- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseHe thinks he is a beauty but he really is a beast! Beast by Debra Anastasia is definitely a five star read. It has the laugh factor, the sweet and loving factor and of course what is typical for Anastasia, the WHAT THE HECK AM I READING factor.
From the very beginning of this story I knew it was going to be a good but I just didn’t know how much I would fall in love with these characters. You think you know where the story is going but you are far from the truth. Dick Dongy is a sketchy character all across the board.
He shows up in a hoodie hiding his face, a face that is basically covered in abs. In fact his whole body is covered in abs. He has a shovel, bleach, rope and a tarp in his vehicle, which are all the makings for a serial killer right? I mean what else would you think.
Well the truth is just WOW. As much as I want to write what he really is doing I don’t want to ruin that for you. Believe me, you won’t see it coming from the beginning.
Dick kinda is a jerk. He thinks his crap doesn’t stink and that he really is the hottest thing that has ever walked the face of the earth. He meets girls in bars and warns them that they are going to fall for him but don’t. SMH Oh if only he really saw himself how everyone else did.
The main female character Hendrix does not listen to Dick’s warning and gets closer to him. She finds out who the real Dongy is and can’t help but continue to find out what else there is to this man abs and all.
This book is definitely more than what meets the eye. It shows you that you can’t judge a book by its cover and that there is more than what meets the eye. It’s Anastasia’s own personal twist on Beauty and the Beast. These two characters are perfect for each other and I am glad that Hendrix went against her own personal judgment and found out just who Dick Dongy really is.
I am hoping that we get more from these characters in the future. I would love to catch up with them and see how life is now that things have changed for the better for them both.
Definitely check this book out. You will laugh so much that your abs hurt then in the next time be swooning by the compassion from these characters.

Where do I even start with this book?! This is by far one of the weirdest books I've ever read.
First I was confused by the character's names. I was expecting a MF romance but was introduced to Henry and Dick...? It was eventually cleared up but still a bit odd.
Then there was Dick Dongy. Really?! Dick. Dongy. Odd name aside, this guy comes across as a total weirdo, from the way he talks about himself to the things he says, "Well, you're going to want to research me. It's just going to happen to you. I'm sorry. So to save you time, I programmed my number in your phone.". I was left scratching my head & wondering what his deal was.
We're sort of mislead to believe that Dick Dongy might be a serial killer (I mean who else keeps a shovel, a tarp and bleach in the back of their SUV?!) but we find out that he just has an unusual hobby that's actually kind of endearing.
So we go from a self obsessed reverse stalker to a misunderstood rescuer. The more time we spend with Dick the more we see behind Dongy's facade and the more you start to like him.
This book swings from a nonsensical comedy to a sweet romance to a thriller in the span of 116 pages.
The ending felt rushed and left me wanting just a little bit more. Overall, it was a very interesting book and not one I'll soon forget.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI honestly couldn’t tell WHAT I was reading basically the whole time, but Debra has a way of drawing you into the insanity and keeping you turning the page because it all seems so absurd and you’re wondering “what the heck does that even mean??” I still have questions, but it’s really sweet, and funny, and truly absurd in places but super entertaining and a quick read. You’ll laugh (I actually teared up once, too), and you’ll finish by shaking your head and wondering if it’s 5 stars… the answer is yes, because Debra is amazingly talented and there’s nothing else quite like it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCONTAINS SOME SPOILERS. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM.
I almost stopped reading at 16%. The main character Dick was continuously talking about how hot he was, and how every woman who saw him fell in love. He repeatedly talked about his abs which he had EVERYWHERE. Literally. He had abs on his face, his a$$ cheeks, his penis, his ba!!s. I kid you not!!! My imagination could not make that up. Then he talked about how his "stream of pleasure" was "so forceful it might even chip tiles in the bathroom." It was a very bizarre way to start a book and it came extremely close to being a DNF.
But if you can stick it out to that point, the story does begin to change. Dick meets Hendrix who he tries to keep at a distance. You realize it's because he's afraid of growing attached to her and being hurt. Dick was terribly lonely after losing his mother and had obviously been picked on in the past because of his appearance. So bad in fact, that many of town's residents called him beast and started a rumor that he was a serial killer. I felt sorry for Dick and hoped he and Hendrix would work out. He was a really sweet guy with a big heart. Hendrix didn't allow the town's opinions of Dick to affect her own and she could stand up for herself when needed.
Overall, the romance part of the story was really sweet and for the most part I liked the two main characters. It's probably a 3.5-4.0 stars rating. But the whole abs storyline was just disturbing and quite frankly ridiculous. The cause for the abs is finally explained at the end, but I still found it unbelievable. 1.5-2.0 stars for the abs.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want the unicorns and the 4 years of good xxx, please!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe main reason I actually read this book was the review by Minelli. I stumbled upon her rev via another book I reviewed and she did too. So I checked out her list. Best idea ever! You are Fun btw!!!!
Because of her review I read the book according to her recommendation how to view the male character, Dick. I have never read a more hilarious story. These people! Omg!!!! I fell in love with Dick almost instantly. Poor soul, but actually he is such a strong personality to get through all this by himself. If he were real, I'd tell him how highly I respect him. I loved the story.
The author created amazing characters. I mean, Rex, seriously!!!!!!, what a guy. Nice he got kicked the way he was! - I liked the writing style, the plot, everything.
I can really recommend this book and thanx to Minelli I did.
And now I want unicorns!!!! Please.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I gave it a chance.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReading the first few chapters, my face transitioned back and forth from smirk, one eyebrow raised, chuckle, two eyebrows raised, even a grimace once , but I kept reading. Midway through the book, I was glad I was still reading, found myself smiling and thought I might just write my first review ever depending on how the rest of the book fared. Fair enough. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously hot sex 5 stars
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI want it known that the only reason I'm writing this review is the because of the P.S. at the end of the book!! (only kidding I loved it)
This was a fantastic take on Beauty and the Beast.
I love Debra Anastasia's books as she always manages to get the right balance of love and laughs. Beast was another of her books that once I started I couldn't even stop to make a tea, which from me is a huge compliment.
My favourite line in the story was "Hold out your hands like a baby bat table" I had to reach for the tissues as I was crying with laughter by this line.
Henry is strong and feisty, Dick Dongy is a bodybuilding serial killer and the sex is ridiculously hot.
