Blood and Water (Elemental Dragons Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 121 ratings

Dragon markings aren’t supposed to appear on humans… but Hazel has them all over her back.

The government sends Hazel, along with every teenager in the country, to an elemental camp to master their powers before they get out of hand. But when her dragon egg hatches into a rare colour, her element is the least of her problems.

Now under scrutiny, she must make sure that no-one ever finds out about the strange markings on her back. If they do, they will permanently sever the bond with her dragon, leaving him dead and her in eternal agony.

What she doesn’t know is that there are others in a similar predicament to her. All different elements and all different markings, but with one thing in common: a previously extinct dragon wants to eat them to consume their powers.

In a world where political parties divide those who would live with dragons as equals or slaves, she needs to figure out the truth before she is swallowed alive by the dragon hunting her.

Fans of Anne McCaffery and Cordelia Castel will love to delve into this world of elemental powers and plenty of dragons!

I am an author who mainly writes Young Adult Fantasy. However, I am hoping to branch into Sci-Fi, Horror and New Adult.

Books got me through my darkest years as a teenager, and I hope that one day mine will inspire young people to keep going.

I live in the UK with my two cats, Rocky and Mishka.

In Jessica Turnbull's work you will find many young people facing obstacles that are both unfair and dangerous. I loved the dragons as pairs. It seemed like they were a very important part of the couple. I enjoyed reading this extremely.

I liked it, I hated it, then liked it again., etc, etc. Is one of those books some will enjoy but others won’t. Lots of loose ends. I’ll pass on the 2nd book.

    Sorry. No, not sorry.
I tried to read this. It was reading well until the foul language and crudeness. I was really disappointed!
A book doesn't need that to make it a good book. It actually detracts from it.

There's a lot of positives in this book. The author does a decent job balancing a party of characters along with their unique dragon companions.

A particularly persistent love interest was a bit too one-note for me throughout, keeping that perfect score away, but if you want aN enjoyable time with dragons in the mix, you'll like this!

A great read for bonding between siblings and responsibility towards pets. There is an underlying thread of violence. I enjoyed the book and will most likely purchase the next in the series. As a YA read, it's quite 'dark'
