DEAD WRONG (Detective Jack Creed Murder Mystery Books Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

3.2 out of 5 stars 135 ratings

"After 20 years they thought they had got away with it. But a scavenger hunt would unearth a horrible secret"

DEAD WRONG is short read #3 of 8 in the top selling Detective Jack Creed Murder Mystery Books Series

Former Lloyds of London financial whizz Charles Abernathy, the new owner and renovator of Barnesdale Manor, a grand estate located in the serene countryside just outside Bangalow, NSW, Australia, is stunned when he receives a registered letter suggesting he 'looks into things of the past'.

The recluse Abernathy is even more miffed about the suggestion he should hold a scavenger hunt at Barnesdale Manor in order to reveal these 'things of the past'. Although he does not know many people in the village of Bangalow, he decides to proceed as it will give him an opportunity to showcase his renovated Manor.

But when the guests become frustrated with the not being able to find all the items in the scavenger hunt, Abernathy gives them the ultimate clue that leads his guests to find a skeleton in the cellar. One skeleton is bad enough but when the dead body of one of the guests is also found, the police must be called.

Did Charles Abernathy know of the skeleton or is he the murderer playing a silly game. One thing is for sure, to discover things of the past, Detective Jack Creed needs to be called in to solve another international mystery & crime.

Jack Creed is a traditional detective with a twist. He’s part of a police procedural team, but that’s where the similarities end. Readers of Australian mystery books author C T Mitchell say Creed is a “Rebus in a Valentino suit”. But don’t let his Italian loafers, linen jackets or his ‘67 Mustang fool you. Creed is hard, anti-establishment, a fiercely loyal family man and the copper you need in a crime investigation with no unsolved mysteries to his name.

Mystery novel Australian author C T Mitchell delivers another police procedural masterpiece featuring Detective Jack Creed who is up to his armpits with a myriad of suspects including a socialite real estate agent, a post master with a suspect past and a town of gossiping back stabbers - all of which makes this whodunit even more intriguing!

This is a short story and like the others the author has written it is okay. It is a sparse mystery and I would like more clues instead of the very quick solving of the crime. Still it was okay to read and I finished the book.

Great twist on story and finish. Jack Creed is tough and observant. This story is rich with detail and well developed characters. It makes you want to read more, in fact all of them as I have. CT's books are habit forming. As soon as you finish one, you look for the others and you won't be disappointed.

You have it all in this book, a mansion, inheritance, a dead body and too many suspects. You'll love the ending. Highly recommended.

A rich recluse, a manor house, and a scavenger hunt add up to murder – or, should I say murders. I enjoyed this book and recommend it – especially for those who think they know who dun it.

The Secret of Barnesdale Manor is a great read. If you're looking for a short story to read that will satisfy while waiting, you need to read this.

It's saving grace is that it's short. The characters are stale, one dimensional and talk like a very bad B-film.

The "mystery" make very little sense. I have read several of them and this review would be the same all the way around.

Another murder mystery solved by Jack Creed and his partner, with a bit of strange behavior from the whole community.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hard to put down Novel

This is the second Jack Creed book I have read; I believe this was first in the series, so I thought I'd like to get them into some order. Jack carefully traces clues at the scene of the murder at the manor, after the finding of a body in the cellar. His sharp eyes notice the little things and the eventual solution is one I certainly would never have guessed at - a truly unique reason to kill. The writing leads you along a series of trails at a galloping pace designed to make you want the story to keep going. I read it in a couple of evenings, and have become quite a fan. I know I'll pick up another Jack Creed novel soon.
nb. Wrong! This isn't the first book, so I have another to read to get into order. Looking forward to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very simplistic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 27, 2015
I bought this whilst looking for a traditional detective story. However, despite the title, it is not a good example of the genre. I'm not sure of the intended audience but there is very little description or, indeed, vocabulary! It reads very like a play or film script in that characters are mentioned but there is no build up or context and plot development is limited to a series of disconnected events. I wondered if it was intended for young teens as the language and sentence structure are both very simple but I suspect it falls below the standard required for that market. My first conclusion was that the author is just not a very good writer but I researched some of his other work and that is not the case; he can obviously write but chose not to for this book. That is entirely his decision although it could be seen as very cynical. This is obviously not a 'bestseller' nor is it a good detective story but as long as people know what they are buying then they can make their own decision whether to buy or not.

Excellent book, I liked the way the plot unfolded; seemed too short, left me wanting more.
