About the author

Lynette was born in London, but moved to Burnley, Lancashire when she was a small child. From the tender age of five she was raised by her grandmother and given books to help keep her quiet. Lynette found she had a passion for reading and subsequently started writing once she began school.
Years later, Lynette’s husband was so impressed with her ability to capture children’s imaginations with her stories that he encouraged her love of writing by buying her a laptop in the hope she would write something more substantial. So, with a little push in the right direction, Lynette decided to write a fantasy trilogy and the subject would be something that all children love to read about (and most adults too) – magic!
Her inspiration came from childhood books written by Enid Blyton. The Enchanted Wood and The Faraway Tree were her first real taste of fantasy and the reason why she writes today.
Her first novel, Sinners of Magic, was published in 2012 and is now receiving attention from both London and American film producers. Betrayers of Magic became the second book of the series followed by Defenders of Magic.
Lynette has since had one of her short stories published in America, hitting No 4 in the US bestsellers charts. The Witching Hour is only available via Amazon Kindle.
Lynette now lives in North Lincolnshire with her husband and King Charles spaniel, Ruby. All of her grandchildren are the apple of her eye.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2013Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFinally, I got my hands on this sequel and I must say, it was a tremendous journey to the Kingdom of Nine Winters.
The protagonist, Crystal found her way back to the magical realm after her father fetched her from the mortal world. She and Matt (her special human friend) were at odds before she left, she only wanted what was best for him, and that was his safety.
Back in the Winters Kingdom, Queen Amella was reunited with her daughter, just in time for the Festival of Four Quarters, where there had been the so-called Trial of Apprentices. There she met the brooding, excellent and mysterious mage, Niculmus. Although their first encounter ended up with a kiss and Crystal in tears, things turned differently when they saw each other again as apprentices of Professor Valentine. I actually liked Niculmus... a lot! I liked him way better than Matt who was my first choice in Book 1 (Sinners of Magic).
Crystal's life in the magical realm proved to be quite challenging and full of obstacles. Aside from being able to sense danger or see certain visions, she discovered her new ability to heal using her fingertips. It was fun to see old characters again like Amafar, Voleton, Arhdel, Tremlon, Bridgemear and even Lilura! There were new interesting characters introduced, new allies and villains and mythical creatures. I loved how The Wanderer was initially described: a prisoner like no other, someone to be afraid of.
The kelpies, the firebird, the plainwalker, the dragons and elves, all with striking personalities that kept me interested. There was also the Satyr, and Clump, the Windigo, who was very likeable. Although windigos or changelings were supposed to be monstrous and conniving, I couldn't help but like Clump, who is very different from the rest. He served Crystal well, and when it was time for him to go, I cried alongside the princess.
Elveria, the cunning traitor mage, was every bit of a villain, no wonder I never liked him even in the first book. The twist in the end made me hate him more. Sorry, I know Hate is such a strong word, but when you get to read this book, I assure you, all your emotions will come out. That's how effective Lynette Creswell's storytelling is.
Betrayers of Magic is an enthralling sequel that would bring you to tears, make you sigh, give an evil eye, mutter incomprehensible words, and will have you scream for more. It was definitely worth every penny. This had been a marvelous sequel and I cannot wait for Book 3. I'm giving Betrayers of Magic 5 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, Sinners of Magic, but I LOVED Betrayers of Magic and was immediately immersed in this enthralling magical realm.
Crystal is again transported from the ordinary world to the Kingdom of Nine Winters. There we adventure with her amongst old friends and some fascinating new ones. Her dashing, magic-wielding father, Bridgemear, and her beautiful Elven mother Amella now rule the kingdom and the wicked sorcerer Elveria is still plotting his grasp for power. We meet the mysterious Niculmus, dashing, yes but is there something dark lurking behind that handsome face? A lonely Wanderer appears and we wonder how his story will play out. The tragic shape-changer, Clump is a mis-happen near-ogre by day and ferocious timberwolf by night--is he Crystal's friend or foe? My only regret was that we had so little time with the majestic firebird.
Through a sumptuous use of language Ms. Creswell brings her world vividly to life. Her characters are achingly realistic, facing immediate critical dangers and her plot sweeps along at light-speed. Not so fast, however, that we don't sup deeply of this richly drawn world where "a dark cloud of misery wrap(s) itself around the magician like an unwanted cloak of doom" . . . or water lilies are gem-encrusted . . . and "woodland paths scurrying beneath tall, lush trees remind (us) of long, milk-chocolate fingers."
This is a book for young and old alike. I already bought Defenders of Magic and can't wait to begin reading it.
Most Highly Recommended--all readers of fantasy.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOnce again I was enchanted from start to finish, even more so than Sinners of Magic, if that was possible. I think probably because by now you feel you know the characters personally, thanks to the wonderful descriptive writing of Lynette Creswell.
Some brilliant new characters appear. Watch out for the lovely Windigo, Clump, the best character in the book.
One of my favourites had to be the funny little mining troll, Elwid. I think we've all known an Eiwid in real life and I can bet Lynette has based him on someone she has met in the past hehe. I so loved the description of his clothing.
I didn't think there could be any better characters than Bracken from Sinners of Magic but Lynette delivered, thank you.
So excited to start Defenders of Magic now, although I'll try to read this a little slower as I don't want the book to end.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2014Format: KindleIf Lynette Creswell's first book, "Sinners of Magic" sparked your imagination, then this, her second, will positively set fire to it!
This author has the rare ability to turn fantasy into reality. You may start off "knowing" that a parallel world to our own where Elves, Mages, Witches and other unlikely beings live, isn't a possibility but within a few pages I can guarantee that you'll be a believer!
This book is filled with adventure, betrayal and emotion. Once more, the central character is Crystal, the daughter of an Elvin Queen and a Magician, who has been brought up from infancy in our "ordinary" world. Again she travels to the "Land of Nine Winters", and finds herself embroiled in a quest to save the reputation and indeed life, of her mother.
Along the way she meets Clump, a Windigo.....you'll have to read the book yourself to find out more!
Lynette Creswell justly deserves the plaudits she is now getting. Her third book. "Defenders of Magic" beckons!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cresswell and Nine Winters Strike Again
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWell I enjoyed Sinners of Magic and I have to say that Betrayers of Magic did not disappoint. Such a complicated and diverse collection of characters not all nice, not all nasty, some of them are just in between both and I found myself teetering on one side of the line or other as the book progressed - kept things interesting and kept me turning the pages. The plot thickens around Crystal and becomes more complicated than previously, every time I thought I had it worked out, wouldn't you know it Lynette Cresswell just took a plot turn that made me stop, think and keep reading. Conspiracy and rebellion are in the air and one begins to fear for the Kingdom of Nine Winteres, of course there is one character who stands out from the rest and his whispering campaign is incomparable. She's sneaky that Lynette Cresswell, writes an excellent story, with well developed characters and I do worry what she would get up to if she wasn't writing after meeting her 'bad guys' they really are bad no redeeming qualities whatsoever not even a glimmer of one. Remind me not to get on her wrong side, I think she might well be scarey. Met Clump and that's all I'm saying except I love me some Clump and he's got his own book! The excitement in returning to the Kingdom of Nine Winters has just reinforced, for me, the quality of this writers ability to hold the attention of her readers. Meeting again with some of the characters from Book One, Sinners of Magic, was a total joy and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Looking forward to meeting a few old friends in the book three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseLynnette Creswell is a new author to me, recommended by a friend on facebook. I ordered her books and was tugged into a world of wonderful imagination from the moment I opened the first book until I closed the cover on the last. I was on an incredible roller coaster ride through a land with elves, dwarves, mages, dragons, enchanted forests, mines and more. I had trouble putting these books down being drawn into the ups and downs of Crystal's (the main character) life in two worlds, ours and the immortal world where danger and love abounds.
I would recommend this series for anyone who loves to escape this mundane world that we live in.
I can hardly wait for more stories from this incredible author!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI am one of Lynette Creswell's regular readers. Betrayers of Magic is the second book to Sinners of Magic. This book is fantastic and I would recommend this to anyone from a child to an adult. With many wonderful characters, Lynette brings the world of The Kingdom of 9 Winters to life. It is really enjoyable. Currently I am waiting for the delivery of her third book Defenders of Magic which will conclude the adventure.
If anyone really wants a good read, pick up not only this book, but also Sinners of Magic. You won't be disappointed.
