    I really enjoyed this story, which wittily balances funny/sad in the same way as her previous book, "Kitty."

    For anyone who grew up in the 60s, the details are what makes this so enjoyable -- like the dull still-life subjects in art class, the cosy privacy of the 2nd-class railway compartment, and the daft fancy lady printed on those brown paper sanitary towel disposal bags.

    The storyline and illustrations capture so much of what a girl's everyday life was like back then, including the bloke muttering "Cheer up love, it might never happen"!
