Back Where I Belong: A Sexy, Laugh-out-loud Romantic Comedy! (Susan Wade Saga Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 225 ratings

First comes love, then comes marriage…

Falling in love with Pete was as easy as falling off his boat, and his oh-so-romantic marriage proposal was impossible to turn down, but after the fairy dust settles, Susan’s left wondering if she’s making the right decision. Pete's thinking big wedding, Susan's thinking Vegas. Pete wants kids, Susan wants a corner office. Is there anything they can agree on?

Juggling work demands, wedding details, and Pete’s meddlesome relatives soon proves too much for her, and Susan starts dropping balls. Important balls. Balls she would never normally drop. And when she discovers her too-big dress is suddenly too small, a quick glance at her calendar tells her a few compromising bachelorette party photos may be the least of her worries.

A side-splitting comedy about marriage, family, and the choices women make.

Bestselling Author Virginia Gray looks for humor in every situation. A graduate of Wake Forest University, she spent part one of her career as a college professor. But after years of research, eighty-hour work weeks, and generally trying to take over the world, she stepped away from academics to pursue her love of writing. And because no task is more daunting than making sense of the senseless male psyche, her stories always explode from the glorious mouth of chaos. (You're welcome.) Until she packs her bags and moves to the beach, she lives in the Midwest with her wonderful family and far too many pets.

After reading the other books in the saga, I was excited to get my hands on the third, and from page one, I knew it was worth the wait. Susan Wade seems to have it all, finally—the career, the hot man, and friends and family to support her. The “What’s next?” is crafted into a journey of self-doubt and cynicism that reminded me in a hurry how truly gifted Ms. Gray is at delivering comedic dialogue and situations. Not only did I love Susan’s feisty, sarcastic approach to things, but I also grew to absolutely adore Pete even more than in the second book. This is no small feat, considering “The Golden Handcuffs” was written in first person. But Ms. Gray is brilliant at showing Susan’s thoughts and feelings, while developing truly likeable characters, as well as several nasty ones. Although I am sorry to see the series end, it has made me a Virginia Gray fan for life! I highly recommend this and all the books in the saga for the realistic career path presented—with all its bumps and bruises—and the day-brightening laughs along the way. This is romantic comedy at its finest—snarky, steamy, and completely irreverent. I loved every page-turning minute of it!

I read the series and thought it was worth the read. At times I was thoroughly disappointed with Susan, she really took a long time to realize what's important in life.

I have to say from the start that this is not my usual genre. There are no zombies, or magic, no creatures or sword fights. So it says a lot about an author who can craft a story I wouldn’t normally read, pull me in, and keep me coming back for more. I was hooked from the first page of book #1 and could see some of my younger self in Susan Wade. I laughed my way through the whole thing and became an instant fan of the author. She keeps the main character on her toes throughout the entire saga, throwing enough workplace, family, friend, and romantic curveballs at Susan to keep you laughing and turning the pages. Though I’m sad to see the series wrap up, I have thoroughly enjoyed going along for the ride as Susan—realistically and hilariously—maneuvered her way through the twists and turns of life.

I would definitely recommend this well-written series to anyone who enjoys smart, genuine, and endearing characters, snarky dialogue, humor, and of course romance. Looking forward to seeing what’s next from the author!

There is a wonderful reason why this and every review is Five Stars. Virginia Gray’s breezy, off the cuff, and very humorous prose drew me into this world of Susan Wade. The read is like binge-watching a season of your favorite show because despite the pleasure experienced, the closing credits make you long for more. The ordinary story of life within becomes a juggernaut of emotion, excitement, intrigue, and familiar marital rollercoaster moments. The voice of Susan Wade and her views on life and her crisp attitude narrated the journey as if I were right there and nodding at her while nursing a drink at her favorite haunt. Women are superior beings and Susan Wade has to fight a lot of inferior ones of both genders to survive while providing a funny and entertaining view of life. My appetite is whetted and more Susan please. I plead for “The Brass Diaper Bag” just so I can binge some more. Ms Gray? Susan’s life can easily turn on a dime with a few keystrokes and perhaps you will relate further hilarity and adult foibles? I mean, can’t we be expecting too? And how did Susan and Pete run out of purple “ones”? I enjoyed your saga and hope for “SagaMore.”

I love this book and series. If you like romantic comedy, this is for you. The book is very well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author does a great job portraying the characters and their emotions.

I fell in love with the characters in book 2. Susan and Wade remind me of Zoe and Wade from the TV show Heart of Dixie. They love each other like crazy but fight like cats and dogs. They are always trying rile the other.

Although Susan is a good businesswoman, she is extremely obtuse. She is completely oblivious to the obvious.

I hope the author will bring the characters back for more.

The storyline is never boring. It has a continuous flow. It also demonstrates how many women close their doors on their careers because husbands remind their spouses where they belong or else. On the other hand, a child shouldn't suffer because mommy can't get her priorities straight and maybe she should not have had children in the first place. Nevertheless, when there is a will there is a way. This story is enjoyable.

An entertaining blend of business, friendship and Romance with a side of suspense as the story of the Golden Handcuffs by Virginia Gray unwinds. The plot swiftly carries you through the life and times of Susan Wade; a woman with a steely head for business, a dedication to her work and friends and a passionate, experienced lover with a few tasty secrets.
A little bit country and a little bit high society, Golden Handcuffs is appealing to multiple genres and a fabulous addition to your summer reading list. I hadn't read the first two books in the series, but was able to pick right up with the plot and follow along with ease. I plan to check them all out and you should too!

While this is technically not a stand alone book, it does read as a stand alone. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I didn't know that it was part of a series and found some of the details confusing as it related to the history of the characters. The story details the relationship of Susan and Pete, how their relationship begins and all the trails that come with it on their way to married life. Susan is a hard working career woman who knows what she wants , trying to fit into Pete's life rich with friends and family. Two people from very different backgrounds and very different ideas of how their life and relationship should be. All the twists and turns of the story keep you hooked waiting for more.

The Golden Handcuffs is the third instalment in Virginia Gray's Susan Wade series, and once again I felt as if I was meeting up with an old friend. Here we find Susan about to marry the talented & handsome Pete Walsh. Is she set for a life of wedded bliss? Of course not. Virginia Gray brings her trademark keen eye and sharp sense of humour to bear, and once again we are swept up into the hilarious, exasperating, hugely compelling misadventures of Susan Wade.
I love the cast of characters this author has created, and can't help but think if this series fell into the right hands, the story would transfer very well onto film or TV.

I'm still not a Susan fan, her character grates on me, but I think Pete brings out the best in her. I did laugh heartily in a few sections of this book, where we I only managed a few smiles in book 2. The story is well told and I liked most of the characters but I was disappointed we didn't to find out about Susan's visit to court and the outcome.
