ward…if I could give you more than five stars, I would.

    I’m so sad to have finished this story. The beautiful, complex, often frustrating characters and their equally complicated relationships have moved me so deeply. Reading this, I wasn’t sure how I wanted the story to end but I knew I would miss them when it was over. Such a rollercoaster of emotions. I’m going to need some time to mourn this book before I can pick up my next one. Or perhaps I’ll just read Book 1 again straight away - to reminisce and enjoy how far they evolved from their beginnings. 5 stars
