I wasn't all that impressed with the first in this series, so I'm not sure why I bought the second. Perhaps it was to see if our corrupt policeman, Folan, finally gets caught.

How Folan continued to ply his trade in drug trafficking without scrutiny astounded me. This time his ruthlessness extended to brutally torturing Miller, our protagonist, with the help of a compliant nurse. To add another layer of incredulity, Miller has now become a gun-toting taxi driver.

The plot lacked depth but, every so often, Gibbons comes up with a beautiful turn of phrase, so there is no shortage of writing talent. I just wonder whether the plots could be developed a little further. I won't try the third, partly because of a fear that we'll go around in circles again, with Folan calling the shots and once again emerging unscathed.
