CANDY CANE LANE: A Christmas Valley Romance, Book 2 (Christmas Valley Romances) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

CANDY CANE LANE (A Christmas Valley Romance, Book 2)(51,231 words)

Candy canes and lighted lanes...

Nothing like a seven-year-old’s school assignment to shake things up. Single mom Esme Taylor and her son Arran just moved from the city, where talking to strangers was a no-no. Still, here in Christmas Valley it should be safe for Arran to interview a neighbor they haven’t met yet, right?

The psychic next door is reluctant, but she agrees because Esme and Arran arrive toting a box of home-baked cookies. What woman who can’t cook would turn away a new neighbor who can?

As it happens, psychic Olivia Strangewayes is also the mother of former NFL Stallions quarterback, Murph O’Donnell. Esme doesn’t care about football, but even she can appreciate a hot guy when she sees one.

It’s not that Murph isn’t attracted to Esme, but it’ll be a cold day on Candy Cane Lane before he falls for the daughter of the surgeon he holds responsible for never being able to get back in the game.

It’s a real Christmas pickle–Arran is angry at Murph, Murph’s brain is sending mixed messages to his heart about Esme, and Esme? Well, Esme didn’t expect to fall for a guy who hates her father and engages in a battle of wills with her son.

It’s the ultimate standoff! Can a persistent seven-year-old who loves Christmas be the glue that binds them all together?

Ann Simas lives in Oregon, but she is a Colorado girl at heart, having grown up in the Rocky Mountains. She has been an avid reader since childhood and penned her first fiction "book" in high school. She particularly likes to write mystery/suspense/thriller with a love story and paranormal or supernatural elements. She is a three-time RWA Golden Heart Finalist. Simas currently has 42 books in print. All are available in both paperback and in ebook format.

An award-winning watercolorist and a budding photographer, Ann also enjoys needlework and gardening in her spare time. She is her family's "genealogist" and has been blessed with the opportunity to conduct first-hand research in Italy for both her writing and her family tree. The genealogy research from decade's old documents in Italian, she says, has been a supreme but gratifying challenge.

Esme Taylor and her son Arran moved from the city to Christmas Valley. When Arran gets a school assignment to interview “a stranger” he decides to interview a neighbor he hasn’t met yet. Olivia Strangewayes is a Physic who happens to have a single son. She agrees to the interview.
Murphy O’Donnell is a former Quarterback for The Stallions and a 2 time Superbowl champ. When a drunk driver hits the car he and his friends are in he has to have surgery to repair his arm. After the surgery he finds that he can’t throw a football. He blames the surgeon.
Esme and Murphy find they are attracted to each other and Arran likes him a lot. When Arran announces that his Grandfather is a fan and tells Murphy his name is Fergus Sullivan (the surgeon who operated on his arm), he storms out of the house.
I read this book in one sitting. I found it to be a sweet well written story with strong character development. Christmas Valley is a place that I wish I lived in. Ann Simas is an author that I will strongly recommend reading.

First, I would like to thank Ann Simas for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
I laughed when Arran got so excited his Mom was going to make three kinds of cookies. He thought there was going to be a party! The funny part was his Mom wanted to test out their new kitchen!!
He and his Mom were new to the area and were going door to door introducing themselves and giving out cookies to their new neighbors. One of Arran’s assignments was to pick a stranger to interview. Ironically, he picked old Livvy Strangeways. Who was a hard lady to crack. But, behind closed doors she loved the cookies the mother made for her.
I thought it was cute how Arran was so excited about his school project. So excited he dreamed about being a Journalist one day. However, his Mom squashed his dreams. He went back to his original dream of archeology.
One thing Arran learned that I thought was pretty neat was Livvy was a physic. It was passed down by her maternal grandmother.
Candy Cane Lane by Ann Simas is a book for every one of Ann’s readers who never met a candy cane they didn’t love! One of my fave quotes in the book was written by Buddy the Elf “ We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.”

I really enjoyed this book by new to me author Ann Simas. Emse's son is quite intelligent for a 7 year old and speaks his mind, sometimes without asking for permission first. Esme and her son moved to Christmas Valley, their first real home (not an apartment). His assignment for school is to interview a stranger. This is what starts a comedic yet HEA event for Esme and her neighbor's son, Murphy, an ex quarterback. With the help of his mother Livvy, and her father, Fergus, love is in the air.

Single mom Esme Taylor and her seven year old son Arran have just moved into Christmas Valley to start over. Arron gets a school project he is to talk to and interview a stranger they decide on their neighbor across the street. Psychic Olivia Strangewayes is their neighbor they end up becoming friends. Olivia's son though is another matter former NFL Stallions quarterback, Murph O’Donnell blames Esme's father for him not being in the NFL any longer. After Murph was in an accident and Fergus Sullivan operated and Murph could not toss the ball any longer he blamed Fergus and four years later he can not let go of his hurt. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how each of these people come together and change in their own ways. I read this book through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I would recommend this book.

Candy Cane Lane is a stirring romance that is certain to make your hear smile this holiday season.

Esme and her son Arran move to to Christmas Valley in order to make a fresh start, but finding love was the last thing she ever expected. So when Arran is given the school assignment of interviewing a stranger Esme accompanies him the their eccentric neighbor, Mrs. Strangeaways's home. Esme is unprepared for the spark she feels towards Mrs. Strangeways son, Murph and she's certain he felt it too. Problem is, Murph blames Esme's father for ending his football career and the mere mention of the man's name sends Murph over the edge. Can Murph find forgivness and will Esme find room in her heart to let him in?

Candy Cane Lane is a wonderfully written, magical Christmas story about overcoming ones past to find happiness in the future. The characters are vibrant and alive and readers will easily feel a connection with them. I was inspired by the transformations that Esme's and Murph's characters undergo which allows compassion and love into their lives. This heartwarming holiday book is certain to become a holiday favorite.

I highly recommend picking up a copy.
