About the author

I'm a Londoner, though I haven't lived there for many years. But if you're born a Londoner you're always a Londoner. And what could be better than growing up in London in the 60s? The clubs, the live music, the shops - all now passed into legend.
I got fed up with school and left before taking my A levels. Over the next few years I had lots of jobs - measuring fabric in Jones and Higgins in Peckham, cleaning chalets at Butlins Bognor Regis, even a short stint in the Civil Service. Then I decided it was time to grow up, so I went to Liverpool to train as a teacher. I loved life at University, but I wasn't so keen on teaching, so I switched to adult education, which suited me fine.
Shortly after I met my husband we moved to Shropshire, where we lived on the side of a hill with a series of rescued Afghan Hounds, a couple of small terriers, some cats, some birds, some fish, and an iguana called Spike.
A few years ago we decided to move to Devon. My husband is a Devonian, and had always wanted to come home. And me... I wanted to live near the sea. So now we are settled here in South Devon, a twenty minute stroll from the beach. And I love it!
My writing:
I've always loved telling stories. Even when I was barely old enough to write I could spin a yarn. I tried writing thrillers and murder mysteries - but it always seemed that whatever I tried to write, it would turn into a romance. And after all, what's wrong with romance? Life's serious enough - we all need a little escapism with a happy ending to cheer us up! So in the end I decided to dump the other stuff and focus on the romance.
Back in the day, I wrote twenty-five novels which were published by Mills&Boon - some of them are still available as e-books direct from M&B. Then I took a long gap doing other things - but when I retired I found my love of writing again. Initially I published three books myself, which you will be able to see on my website.
But I knew that if I could find an established publisher I could reach more readers. Step in Joffe Books. They were at the top of my list, so I was delighted when they picked up the first novel I sent them. To quote from the best romantic movie of all time, Casablanca, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2015What a pleasure it was to read about Kat & Javier. The hero, Javier, hosts a function on his super yacht. One of the waitresses catches his attention. That would be Kat, the heroine. He later finds her hiding in his dressing room. When he confronts her, it's so obvious that she's lying about her name and her reasons for being a stowaway, that instead of promptly putting her ashore, he puts her to work on his yacht, doing cleaning & polishing, or serving his mega-rich guests! She got on with it, but she was certainly no pushover. This romance worked on so many levels, but mainly because I think it was so obvious that Javier needed Kat in his life. She was like a breath of fresh air blowing into his life. She was friendly, witty & gutsy. She floored him figuratively & literally! It was refreshing to read about a heroine capable of doing martial arts or scuba diving, while being so sweet that she charmed all the staff on the boat, including the head of security! It also made a nice change to read about a heroine who was not physically flawless. Javier was of course gorgeous & arrogant, but in his dealings with one bratty, female guest - who had a major crush on him & frequently caused ugly scenes - he was firm, yet kind, so.. he was not a jerk. The interactions between the 2 main characters were fantastic. Kat had such a cute personality & a quick wit. And Javier just loved it. Reading their story was a wonderful escape..
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2016I've read countless romances over the years, so I tend to be a bit cynical when it comes to reading anything new. So, I was pleasantly surprised by McCarthy's contribution of "Chasing Stars." Was there anything ground-breaking? No, but it was engaging and well-written. Kat is a refreshingly modern woman who balances feistiness with kindness and bravado with vulnerability. Javier is tall, dark, handsome and aloof, but doesn't display the misogynistic qualities like so many men in this genre. He is trusting, sensitive, smart, sexy and modern. The intimate scenes are scintillating while still being subtle. A captivating read that doesn't keep you up all night!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story of the rich and glam
Good solid story of mistaken identity. I did like the character of Kat she was a martial arts expert and a bit of a female Indiana Jones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story
Loved every thing about this book. The changing scenarios, the exotic locations and the cast of characters made this a compelling read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humour aboard
I've never read any of this author before and I'm really enjoying her style. The women are very spicy and can hold their own in a battle of wits. The male is of course very handsome and everything about him is to die for(why did I never meet a man like this) I liked the humour by both parties,it was slick and had you suppressing a giggle.I reckon that it would suit those that like a light easy to read book that has a lot going for it.
