    Cale grinned crookedly as she swung a leg over and straddled his hips. "Hello, beautiful."

    "Hello, handsome," Mickey purred seductively and let her eyes roam leisurely across his entire upper body. Her hands followed suit soon after, examining every inch of solid muscle on this gorgeous man until...

    She noticed something of particular interest and paused with a tiny frown. "Cale?"

    "Yeah?"

    Mickey glanced up to see that his eyes were closed. She traced a finger delicately over the scar running the entire distance of Cale's left clavicle. "What's this from?"

    "Broke my collarbone. They had to put a metal plate and seven screws in there." He chuckled slightly before adding, "And a few loose wires, I think."

    Don't ask...

    "What happened?"

    Instantly, she felt Cale stiffen as he muttered tersely, "I fell."

    Oh. Must have happened in the same accident...

    Mickey slowly drew her fingertip down the center of his chest and the delectable length of his washboard abs.

    Don't...

    She paused to swipe lightly across his navel and whispered, "Can you feel this?"

    "Yeah."

    Continuing south along his tiger line, Mickey heard Cale draw in a sharp breath as she approached the invisible partition. It was halfway between his navel and the waistband of his pants. It was where she could see his taut muscles suddenly vanish.

    Don't do it...

    She carved a gentle path from hipbone to hipbone, right along the obvious divide. "How about this?"

    He swallowed hard. "Yeah..."

    Hesitantly, Mickey trailed even lower, crossing over to the other side of that fence, feeling the lax muscles yield under her timid touch. She'd seen enough to know that Cale couldn't move his legs voluntarily.

    But can he feel them?

    She dragged a horizontal line across his skin, breathing, "And this?"

    Cale immediately seized her wrist and in a blur, Mickey found herself flipped onto her back, staring into the sparkling emerald abyss only inches away. The weight of his chest pressed her into the mattress.

    "We have better things to do," he murmured huskily, a provocative smile tugging at his lips, "than talk."

    This girl...

    With a soft gasp, she grabbed a fistful of my hair as I tilted my head and burrowed kisses into her neck.

    I couldn't believe it.

    How she responded to my touch. Eagerly.     Impatiently. As if she wanted nothing else.

    It blew my mind.

    How her tight little body arched up to meet mine. Instinctively.     Desperately. As if she couldn't possibly get close enough.

    It blew my fucking mind.

    How her ankles locked together at the base of my spine. Securely.     Possessively. As if she would never let me go.

    "Mickey," I breathed urgently, attempting to pry one of her perfectly toned limbs from around my waist.

    She made a disapproving sound and brushed my efforts away.

    Chuckling slightly, I gave her thigh a gentle pat. "I need some room to work here."

    As she reluctantly loosened her hold, I slipped a hand between her legs and nearly unraveled on the fucking spot.

    "Jesus Christ, Mickey," I growled hoarsely, the words barely managing to scrape past my throat. She was so damn wet that I muttered another curse aloud before pulling back to look down at her.

    Shit.

    Obsidian eyes stared back at me. Glowing with unmistakable desire. Burning with nothing but lust.

    Holy shit.

    "I want you..."

    I was in trouble.

    "I want you so bad..."

    Okay, I wasn't really in trouble.

    "Cale..."

    Because when she whispered my name in that low, sexy purr...

    Something inside of me broke. Hell, it didn't even break. It     crumbled. Into dust.

    As she trembled beneath me, fingernails clawing painfully into my back, I groaned and captured her mouth with mine.

    I was fucking doomed.

      The story Hart Broken: A Wounded Hero Romance (Cale & Mickey Book 1) by Annie Arcane is a contemporary romance book. This is the story of two people whose past haunts them. They both have scars. Some are more noticeable than other. They find that they are attracted to each other. This begins a journey that has these two facing their past while trying to forge a future with each other. This is the story of Mickey Hart and Cale Windermere.

      I absolutely loved this story. It had my interest from the very first chapter and I couldn’t put it down until I had finished the last page. This is the first book I have read by the author and I found that she has an amazing way of weaving a story and developing her characters. I fell in love with both Mickey and Cale from the very beginning. Mickey is a woman who has a lot of rules for herself. It is after one night of breaking one of them that she finds herself in the company of Cale. She is very attracted to him and soon finds herself not able to get him out of her mind. From the beginning, there were actions that Mickey takes that make you wonder. As their relationship moves forward these actions become more noticeable and I found myself believing that they could cause problems for this couple. Cale is a man that may have a physical limitation however his feelings for Mickey have no limits. He is the ultimate alpha male. He is handsome and doesn’t back down from a challenge. While Cale is open about his life to Mickey she doesn’t reveal a lot of herself to him. Will Mickey start to trust Cale enough to share her past with him?

      I loved how Cale’s family welcomed Mickey in with open arms and makes her feel welcome. It is through them that she finds out a lot about the man she is falling in love with. Mickey, however, is not as open about her past. This becomes a problem when Cale starts talking about their future. I had the feeling that Mickey wanted to run from Cale so she didn’t have to deal with the situation. Harsh and hurtful words are spoken. Does this spell the end of the road for this couple? What does the future hold? Will they find the true love that both are searching for or will secrets Mickey keeps about her past keep them from moving forward? Read this book to find out what happens! This story does include adult language and adult situations. Mickey and Cale’s story has plenty of steamy romance. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.

      This book slayed my emotions. It put them in a pretty little box, then took a hammer and just decimated them. Yes it was that good! It actually touched my heart. Why, you ask? Author Annie Arcane has a depth to her writing that draws you in and intertwines your heart and soul to these characters and their emotions. Pretty deep, right!! Well stick with me, I'll pull you further down the rabbit hole.

      The book revolves around characters Mackensington aka Mickey and Cale aka captain sexy pants... I might have added the captain sexy pants part but I feel it's an accurate accounting of Cale. Anywho I digress. Mickey is a spirited, sweet and damaged soul. Although she hides her damage so very well and plays it off like a champ, until one day she doesn't and when she breaks Cale is there to catch her. Cale is strong and sound of mind but not so much body as he is wheelchair bound. Cale has an amazing personality and a very realistic grip on his life, he's got limitations but he's not letting them slow him down. He truly is a different type of super hero, but even super heroes aren't perfect and have doubts.

      The characters each have their own personal struggles with life and the hard knocks that it can deal out. Love is this beautiful and freeing emotion but it can also be ugly and messy and right in the midst of this crazy/beautiful emotion the need to hold a part of yourself back for protection or even self preservation will rear its ugly head. This specific emotion is one you will find written in a way that doesn't leave you mad or upset with a character (so guilty of this usually) but instead it leaves you cheering on these 2 dynamic characters and praising the author for her writing style.

      I would really hate to leave out the supporting characters which add laughter, depth and shoulders to lean on when doubt comes knocking and a kick in the butt when acting like fools.

      That all being I said I will be brutally honest because that's just how I roll. Mickey does this stuttering thing because Cale is gorgeous and I believe that it stuns her into panty melting territory but the stuttering drove me crazy, although to be honest if I was confronted with someone as beautiful as Cale I might stutter to so who am I to judge! So, yeah it drove me crazy until it just became a part of her quirky personality. That's my only negative and let's face it, it's reaching at being a negative.

      I can only urge you to read this book and take the journey for yourself.....

      Both take turns, telling the story from their respective points of view.

      A really great book, pulled me straight in and kept me reading with enthusiasm throughout. A romance which is quite out of the norm: vivacious, fun, a hint of mystery about both characters. The writing was great (although took a couple of chapters to get used to): written mainly from Mickey's point of view (her thoughts in italic are followed by what actually comes out of her mouth - the two rarely match up!), then we have the short bits from Cale's POV.

      I loved the characters. Cale is calm, confident, sexy and assured, he's also realistically unpredictable - he often comes out with a completely different reaction than I was expecting, a man who keeps his cards close to his chest. Mickey as a character can be frustrating. Her complete refusal to ask questions - because if she doesn't ask of others, then they can't ask any about her - made me want to shake her at times, but she has her own past which she also keeps tightly locked down. She is also fun, determined and independent. The chemistry between the two is great. Alongside them is a great set of supporting characters and the relationships here - friendships, family, the ex - really add to the book.

      In addition, it's great to see a well written disabled hero - both sexy but also accurate. My ex is paraplegic and some books with spinal cord injured characters make my teeth itch with the rubbish they come out with. Happy to report this isn't one of them!

      The story builds up to a great tension and resolution, and I'll definitely be reading the next in the series.

      This gorgeous candyman and perfect gentleman deserved a more considerate and less annoying heroine. Cale Windermere's emerald eyes are alluring, charming, romantic and made me want to dive deep into his soul, I wish I had known more about what was going on inside him - and Mickey too. Her mysterious behavior of leaving the bed made no sense to me. Neither I got to know the chain of reasons that led her to mistreat Cale in that unforgivable way. But, he’s a good man with a heart of a lion, so he forgave her. I wouldn’t. ♡♡♡♡

      Best book I've read in years!!! this is my true opinion and I just cannot believe it isn't a major succes! Honestly, It's a wonderful lovestory, which I dream about almost every night, since I've read it! I'm just totaly in love with those strong charakters and the beautiful story. Cale is a georgeous dream man and you just have to fall instantly in love with the whole package of him... including his wheelchair, which doesn't make him less stunning in any way. He is a fighter who made the most of his situation and never gave up. And so is she. The more you get to know about her and her history- the more you understand that the two of them are soulmates and just meant to be together! But their background is also the reason why they have problems with each other and I think we could read a lot more about that in future books ....hopefully coming soon! The story goes right through the pages inside your heart. And the dialogues are realistic and very funny with great humor. I'm German, so please forgive me my bad English, but I had to write this down. So if you like romances which you cannot put away until finished reading the whole Book, please buy this one. There are a lot of bad wiitten and boring books on the market...this is not one of them, it's a treasure you will keep in your heart. So why ist this one still an Indie-Book...? I cannot believe it.

      This is a difficult review for me to write. Difficult because the romance genre is not one I’m particularly familiar with and as such I’m not really qualified to say whether <i>Hart Broken</i> is a good romance novel or not. What I can do is judge it upon more universal traits of writing and say whether or not it is a good overall novel.

      For what it’s worth I enjoyed this read. Annie Arcane’s voice is brimming with energy and enthusiasm throughout the piece and this transfers to the reader keeping them interested. Coming from a thriller background I kept waiting for the plot to ramp up and something exciting to happen but it never quite did. Again, this could entirely be due to the difference in genres and as such I won’t hold it against the book. Despite the lack of edge-of-your-seat thrills, as mentioned before, it’s still an enjoyable read mainly due to the characters.

      Characterization is where Arcane really shines. I don’t recall excessive description of either Cale or Mickey in terms of how they look and yet when reading this book you can clearly see them in your mind’s eye. This is Arcane showing us them rather than telling us about them. It works quite well for this story and is a testament to her talent as an author. What drives this novel is emotional resonance and she does an amazing job of laying bare the emotions involved in this relationship. Throughout the ups and downs and all the cringe worthy moments, you really do feel like you’re right in the middle of this relationship not so much watching it all but <i>experiencing</i> it all.

      And given that emotion is paramount here the ending left me with mixed feelings. I read the last few chapters while holding my breath—the raw emotion on display in her writing is simply that breathtaking. For these chapters alone I would recommend any fan of fine discourse to read this book. With that said however, the end reveal (I won’t give it away here) left me feeling cheated. To drop such a charged emotional bomb with no time to properly explore it seems contrary to the thematic sequence of the novel. Perhaps it will be explored in further volumes, but perhaps not. Either way, as a reader you’re left without that sense of closure.

      Then again, Arcane could be cleverly making a comment on the nature of life and relationships…
