    Das viktorianische London ist der Schauplatz dieser außergewöhnlich guten und spannenden Krimiserie für junge Leser und junggebliebene Erwachsene. Cora Harrison lässt den Leser nun bereits zum fünften Mal teilhaben an den Abenteuern und Ermittlungen von Alfie und seiner Gang.

    "The Body in the Fog" (geschrieben 2012) führt in die Hauptstadt Großbritanniens und erzählt eine faszinierende und aufregende Geschichte. Schauplätze sind die Abwasserkanäle, die unterirdischen Flüsse, die Opiumhöhlen Londons und die Themse selbst, ein geheimnisvoller, gefährlicher Fluss, gerade bei Nacht und Nebel.

    Alfie und Jack finden auf dem Trafalgar Square die Leiche von Jeremy, einem alten Bettler und genau in dem Moment gibt es eine große Explosion, Feuer und Rauch und mitten in diesem Trubel wird die Mitternachtspost geraubt und die Stadt ist in heller Aufregung.

    Dem Anführer der Posträuber fällt ein wichtiges Stück Papier aus der Tasche und er bemerkt, wie Alfie es aufhebt. Dadurch geraten der Junge und seine Freunde in große Gefahr, denn die Räuber versuchen alles, um ihnen diesen Zettel wieder abzunehmen.

    Dazu kommt noch die Frage, wer den alten Bettler getötet hat und ob seine Ermordung mit dem Postraub in Zusammenhang steht, wie Inspektor Denham vermutet.

    Man kann nicht anders, als Seite um Seite zu lesen, voller Neugierde und Spannung wie es Alfie und seiner Gang denn weiter ergeht. Cora Harrison zeichnet ein intensives und absolut glaubwürdiges Bild der Stadt London Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts.

    Alle Personen sind bis in die Nebenfiguren hervorragend charakterisiert und beschrieben. Besonders für Jungs sind diese Bücher lesenswert, allerdings hat die Autorin mit der Figur der Sarah, die als Bedienung in einem Gasthaus arbeitet und Alfie, Sammy, Jack, Tom und Mutsy dem Hund, stets hilfreich zur Seite steht, auch an die Mädchen gedacht, die Spaß an spannenden Krimis haben.

    Auf 179 Seiten entfaltet sich eine unglaublich temporeiche, faszinierende Handlung, die nicht nur junge Leser zu begeistern vermag, sondern auch für Erwachsene sehr gute Unterhaltung bietet.

    Die kurzen Kapitel, packende Cliffhanger und eine einfache, klare Sprache, machen das Buch zu einem idealen Leseerlebnis, bei dem man auch schon mit Grundkenntnissen der englischen Sprache der Handlung sehr gut folgen kann und nicht ständig das Wörterbuch bemühen muss.

The adventures of Alfie and his gang were authentic with regard to the conditions of the time,and will give an insight into the lives of the poorest and abandoned children, forced to tend for themselves. Would recommend them to a wide range of pupils.
