WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS

Fiction has the power to change lives.

Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.

But there are messages within the messages.

There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.

Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.

This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.

THE LOWDOWN

Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.

In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.

In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

The comic version of the book couldn't have been any better. Everything was spot on. Even the guns were drawn as if Jim Lee was doing them. While I enjoyed this medium, it did lack for some slow points in the story boards, but that is a minor quip and probably only because I've read the book twice and knew what was coming and wanted to get to it.
The characters were well drawn, the dialogue tight and were Semper Fi! to the book.

This is my first experience with an electronic graphic novel. It was fun for a change. However, Cooper writes so well and is edited so well that I must day I prefer the written novels. This series is so exciting that much of the urgency to continue reading into the night seems to be lost in the graphic novel. It was easy to put this down to do something else, but not so with Cooper's regular novels. In fact when I get so caught up that I forget about everything else! I think I'll stick to the regular novels.

This graphic novel is the first episode based on the first book in the C. G. Cooper Corps Justice series. The artists do a great job of bringing the books characters to life in graphic illustration.

You don't need to have read the book Back To War to enjoy this graphic novel. This is Episode One, so it does end in a cliff hanger and is not meant to be read as a standalone. There is a lot of violence and swearing so this not for sensitive readers.

The storyline basics are Cal Stokes and his fiancee Jessica are out on a dinner date. They are targeted by a gang for the initiation of a new gang member. The gang didn't count on Cal being a former Marine and fighting back during the attack. Things don't go as planned for anyone.

I look forward to the future episodes of this graphic novel.

I earlier read the novel this was adapted from and was a little concerned that I wouldn't like this as much. It's been a long time since I read a book that depends on pictures as well as words to make the reader want to be there. So I relaxed my internal skeptic and dove in.

It was so worth it! While the pictures may not have been identical to the images of the characters my brain had come up with, they would have looked like close relatives. But more importantly, this book stands on its own. It jumps into the story, gives the full context, tugs on your heartstrings, and makes you want justice with an almost visceral response.

So take a chance on a new series and get to know Cal Stokes. You'll wish he could be your new best friend.

Consistent with the novel, just too gory (graphic) for my taste. Artwork is good but I will not continue this comic series.

I was an avid comic book collector (as they called graphic novels back then) in my youth and it has been several decades since I have picked one up. This was just as enjoyable as the book. These days I prefer the books as the characters are all pictured in my mind but I think there is a definite market for the graphics too. Great idea and hope they are continued.
