4.6 out of 5 stars 612 ratings

In the close-knit community of Cottonwood Springs, secrets are like currency. Held close, shared sparingly, and sometimes, traded at a high price. When members of Brigid's book club find themselves on the receiving end of sinister notes, the stakes are high. The mysterious blackmailer demands a sum of $3,000 to keep their hidden truths concealed. But what price can one truly put on secrets?

Brigid, always one to champion the cause of her friends, finds herself in the eye of this storm. Taking it upon herself to unmask the shadowy extortionist, she treads a dangerous path — a path where every step is a minefield of personal vendettas, hidden agendas, and secrets she'd rather remained hidden.

Her husband and daughter are understandably worried. They fear not only for her safety but also for the sanctity of their family life. As Brigid gets more entrenched in the investigation, she's forced to confront not only the secrets of her book club friends but the shadows of her own past. Can she navigate the treacherous waters of deceit, or will she be consumed by the very secrets she's trying to protect?

Another one that keeps you guessing--and it is quite unusual-I LOVED it

Another one that keeps you guessing--and it is quite unusual-I LOVED it
When four people who are members of the book club all receive blackmail letters--they try to not tell anyone. But one of the other members finally gets one of the women to tell Brigid. Then others admit to getting blackmail letters at their front doors as well. If they didn't give the person $3,000 then he would disclose secrets that they had kept hidden for various reasons. Brigid sets out to try and find the person without the help of the sheriff since none of these people wanted him involved! She talks to all of them individually to see if there is anything that might connect them. Nothing--- Brigid must have been getting whoever it was nervous because then she received a letter--only hers said to bud out!! Which of course made her try even harder! Finally a friend of one of the people came around and said she had also gotten a letter--but she knew who the culprit was!! They had to get the sheriff involved at this point--what they found will make you shudder! And yes, there was a thread that connected all these people! All I am going to say is thank heavens for BIG dogs--he ultimately saved the day!!

I always enjoy Dianne's books. Light, easy to read and follow. The story and characters are not convoluted. It's easy enough to follow the suspects and evidence. I never can guess exactly who done it. I especially enjoy listening to them. They make the drive so much more interesting. The narrator did a great job.

Book clubs can be delightful and fun. Sharing similar interests and making new friends. It just when a divorce hasn’t been accepted by one of the parties that things can get ugly! But, when you send or deliver blackmail letters to a few members with threats, well, that’s a whole others book of worms. The ex husband was slowly losing control and he put Brigid and the sheriff through an ordeal even Linc! You must read this book it is awesome and a page turner!😊😊😊

Another winner for Dianne as Bridget gets embroiled in a blackmailing case. Some members of the book club have received demands for money, or their secrets would be revealed. There are twists and turns that increase the tension up to breaking point as Linc and Holly worry about Bridget's safety.
