At a Stranger's Mercy (Badge and Bullets Book 1) Kindle Edition
Death and sorrow were part of Max Donohue’s job description, leaving the detective hardened after years on the job. On his latest case, he’s the one stuck protecting the only witness in a sadistic homicide.
One death becomes two… then three. And soon Max and Bradley find themselves playing a deadly game of cat and mouse. Can Max save Bradley from the clutches of a serial killer? Or will the killer finish what he started?
At a Stranger’s Mercy is the first installment of a continuing series featuring the same two characters. It’s a suspenseful murder mystery that depicts detailed crimes, strong language, and adult situations. While this series will include a romance, it’s a slow burn that develops throughout the series.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2019This was a fantastic read an edge of your seat thrill ride!
The focus was on the investigation and Bradley getting through a horrific time while Max trys to navigate a serial killer. There's a slow burning romance that starts to brew between Max and Bradley but when, things get complicated it's put on hold. Which is fine because I know there's more to come with these two.
Author Brittany Cournoyer did a fantastic job writing something so different from her normal style and I loved it!
Get ready because the plot twist in this book will absolutely blow you away!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2019I very much liked the story. It kept my. Interest all the way through. My biggest complaint was all the grammar .mistakes . This story needed a professional proof reader, grammatical errors were made on just about every page, very annoying.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2019This book was great. Bradley was sweet and sadly at the wrong place at the wrong time. Max was a bit of a jerk but he seems to have his reasons but it seems we don't find out in this book. Looking forward to finding out what's next for these too.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2019I really enjoyed the story here. Since it is set up as a series I can see why we got zero back story for either character, but it did leave me floundering a little. The editor did not do a very good job at all. There were a ton of grammatical errors, and some places where an entire word or phrase was omitted in a sentence. I am going to check out book 2 in hopes that there will be some improvement.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2019I really enjoy mysteries, and the pace of this one, coupled with the slow burn between the two MCs, make this a book I will return to again & again!! I hope the author has more in store soon...
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2019Max and Bradley weren’t quite what I was expecting when I started the book.
Bradley was sweet, a bit set in his ways and really only comfortable with his numbers.
Max was just as set in his ways, but was much more abrasive.
This was a nicely done who-done-it. It ended on a hopeful note. Really want to see these guys futures.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2020I love mysteries, and I know they’re hard to write, so I’m willing to cut authors a fair amount of slack.
But this story? Both of the characters make completely ridiculous choices, pretty much from start to finish. Neither main character is likable. Very little about the police, forensics, or investigation is convincing. The “plan” to catch the killer is amazingly poorly thought out, and completely unbelievable.
And the mm aspects? There is absolutely zero chemistry. The one lackluster moment where we are supposed to see chemistry simmering in the background left me cringing.
Why did I read through to the end? I kept stubbornly hoping it’d get better. Sadly, it kept stubbornly getting worse.

It gripped you from the very first page and didn't let up till the end an end you will not see coming. Excellent first book to this new series can't wait for more I'm hooked. A well deserved rating highly recommend this on the edge of your seat read

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, just wow.
I have read all the author's books and I like them very much.
With "At a strangers mercy" she goes completely new ways, and for me it is the best book she has written so far. I had the feeling that this book is full of her heart and soul.
.
As a small warning in advance, the book contains detailed descriptions of the murder victims and they are very badly dismembered.
Definitely not a book for weak nerves and stomachs, but worth every second you need for
.
Max is a homicide detective and a pretty harsh guy, but his soft side keeps flashing. Bradley is the victim of a crazy mass murderer and survives. The two work together to capture this murderer.
.
The characters are incredibly well written, even to side charters you can easily get a relationship. The story begins with a bang, but then develops slowly, but never boring.
.
Also, the relationship between Max and Bradley builds up very slowly, it is certainly not love at first sight, but a very complex relationship.
.
I'm really looking forward to the next parts of the show and how she's developing the relationship between Max and Bradley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great suspense.
Wow, just wow. The suspense near killed me. My heart was lodged in my throat the entire book! What a great murder mystery. Bradley was in the wrong place at the wrong time and witnessed something he shouldn't have. Bring in homicide detective Max to the rescue. Max and Bradley barely tolerated each other. This is not a typical romance story. It finished with a will they, won't they scenario. I absolutely can't wait for the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice start to the series
This was a nice book and the detective story was quite captivating.
I really liked Max. He was gruff and tough, but so very focused. He is definitely not a nice guy and make not excuses for it. I can't wait to read more on his back story.
I had more trouble connecting to Bradley. The circumstances of the book did that he didn't get the chance to really show us who he is, so I am looking forward to that in the next book.
Overall a great book, I definitely didn't see the killer coming.
Looking forward to the next book
