- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a good book but I'm confused as to why it is written the way it is. It ends on a double cliffhanger.
The first part of the book we are introduced to all (as far as I know) the characters. I'm not sure who will get follow up and who won't .
For the first 50% (give or take a percentage or two) of this book is about Delilah and Maverick. It is told in Maverick's POV. It tells about the loss both of these characters have endured and the way they have grieved and supposedly overcome their grief. But then we are left with a major plot twist that ends of a cliffhanger.
The last 50% or so is told in Tucker's POV. He is Delilah's older brother. The story goes back to when they were kids, way before they met Maverick. This focuses not only on Delilah and Tucker's bond but also her best friend, Vivian, and the relationship she shares and struggles through with Tucker.
During all this we still see all the rest of their friends, some who play a big part in the story.
As Tucker's POV continues we meet Maverick again. We see Delilah and Maverick's relationship progress through Tucker's view. All the while we are still learning about his and Vivian's relationship.
By the end of this book it seems Tucker and Vivian have worked out. But then we come to the same twist of Delilah and Maverick. Though it extends in a small way that wasn't told by Maverick, we are left again with another cliffhanger.
I'm really confused as to why this wasn't split into two separate books seeing as it focuses on two different relationships. They are undisputedly intertwined because of both men (Maverick and Tucker) are a huge part of Delilah's life and play such a big part in her story.
The next book in the series is supposed to be told from Delilah's POV. This makes me question why her story wasn't part two of this book and book two Tucker's story.
All that said, this book is unique in the way the story is told (obviously by my previous comments) and I am trusting the author to clear up my confusion and it will all make sense in the end.
Why am I putting my trust in this author that I've never read before? Because the book is really good. It flows well (despite my confusion). It doesn't have any errors that I noticed. And honestly, I'm completely invested in these characters and how their stories all pan out.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIndia R.Adams, of course I read Book 3 first but that’s ok. This Steal Me: A Best Friend’s Sister Fighter Romance (Haunted Roads Book 1) answered many background questions for me. The voices of young love and grief were so compelling and powerful. Don’t ever stop writing your truths in these books. On to Book 2!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOMG this book had me in all my feelings. Ms Adams know how to pull your emotions out. She also handles sensitive subjects with much respect. Our main male character Maverick has suffered a major loss and moves to another town to start over. Meets our main female character Delilah who has also suffered a major loss. There is an interesting crew of secondary characters who have been through some stuff too. It's actually like having two books in one. The brother of Delilah has a story of his own within this one. There is a cliffhanger. But this story is so worth the read. The characters pull you in and you feel for them so much. On to book two.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSome books just grab ahold of you the moment you start reading. And then there are those writers who are so skilled at storytelling you don't realize you're reading a book - it's more than that, deeper, and just as real as the breath in your lungs. That's what it's like to jump into the pages of Steal Me.
A tale of love and loss that shatters the heart but also brings hope in the midst of darkness. Something this author does amazingly well and completely effortlessly. The characters are raw, open, and every single page brings them to life as you champion their success and hug them close to your heart as they suffer. The truth within these pages will latch on and become deeply rooted in your soul. Be prepared to journey through the haunted roads, but know this . . . you won't ever be the same.
Highly recommended! Incredibly well-written and not to be missed!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2021Format: KindleVerified Purchasefound the author on tiktok, and I immediately checked this book out on KU. I’m so glad that I did. India shows the grief the characters go through so well. This book was difficult to read at times, but so worth it. There are triggers in here for sensitive readers.
I fell in love with almost all of the characters. I loved the relationship Maverick had with his little sister. This was written so well and I had troubles putting the book down at times. I cried, I got mad, I even laughed. It takes a lot for an author to make you feel like this. I don’t want to give anything away, but hey if you want to cry, pick this book up and enjoy the ride! I need the next book now. There was a bit of a cliffy at the end!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEYOND 5 BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN STARS
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow. I think I need a minute to just stop and absorb all the feelings and emotions this book has left me with. I'm warning you now....This book will render you with the mother of all book hangover's. Tequila has got nothing on this rollercoaster ride. This novel quite literally knocked me on my Kindle a**. I'm so not done with the characters in this book. .
The synopsis is a group of friends , some of whom have experienced bereavement and the healing that takes place. It also deals (very well) with abuse. It is poignant, heartwarming, laugh out loud funny and truly memorable. Maverick is 16 when he loses his Dad suddenly and finds himself caring for his 4 , nearly 5 yr old sister Bailey, because his mother is grieving & totally blindsided & consumed by her husband's death. In a bid to make a fresh start they move to a small town outside of Atlanta. Maverick makes friends with some local teenagers and he, and Bailey are accepted into the group. If you usually avoid College / High school age characters in books I would urge you really strongly to give this a try. Yes, the main characters are seniors in high school and then we see them in college but the book has a mature feel to it. Some of their actions reflect their ages but it fits well and watching them mature is really satisfying. Maverick falls in love with Delilah , who has demons of her own but is so sweet albeit very guarded. Mav breaks her walls down beautifully. Maverick Hutton STOLE. MY. HEART. Delilah has an older brother, Tucker, who is a loveable badass. He is a player. oh yes he is. A delicious, hot headed, I want to slap him upside the head then hug him, player. Delilah's bestie is Viola. I adored her and all her sassy ways. She contrasts brilliantly with Delilah. The rest of the gang are fabulous too. And Bailey is just the sweetest little girl. I wanted to hug her tight - she could melt anyone. India did well to write a gorgeous child character that was endearing and sweet , I sometimes think children in novels don't work but Bailey has a huge role in this book and it's written to perfection.
I'm not going far into the plot with this review, you need to go in blind I think. I hate it sometimes when reviewers say that but in this case, just let yourself feel the story these guys want to tell you.
This is the first of two books. Is it a cliffhanger? (I am the Queen of cliffie haters btw. I will hold out and wait til all books are released) I would say the ending gives you enough to hold on and not be emotionally Kindle crippled!! But I am sooooo ready to read the next book. I want it now!!! *sighs in melodramatic fashion*
In summary, this book will stay with me. The characters are in my head and heart and I'm itching for more. It truly feels like a book that was written from the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first book by India R Adams that I've read. And I can't wait for Book 2 now!
Ok, no spoilers, so, here goes...
I loved all the main characters, Maverick, Tucker, Delilah and Viola. All damaged but strong characters. And Maverick's baby sister...ahhh
It's a long story, filled with drama, heartache and loss. But there's love, friendship and fun to balance it out. The book is written from 2 points of view and they overlap in a brilliant way.
It's been well thought out, well planned, has an amazing plot and great characters. It gripped me from the first page and it's one of those books I will read again.
MUST READ!

4.0 out of 5 stars Woes and oh noes! But with chuckles.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOh noes! You can't leave it there!!!
Wow; what a gripping story! Stories really, I suppose.
There's a whole group of misfits with horrific pasts who all come together in their very own special disfunctional way.
Great characters! I love Maverick especially. ;P
Halfway through there's a big perspective shift, and we get to see the story through someone else's eyes. This was really effective.
I only reserve one of the stars as the boys seem to have very adult/counsellor type insights a lot, despite being full of hormones. It could just be my sceptical mind, but sometimes these were just a bit too profound.
Other than that, I loved it.
There's serious issues such as abuse and death covered in this book.
They are extremely well handled, and done with compassion and understanding.
There's so much humour in these pages that the bad stuff is much easier to read.
I felt like I was in the little American town.
Definite recommend to a friend material.
