Claire Contreras is many things — a New York Times Bestselling author, breast cancer survivor, mother, and wife.

Thanks to her boredom and rebellious nature, she has an affinity to genre-jump, so in her backlist, you can find anything from contemporary romance, to sports romance, to romantic suspense, to books she can only describe as, “Weird, but romantic?”

Despite the genre-jumping, all of her stories are multicultural and feature strong heroines (Claire has never met a weak woman --- they just don’t exist), found families (because she doesn’t know where she’d be without hers), and heroes who fall first, harder, are kind of obsessed with the heroine and always trying to impress her (because that’s the hero she married 17 years ago).

Claire was born in the Dominican Republic, raised in Miami, and lives in North Carolina, where she spends her days marveling at the beautiful sky and forcing her family to marvel along with her.

Since starting her publishing journey in 2013, she has written over 25 romance novels, which have been translated into over 20 languages.

Claire gave up social media a couple of years ago, but according to her horoscope, she can’t reach her full potential if she’s always hiding, so she’s trying to get back out there this year. Maybe.

Working my way through Claire Contreras backlist after reading Until I Get You and absolutely LOVING it! I decided to start with Because You’re Mine & it was so good! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Catalina comes from a mafia family, but has distanced herself - especially from her father. When her sister needs her to fill in for her in a class for a few weeks Cat meets Lorenzo - the hot professor who doesn’t want to let her into the class. Cat discovers that many things aren’t what she thought they were, and people aren’t who they say. 🩰Romantic suspense 🩰Mafia 🩰Dark 🩰Possessive MMC 🩰Angsty “I don’t think I’m in love with you, Catalina. I know I am,” he says. “Stupid in love with you.” “I’ll be yours forever whether or not you say yes to this,” he’d said. “But I would really appreciate it if you did—say yes, that is.”

    I just don’t know where to start with Because You’re Mine by Claire Contreras!! I just FLOVED this book! I devoured every page and read it in record time! It was suspenseful and the twist and turns were very unexpected! I keep saying to myself, I didn’t see that coming!  It kept me on my toes in the best way possible! I always like to guess the outcome and there was no guessing correctly with this one!  But then again, those are my absolute favorite! It’s not fun to read a book and have it all figured out!  You want to story to unfold in way you never saw coming a Because You’re Mine did just that!!

    Catalina grew up with her father being a mob boss. She knows that lifestyle and as an adult swore never to be a part of it.  It’s part of the reason why she used her mother’s maiden name. She’s worked her way top of her profession as the principal ballerina in a New York City dance company.  Dance gives her focus and an outlet.  Her and her sister are very close and when her sister asked a favor to attend a class for her she didn’t think anything of it.  Her sister is out of town and just needs to attend the two classes she needs to graduate from college. This small favor will change her life and throw everything she thought she know out the window.

    Lorenzo is everything Catalina is trying to remover herself from.  The suave Italian that is sexy and intelligent.  He’s literally sex on a stick!!  He’s covering for his friend who is teaching the class Catalina is attending for her sister. He’s not supposed to fall for her.  He knows the secrets of her past and he knows he should not get involved with her but he’s drawn to her.

    Their paths keep passing and it seems the more they try to stay apart, fate is trying to keep them together.  For someone who is trying to escape from their past, the future keeps pulling Catalina to a place she never expected.   This story was just amazing and a top read of 2018 for me! I tell you I just have soft spot for mafia romances!! There is just so much more I want to say but I don’t want to spoil any part of the story!!  Just know this… READ IT!  Well done to Ms Contreras for bring us another outstanding read!!

    I liked it. I can't lie, I like Until I Get you better. With this MMC and FMC, I didn't understand how they really got together or overcame all the negatives that started their relationship...it was purely physical. But, I'll read the next book, because I HAVE to find out what's going on with the other characters. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    This is the 3rd book I’ve read from Claire Contreras (The Player and Until I Get You).

    I liked the mafia aspect of this story but I’m left with some questions…
    1. Her mom was going to come back but then that story line was thrown out the window and there wasn’t an reunion with her mom? Why?
    2. What happened to her sister? Where did she end up going?
    3. They talked about Emma and Cat going to look for their mom but then suddenly she’s living in Miami and working at a studio? What happen to looking for her mom?
    4. What became of the feud with Vinny? They just let bygones be bygones because his life was spared and that’s it?
    5. When Vinny was shot by her dad and fell to the ground there was DEFINITELY enough time to her dad and/or his men to get to her but Vinny had enough time to get up (moderately injured), pick up debris that was laying on her, pick her up, and walk her to the car? There was 3 against 1? How did that work?

    I think this could have been an AMAZING book if there was more depth to the storyline and character development. I struggled with connecting to the characters or even the love that they developed SUPER fast… don’t get me wrong! This was still a good read but with the different details that were spinning around, this book would have been better for me if it was longer and the different aspects were more expanded on.

    This is one of those books that would be good to read if you’re in a slump and need help getting out of it or just want a small read.

    I am not sure I would reread this.

    My Thoughts: This book was so good from start to finish. Claire Contreras does an excellent job with a spicy suspenseful romance book. Catalina is a principal ballet dancer, who's forced to take her sister’s place at the university while her sister is away. She reluctantly agrees and meets Loren. Lorenzo is domineering, swoon-worthy, and blunt with Cat from the very beginning. There is so much chemistry and tension between these two at first sight. Once again, Cat finds herself involved in crime and her family's history despite her attempts to stay away, as she reluctantly agrees to meet Lorenzo. As the story unfolds, the reader gradually learns about secrets and betrayals. Cat and Loren must decide if what they have is worth fighting for or if the past trumps everything they have together. I thought the ending was perfect for these two and once again loved how persistent Loren was. This is a standalone mafia romance book set in a series of other characters. It’s filled with some extra spicy scenes, violence, and twists. I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to continue reading the other’s stories.

    It really is a great book that grips you from the start. I liked the mystery behind Loren even if it was predictable it was well written. I liked the character of Catalina she was true to herself for most of the book but ofc love changed everything.

    This book is a good taster book to be introduced to mafia romance. The aspects of mafia are subtle to ease yourself in. I actually really liked this book. It only got 4 stars as I enjoy to read a bit more spice. Don't get me wrong, there is spice in the book, but again, it is subtle.
