- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAthalie (the first book in the Sacrificial Chronicles series) by Jordan Elizabeth was a really good read! The cover of this novel is what first drew my interest to this novel. It's just so pretty and unique, I've never seen a book cover quite like this one before. I wasn't sure what to expect based off the synopsis, but I wasn't disappointed! The story took a few chapters to really catch my interest, but once it did I didn't want to put it down. The characters and places were so interesting, this was a different story unlike any I've read. I enjoyed the imagery, I could envision every place Athalie and Kalil visited almost perfectly. I can't want to read the next installment in this series!

I normally like this author's books/stories. However, this story is lacking something but I'm not sure what, thus 4 stars. It is about a strange world in which girls that are between thirteen and eighteen are considered ready for the ultimate sacrifice. Each year one girl is chosen out of all the girls available. Usually, if an older sister is already in service to the priests, the younger sisters are not in the running. Surely, the Gods won't take all daughters away from a family. Since Athalie's older sister is in service, she feels she is safe but why have they put her in the circle of girls to be chosen? This is a Priest based society. The high priest supposedly has direct contact with the Gods and his voice is their voice. So, when Athalie, just seventeen is chosen, she is sure it is a mistake. She has a fiance, and is going to be married. What happens next is the crux of the story. This seems more like a novel about a cult and I hate that mindset which is probably why I had a hard time reading this book. Then there is the whole abuse going on in the name of the Gods. I doubt I would read the next book but others may find this book fascinating.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2021Format: KindleJordan Elizabeth is a newer author to me and I have enjoyed her writing style. Athalie is a YA fantasy with adventure, drama, challenges, and the fate of the world. Her plotline is energetic, lively, and keeps you on your toes. The characters are fully developed and engage you in the story. Athalie is a village girl who has been chosen to be the yearly sacrifice. (Now with that being said, doesn't this story capture your attention?) The gods have decided that the emperor needs to be stopped. There has been a weapon in the emperor’s arsenal. The problem is that it will destroy their world. The gods resurrected Athalie to search for talismans to help with the emperor's weapon. One little problem, if Athalie dies while on this quest she will not be resurrected again. I highly recommend this book and I will warn you that you may read it in one sitting so make sure you have everything you need. I cannot wait to see what is coming up for Jordan Elizabeth.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2021Format: KindleAthalie is a story of a young maiden who turns a reluctant sacrificial Goddess for the greater good of her empire, only to find out in her after-life that the whole planet is in danger. The high priest plans to unleash a deadly weapon to wipe out the enemy of the empire, but what he does not know is that it is a weapon of mass destruction. Pleading with the Gods, Athalie comes back as a spirit to persuade the high priest and others to stop from unleashing the weapon, but is it too late or can she carry this humungous burden successfully on her shoulders?
This dystopian fantasy is really easy to read, it took me less than 2 hours to finish the book. I really liked the way all the characters and their costumes were described. The sacrificial scenes and the elaborate effort which is taken to prepare the sacrifice are especially were described in great detail.
Overall, a very breezy and a light read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2021Format: KindleAthalie (Sacrificial Chronicles Book 1) by Jordan Elizabeth. It’s all about Athalie and the gods. This story is full of adventure and unexpected revelation.
Athalie meant to be the yearly sacrifice just wants to live but knowing she will benefit her emperor accepts her fate. Unknowing to her empire the emperor wants to use a deadly weapon that can unknowingly destroy the planet once activated.
The book is full of twists and turn. You never know what will happen next. It leaves you on the edge of your seat with each new chapter. I can’t wait for what this series may have in store.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2021Format: KindleFive stars. This is one of those books I could give them all too. I am so in love. This is my first book from this author and I could not be more impatient for the next book(s) in this series! Athalie has a little bit of everything for everyone in it. I would highly recommend it, whether you like YA novels or not this should be on your TBR list!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021Format: KindleAthalie by Jordan Elizabeth a fantastic four-star read. This is number one in the Sacrificial Chronicles series and I want more, I so nearly gave this five-stars, as in places it needed it, but then in others it did not deserve it. The drama and action will keep you on the edge of your seat, while we follow Athalie on her journey as she carries a massive burden, a burden for someone who is much beyond her years. I have high hopes for the next story in this series as I am sure it will continue with the great world building and just get stronger.

4.0 out of 5 stars YA Fantasy.
Format: KindleVerified Purchase4 Stars
Athalie is the first book in the Sacrificial Chronicles by Jordan Elizabeth. This is a YA fantasy with action, adventure, discovery, danger, drama, challenges, paranormal elements, Gods, and high stakes, with the fate of the world under threat.
Athalie has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders- the fate of the world to be exact. After being chosen for her people’s yearly sacrifice, she is resurrected by the Gods and given a quest in order to save the world. A weapon ha fallen into the hands of the Emperor who has plans to use it against the enemy- but he doesn’t realise that unleashing that power will actually annihilate their world. Athalie will need to track down the talismans needed to negate the power of the weapon. And so the adventure begins.
I loved the beautiful cover, and the synopsis was quite original and interesting, so I one-clicked a copy and immediately started the adventure. This story sets the Sacrificial Chronicles off to a bit of an epic start, with fascinating details and wonderful character/s.
This is the second book of Jordan Elizabeth’s that I have read- and is my favourite of the two, by far. I am so glad that I took the chance on this book- I will definitely be reading the rest of the series as I need to know where we go from here.
Bring on Book #2!!
Thank you, Jordan Elizabeth!
