    I loved Tomlinson's other series so was interested to try her foray into PNR. I'm not usually into shifter books, but gave it a try because of her previous excellent writing.
    This did not disappoint. She nailed it. An intense start to a new series that caught me up and dragged me in and made me devour this book in one sitting. The characters are amazing, and that means all, not just the two main ones. Ms Tomlinson has taken the PNR/shifter scenario and tweaked it with real imagination and suspense to give us a series that is sure to be great if this early taster is anything to go by.
    No light weight fluff in this book. It is gritty and tough with strong characters. A range of intriguing aspects: shifters with unusual powers but the usual intensity, romance with fated mates with issues to resolve, a tough and capable heroine, great bad boy alpha, strong pack loyalties, evil Bastards that we hate already, and mysterious fae - this be series has it all - but when coupled with great, suspenseful writing, this is not your usual run-of-the-mill shifter romance, so jump in and give it a go.
    I've already pre-ordered the next book and can't wait to see where this story takes me.

    This book is exquisitely emotionally raw. Personally, I love that kind of writing. I enjoyed that multiple senses were taken into account when describing the shifters surroundings and when the characters were analyzing certain situations. A lot of authors neglect to account for the heightened senses that a wolf, for example, would possess. I appreciate that this author paid attention to those details.
    The characters are just great. I mean Connor at the beginning is a bit of an....alphahole. But he is an alpha and once you read his POV it starts coming together. I like Ember, especially when she is communicating with her wolf and fire sides. The only thing with her is she comes off a bit too adolescent for the traumatic stuff she's been through. Sometimes she doesn't take the time to think before panicking. The only thing that I wish we would have gotten was more time with the main characters together, more flashbacks to their past, or something. I feel like we weren't given enough time to build a stronger connection to them as a couple.
    Even though I enjoyed it, there were parts where I was left kinda doubting the actions of the main characters or confused about what was happening in the story. As a reader, when that happens you start feeling like you've been left out of information which is known to the character, but hasn't been shared with you.
    I'll continue reading and hope to uncover some answers. I can't wait to see where the Walker re-enters and what Ember will do.

Now Ember is a slave to a Bogart living off grid doing dirty dangerous deeds. She has a mysterious past as well as a mysterious power. Conner is also a slave to a psychopath with a perversion but we don't know the darkness he's planning for Conner. Ug.! I need sleep so I can start book two!

    Shifters being hunted and imprisoned by government for nefarious purposes isn't the most original of set-ups for a series - nor is the fae doing their own utterly egoistical thing, screwing everyone over in the process just because they can.
    The writing is a point in favour for this book; one is instantly drawn into the world the author has created.
    However, there are some twists and turns in the story line that really strain one's suspension of disbelief like the abrupt change in spirit animal at one point, and even for the story line mentioned above, this is quite brutal.
    There are numerous references to rape and torture which made me reluctant to continue with the series.

    This was a great start to this series and I can’t wait to read more. As I’ve come to expect with Tomlinson, this book was filled with twists and turn and emotional ups and downs.
    The world-building was good and I liked this version of shifters, there are a lot of questions about the world left open and ready to explore and I’m itching to know more about the fae.
    Ember and Connor are great MCs, they’re both a little bit broken, but stronger for it and I can’t wait to see have their story progresses.
    My only gripe is a small one, which is that the dialogue and narration read heavily American for large parts of the book. Especially for Connor’s chapters or dialogue. Considering it’s set in and around London it just took away from the setting for me.

    ‘Beginnings’ is a prequel novella to Karen Tomlinson’s Shadow Sentinels series. If you want to know where Connor, Ember, and Rawson story started this is the book to start with.

    This author is new to me, I was recommended this series through an author page I follow on Facebook. I devoured this book in one sitting. It was a great start to a new world and author for me.

    Ember is a Wolf but there is something else that is destructive and dangerous that’s inside her. Her parents died when she was young which resulted with her living on the streets as an orphan fighting for survival. Found by Rawson and taken in where she stays and learns how to defend herself as well as prepare to become a member of the SBI a supernatural agency. But when Connor her potential mate goes missing everything she knew and loved is turned upside down.

    I did enjoy this story, it was full of twists and turns, shocking revelations, emotional devastation. I was on the edge of my seat turning every page needing to know what was going to happen next. An emotional roller coaster with ups and downs and a bit of steam thrown into the mix.

    It’s very Hot and cold between Ember and Connor, with so many secrets. Just when you think these two are about to get serious something tears them apart again.

    I love the world that Ms Tomlinson has created her and I look forward to reading the next book in this series to see how things work about between Ember and Connor. A heartbreaking ending that I am in desperate need to know what is going to come next.
