Butterfly : A Pop Star turned Public Enemy Standalone Novel (Public Enemy Series) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 458 ratings

Drunken brawls. One-night stands.
No-show interviews. Toilet-papering my hoity-toity neighbor’s house.
Insulting my fans. Trashing hotel rooms.
What’s it take to become public enemy number one?
I just told you.
I’ve done all that and more.
My poor conduct got me on the Celebs Behaving Badly list
and ultimately ruined my career.
From the world’s number-one popstar to world’s most hated.
That’s me. Ten Stark.
Go underground, they said. Stay out of the spotlight.
Most importantly, stay out of trouble.
Everyone loves a good comeback story.
For once, I listened.
I met someone who didn’t know my name,
my face, or the bad behavior that defined me.
She taught me I wasn’t who everyone thought I was—everyone including me.
Then someone whispered my name and things got messy, as they always do.
Now I want her back.
I’m not a caterpillar, but a butterfly.
My wings are in full color, not just black and white.
But first, I have to shed my cocoon and fly.

From the Inside Flap

Teaser from Butterfly

"I'll drive you." I decided out loud.
She stopped walking and glanced at the curb. "In what? Your imaginary mobile?"
"My Jeep is a street over." I explained, hitching a thumb over my shoulder.
"I'll pass." she turned and began walking again. "See ya later, Stark!" she yelled over her shoulder.
My name floated on the wind to where I was standing.
She just told me no. The thought bewildered me.
I couldn't just let her walk away. She was a clean slate. A chance to have something I thought I never would again. Anonymity. She would have no expectations, I wouldn't have to be anything or anyone I didn't want to be with her.
At least for a little while.
Well, other than the fact she thought I was a criminal.
I grinned to myself. I definitely couldn't let this one get away.
She was far too entertaining.

Cambria Hebert is a bestselling novelist of more than fifty titles. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a pumpkin spice latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching K drama until her eyes won’t stay open. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chihuahuas (the real bosses of the house).

Cambria has written in many genres, including new adult, sports romance, male/male romance, sci-fi, thriller, suspense, contemporary romance, and young adult. Many of her titles have been translated into foreign languages and have been the recipients of multiple awards.

I love this story. Cambria has made the characters so loveable and relatable.

Violet is young woman who deals with many things that we as women deal with and feel regularly. I love how Ten takes time to figure out what she needs and how to help her though it while being supportive. Ten is the bad boy who is trying to figure out who he is and what he really wants out of life. He definitely doesn't take the best road. But I like how he realized that he doesn't have to be the person everyone is now expecting him to be. Ten see he needs to change his behavior and leans to spread his wing and fly. This book made me laugh out loud several times and i will definitely be picking up Toad next.

*As a person who deals with pain daily that no one can see and doesn't always understand this story hit me right in all the feels. I love how it shows what a person with RA goes through and feels, but also explained that it isn't the same for everyone who deals with RA.
Thank you Cambria for sharing this wonderful story with us.

Cambria Hebert has done it again! Butterfly is sweet, sexy, angsty, and everything you could possibly want in a New Adult romance.

When we first met Ten/Stark I knew he was going to be an interesting character. When he basically tanked his career, it was hilarious, yet you knew it was going to be a long road to recovery for him. Flash forward and he's now working on a recovery tour, and is in New York with his uncle and cousin, trying to atone for his sins and lay low. When he meets Violet who basically has no idea who he is and hates Ten, he's intrigued and wants to get to know her more since he feels no pressure from her.

Watching Ten become Stark and who he was (who he really was) with Violet was amazing. He seemed to relax and be himself and find his love for what he did, and what he wanted again. His connection with Violet was strong and he became so protective of her, especially when he learned about her RA and her struggles. I loved how strong Violet was too. She struggled with her disease and her insecurity within herself, but she got up everyday, and did what she needed to do to survive, and never asked for help. When Stark came into her life, she was shocked that someone like him would want something to do with her, but he kept pushing her way into her life, and she let her walls down and she found comfort in him that she never really had before, except with her brother Vance.

These two truly are stronger together than they are apart, but with Stark keeping something huge from her, you know it's going to blow up at some point. I hated how it all came to light, and what happened to them for a while, but I'm glad that Nate was still around for Violet, and how Stark still found himself and continued on his path. He may have gone down a horrible road before Violet being in his life, but with her help, and reconnecting with his family he truly was brought back to his roots and found his inner peace and found his love again. I loved watching Stark take back control of his career, and fight for his girl in the end.

This was a beautiful love story of redemption, acceptance, and finding your soul mate. I truly adored Stark/Ten and Violet's story and as much as I enjoyed it, I really didn't want it to end, I felt as if they had so much more for us, but the epilogue was amazing. I really enjoyed the secondary characters of Nate and Vance who brought humor into this book, and helped these two see things when they were too stubborn to realize them. If you're looking for a great New Adult romance with a twist, I highly suggest picking up Butterfly by Cambria Hebert today, I couldn't put this book down, I just wish it was a bit longer!

I was really excited for this book but really nervous too. I loved the #Hashtag series so going into this I was nervous about it not living up to that.

I'm happy to say I loved Butterfly just as much. While it still had that college/ young adult feeling you also get a more mature vibe this time. Yes Ten does act out in the beginning but Violet is so mature and I think that's what helped steer this book into another direction . The dynamic between these characters makes this book spectacular! I love Violet and Ten and the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly.

"I think I had to be weak before I could be strong"

I'm glad that Ten had Violet and vice versa. I loved that this wasn't your typical popstar/young adult romance. I think that's what makes Cambria such a great writer, she can take the same type of story and go beyond expectations. I also like how Cambria doesn't drag out conflicts, her characters know what they did wrong and work to resolve it.

Also, love the simplicity of this cover! Can't wait to see what's next. I wouldn't mind getting more Nate.

Beautiful story about growing up, forgiveness, friendship, and love.

Ten and Violet are so sweet together.

Violet is just one regular girl. She's cute and kind. A woman that likes to daydream and thinks about art. Ten is a bad boy, a womanizer, partier. He causes trouble wherever he goes and is named Public Enemy Number 1.

I love how he gives her strength to move on and continue fighting her disease. Ten sees beauty and courage in Violet that nobody, not even she can see and those traits in her bring out the guy that's been hiding under the surface of "Perfect Ten", pop star public wants him to be.

Supporting characters are amazing and I would love to see more of them, but also more of Ten and Violet. How is their life after his comeback? How is Vi handling her RA?

I hope we'll see more of Public Enemy squad!

If you don't know, Cambria Hebert is one of the Queens of College Romances for me. I love her #Hashtag series so hard!! I miss my babies tbh. So when I saw she was a writing another college romance, I was literally over the moon, even more so when she blessed me with an ARC, ahhh <3 Thank you soooo much Cambria!

I could not have been more excited to jumped right in, so I did. The Prologue got me feeling some type of way about the hero, a not so good one. Let's face it though, I'm a big fan-girl, I have adored my idol for years on end and I guess I totally read that in the point of view of a die hard fan so you could say I was a bit biased.
So yeah, first impressions of hero, below zero I guess. BUT that view didn't last long, as soon as the present story started, my feelings started to change because right from the start you start seeing who Ten really is and the hardships he went through because of his fame. Did he go about things the right way? Well of course not, that's why he became Public Enemy #1. But you can see that it's not easy to not have any privacy, to be treated as an object and not as a person and Ten just wanted out. He did the unthinkable though and now he had to work for a comeback if he had any hopes of getting his career back on track.

He's kind of on a promotional tour, giving speeches about what NOT TO DO as a celebrity, trying to better his image. The last speech on said tour is at Blaylock University's Music Department, where his uncle is head of department and where his cousin,Nate, studies.

Side note: Can I just say that I freaking loved Nate?! I hope he gets a book in the future! It would be so much fun though.

Another attendee of Blaylock University is Violet, Violet who's gay brother is die hard fan of Ten and talks about him non-stop, but Vi pays no attention, she could care less about Ten, she doesn't even know what he looks like. All she cares about is her art and making it through the day. Can you see where did is going? I'm sure you can conjure up some good theories.

After Ten's speech he finds himself literally running away from some fans and he finds shelter at an Art Gallery, that's where he meets Violet. They instantly share something, I don't know if I'd call it a connection but it's definitely a certain spark.

I really enjoyed these two, their initial banter, their cute and sweet interactions, and then their sexy times. I laughed, swooned and faned myself all over this book. It was so good!

I'm not sure my feelings for a character have changed so drastically before. But how can someone hate this cute muffin? How?! He's so gentle and lovable! Like, I cannot get over how sweet and overall perfect he was with Violet. Best Book Boyfriend material right there!!

This is also a book about character development, and god was it beautiful to read the changes in Ten's attitude, yes attitude, because he was always Stark, he just had his true beautiful self suppressed by the mess that was his life/career. He was still a caterpillar waiting to turn into a butterfly, and boy did he turn into a beautiful one.

Suffice to say, I loved this book.

First off, thank you Cambria for another great book.
I love the hashtag series, it's one of my go to's when I'm not able to process new information. I can just pick any of them up and lose myself without worrying if I'll remember anything after.
Butterfly is a wonderfully written and lovely story. I can't recommend it highly enough.
This book hit me right in the feels! In want to thank you for explaining some of the struggles people with "invisible illnesses" (like RA) have. I have Lyme Disease and hip dysplasia and even though the symptoms and side effects from medication can be horrible most days, the thing that gets to me the most, is when people, especially people you thought of as close, doubt that the struggle is real. So this really hit me personally, and I really hope i can find someone who is as wonderful as you made Ten. Thank you.
