Blinded by Love: A Contemporary Romance Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 507 ratings

Love always sees the way

Hannah Pascoe is an independent, beautiful young woman, enjoying life and what it has to offer. And right now, that’s a date with the deliciously gorgeous Carrie Kimble. Introduced by friends, Hannah has been daydreaming about this moment, and just when she thinks her life might actually be complete, tragedy strikes.
A terrorist bomb explodes across the street, the café’s window imploding seconds later, and when Hannah wakes up in the hospital, she can’t see.
Dealing with her injury, Hannah has much to overcome, but it’s when she meets Erica, a volunteer support worker at the hospital, that she starts to come to terms with her sight loss and understand that although her life is changed, it’s not over.
With Erica’s help, Hannah gets a place at the rehab centre where Erica is a mentor. Erica is able to help Hannah relearn the confidence to undertake the tasks that most people take for granted. A simple bath or cup of tea is now a very different undertaking, but not impossible, and Hannah is determined to overcome her fears.
But being this close to Erica brings another issue for Hannah, one that she didn’t expect…she’s falling for her.

Claire Highton-Stevenson is a British Indie author. She writes heartwarming, Sapphic romance in contemporary settings. Claire's characters are bold, strong, independent women who love women.

However, she is also known to throw in a mystery or two. Claire likes to move around the tropes at will, and will often bend the rules to create exciting and often unique situations. She's not afraid to tackle darker topics either.

An interesting romance
5 out of 5 stars
An interesting romance
Interesting concept for a romance story, but of course, there is the usual Highton-Stevenson twist. The main character, Hannah, is involved in an explosion that causes severe damage to her eyes. The central part of this novel is how Hannah learns to cope with her disability. The author has captured the nuances of being visually impaired with remarkable clarity and insight.

I can’t express how good this book was, it was an eye opener to how someone adapts to tragedy and learning to see a world with all new ways but actually not seeing with your eyes . Through out the book I kind of sensed about Erica but then I was like no but to find out toward the end I had been right. Really good book and I’m glad I read it. It’s amazing the things we tank for granted. Love the author, she never disappoints

Hannah has a date that goes so wrong it changes her life forever. An terrorist explosion has caused her to be legally blind.
She meets Erica who is a volunteer in the hospital to assist patients to adapt to a new way life. It was so amazing to see the many 2ays Hannah could gain her independence back. The close connection she and Erica feels growing threatens to cost professional issues for Erica. I felt such love for Hannah as she tried to make a new path. Erica has a surprise of her own that really caught me too but makes their story so poignant.
I never tire of a book by this author. She tackled the very real dilemma of losing your eyesight in a thoughtful and loving relationship wrapped in the story. The characters were strong women dealing with what they had in the best way. I think if we felt love more we would see it is all around us. A delightful read that tugged my heart.

SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: character with a disability, disaster, favorite trope, unusual job, author's pick, possibly other categories

Not only was this a lovely romance story, it was a very important education of the transitioning from a seeing person to being significantly visually impaired. I was aware of a few things involved, or some of the struggles, but I learned so much from this novel! I feel that this is an important story for able-bodied readers because it also covered coping methods and tricks that aid in living an everyday life. It also discussed some of the emotional challenges and steps toward acceptance of a sight-impaired lifestyle. Physical limitations can compare to sensory ones, but losing some or all vision would be a greater loss to many people.

The MCs were charming and authentic, the plot was believable, and the barriers to the relationship were realistic. I would be surprised if there was a reader that didn't like - or love - this story. An absolute must read!

If you’re in the mood for a zero angst, sweet romance with two really likable main characters, then I’d most definitely recommend this one. Hannah’s life changed in an instant when shattered glass during a terrorist attack ripped her sight away from her. What followed was a wonderfully detailed account of Hannah learning to live with her new disability with the help of a delightful woman. As Hannah began to learn more about her new world, her feelings for her assistant, Erica could no longer be ignored. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It felt real and honest, with the reader being about to feel Hannah’s emotions from beginning to end. I highly recommend!

Claire worked wonders with this story. A truck, a glance at the door and suddenly Hannah is flying across the room. Laying there with glass from the window and suddenly Hannah's world turns 180 degrees. She is blind! How can that be? Through stages Hannah is admitted to a helpful facility for people who are without sight. Helping individuals to be able to manage things that normal people do without thought. Teaching Hannah is Erica. Together the two ladies manage to find themselves their soul mate. And each other. Insightful, teaching the reader and a great story. Read and Enjoy!

This book was such a wonderful surprise! My first time reading a book by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. The characters and plot were well thought out and enjoyable, and I admit the author caught me flat footed with a plot twist in the best way! Absolutely recommend!

Claire Highton-Stevenson is one of the authors I will auto buy every book that she releases because I just know that I will love the story. The blurb of this one touched me very much and I know before I started it that this is going to be a very emotional read. And I wasn’t wrong.

Right from the start I was pulled into the story. The little details that were no details captivated me. The moment Hannah gets told she has lost her sight touched me very much. I had tears in my eyes. There are so many emotions. And the description how the ears adapted and everything was suddenly so much louder definitely stuck with. All of what I have just described literally happens at the beginning of the book so there was still so much to come. But it just felt so important to me and shows what an amazing writer Claire is.

When Hannah gets to the rehab center she has to learn so many things again. And I was amazed once again how everything was described. So many details were included in the story that helped me to understand what it means not seeing anymore. All the little things we take for granted. And then again all these feelings, like loss, fear, anger, sadness, but also joy. For me it felt like I was there with them because I felt all of these feelings with them.

And then there is Erica, the woman that is there to help Hannah during the most difficult time of her life. I loved how they got closer and especially how Hannah (the former visual person) developed more and more deeper feelings through listening and touching. Another thing that just touched me so much.

I think I could go on and on and add so many more beautiful and emotional things. And wow at some point there is even a little twist I didn’t see coming (al least not totally). But for me this is a story you just have to experience and enjoy for yourself. I somehow feel like I tried to describe how beautiful this story is, but I wasn’t able to give it full justice. To really understand, this story has to be read. What I probably loved the most was how Hannah found hope again. I mean besides how beautiful the story is. It seems I’m repeating myself. ☺️

So far I have love all of Claire’s books. But this story is now my favourite by her. I have read it in one day and for me Claire has written a masterpiece.

Great story, so different from a lot of others, although the break up in the middle was similar to other books but I still think it’s a great read and would recommend it to anybody.

A beautiful and thought out story that captures your heart.
The characters were so believable and you were with them every step of the way, giving you also a insight from being able to see then losing your sight and how to cope and retrain. A little twist at the end. Well done to the author, hope there will be a sequel. Deserves more than 5 stars.
