4.5 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

Judah “Hay” El-Bara is a nineteen-year-old sacrificial bridegroom to a harvest goddess long worshipped by his traditionalist parents and community. For him to seed the harvest would be a lie. He isn’t attracted to women. Embracing his sexuality, Hay begins a relationship with a stranger named Buck. But Buck isn’t exactly what he seems. Buck is a mystical vessel of change. Hard work may bring salvation, but harder work can change the world.

If you like shorter stories you'll like this one. I found this author on TikTok and wanted to try some of her writings. It was worth it.

Poor Judah Hayaam El-Bara aka Hay has known his whole life that he would be sacrificed as bridegroom to the Goddess of the Harvest and his job is to impregnate her so that the harvest will be bountiful next year. Problem: he doesn’t like women in that way. He likes men.
The “Traditionalists” believe in rituals which continue the seasons changing and the world basically turning. The “Progressives” on the other hand realize that the world has its own rhythm and it will continue on without human intervention. This is a fight between those two ideologies with some hanky-panky between Beck Nazari aka Buck and Hay. There is also a play on the title and their names. Look for it…so clever!
The author has given us some very imaginative word pictures, among those being: when Hay arrives at the Goddess’ farm watching the workers cut the grass; the attack in the shower; the hayloft scene and others.
There will be surprises, lots of passion, and revelations. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and it comes recommended to those who like lots of explicit M/M with a newbie and a thought-provoking narrative. I give it 4.5 super steamy Stars.

This very intriguing MM romance drew me in with its unusual but well-written interesting plot & covers a extremely traditional society where relationships between consenting males is basically unheard of and/or strongly discouraged but then a male stranger (Beck Nazari aka Buck) with some manipulative plans entices a sacrificial bridegroom (Judah) into a sexual relationship & they are caught by a elder-brother who is not very happy.
There is: drama, some intrigue, traditions, doubts, dissatisfaction, forceful hazing, violence, attempted murder, magic, some steam & contentment.

This book was a little strange but still really good. The way that the characters talk is very stylistic so it might not fit your tastes. I really enjoyed the amount of worldbuilding that occurred in this book even though it is so short. Beck "Buck" and Jonah "Hay" make an interesting pair. The number of scenes though where they don't use lube of any kind was a little off-putting. Overall I enjoyed seeing Hay and Buck change the world they live in for the better. I loved the pacing and it felt like the perfect length to get the story out without making it overly complicated or wordy. I would recommend this book.

This was one fantastic, grab-you-by-the-feels, unconventional, completely unexpected, definitely different, smoking hot, amazing, and totally awesome tale. It may be short in length, but it packed the punch of a much longer story.

A short but very interesting story. Likable characters and an intriguing storyline.

What I like most about Darragha Foster’s books is that I have no idea what I’m getting into and I am totally engaged until the very end. Buck and Hay’s story is unlike anything I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed it. Her stories are short but powerful.
