Regardless of the sub-genre, all of her novels have the same underlying premise: "It's never too late to live happily ever after. Her novels have been published in half a dozen languages, and her books are available in audio, ebook, and print.

This an emotional, bitter and sweet story with really good main characters.
Jake's mother and Maddie's "evil" stepmother, Constance Quinn add a lot to the story as well. I liked the twist that develops about Maddie's stepmother and it made me wonder if she was on the up and up or not. That becomes clear later on in the story. There is also the hook of Constance getting her own story in Book 2 "Second Chance Bride''.
I enjoy this quick story and enjoyed the H.E.A. and Epilogue even more.
I just want to add that the eBook cover was one I liked and it got my attention right away. It also fits well because it has meaning in the story.

In April Fool Bride, Maddie's life experiences set her on a path of self destruction, which finally receives a wakeup call when reality comes knocking in the form of a DUI. Jake's life skitters sideways when his interest in Maddie is thwarted by her vindictive stepmother. He loses all hope of the future he's worked so hard for and finds his life forever changed, set on a trajectory that takes him to war and a completely different lifestyle afterward. This is a story with several underlying themes. For those who believe their life paths have purpose and all cause and effect serves that purpose, they'll find a story supporting the belief. For others who believe in redemption and the all-healing power of love, they'll find the story also holds true to that theme. And of course, for those who believe in romance, this is a delicious love story. For me, being a believer in all three themes, when I reached the conclusion of the story, it left me not only with a smile, but with a nod to the universe and the happy feeling that most everything in life goes as it should. Maybe not as planned, but as it should. Kudos Ms. Reeves, on a well penned novella, with a lot of heart.

    Pros:
    A quick, cute read.

The idea of a marriage of convenience in a modern setting was new and interesting and the author did a good job of making the need for it believable.

    Cons:
Story felt under-developed. It read like a draft of a good novel rather than a finished story.

Head hopping galore! I do not have a problem with stories than change POV, in fact, I tend to prefer them. This book had the POV changing in mid-conversation, leaving me struggling to figure out where I was half the time.

As other reviewers have noted, the author is a fan of telling, not showing, which makes it very difficult to engage with the story and invest in the characters.

I will be deleting this book.

A charming novella with romance, passion, humor. Maddie needs a husband by April to be able to control her inheritance. The only man she can trusts to help her without taking advantage of the situation is Jake who was her friend when they were both teenagers. His mother used to work for Maddie’s family until the night her stepmother caught Maddie in Jake’s bed and threw him and his mother out. Now Jake is a successful businessman and doesn’t need the money or the lucrative deal Maddie is offering for him to marry her on paper for a year. Yet he accepts because...

In Romance we’re used, especially in historical, to marriage of convenience at the hero’s request. April Fool Bride is a contemporary story of marriage of convenience at the heroine’s request, and that was enough to intrigue me.

We meet Maddie when she comes to offer Jake an arrangement for one year, with a substantial salary into the bargain. She needs to be married before her 25th birthday some days later to touch her inheritance, but we only know why late in the story because she avoid Jake’s questions. I liked her character, she was the typical example of the rich and out of control daughter of… , and an arrest when she was driving drunk changed her, even if the tabloids still shows her under the worst light. She created an armor under which she hides a big sensitivity she doesn’t show anyone, less of all to Jake.

Jake is a successful businessman and with Maddie they’ve known each other since childhood as Jake’s mother used to work for Maddie’s stepmother. A big misunderstanding made Jake angry at Maddie for the way her stepmother chased him, and if we can reproach to the hero his quite exaggerated reaction, we mustn’t forget he was very young too. I didn’t really like that he first accept the arrangement to get revenge from the heroine, and I liked that he realizes very quickly that Maddie isn’t who the tabloids depict anymore.

So yes as the story is short their adolescent desire is still there, even stronger, and they soon yield to it. But in spite of that we can see the evolution of their feelings and thoughts and the way they discover each other when the story takes place on few days. In fact I only thought it was too bad the ending seems a bit rushed because the story was great until then. Same thing with the relation between Maddie and her stepmother which is solved too fast as if the author had a format to respect.

To conclude a cute story I really liked in spite of this rushed ending, and the glimpse of the second volume made me want to read it (if it’s ever published as it seems to be on hold).
