Calico and Silk (The Lancashire Cotton Saga Book 3) Kindle Edition
The fates of three women collide as they strive to secure their futures…
1880, Lancashire, England
After years of hardship following the American Civil War, Gorbydale’s cotton mills are back in production. Although the town’s fortune still hangs in the balance, the residents are cautiously hopeful.
Amid the turbulence, three women hailing from Gorbydale continue to build their lives.
Now the mother of three children, Jessie Overdale divides her time between planning for their futures, supporting her husband — the heir to the Invincible Mill — and managing the family’s finances.
A qualified doctor, Honora Darwen works long hours at the New York Hospital for Indigent Women and Children, treating the city’s poorest inhabitants. However, she longs to return to the slums of Manchester to continue her late father’s work.
Once a maid to the Overdales, Dolly Jacques has settled into a comfortable life as the wife of a Louisiana plantation owner, and helps to manage the business. But when she receives an ominous letter, she fears that her new happiness may be under threat.
As twists of fate draw the three women back into each other’s orbit, it seems that their futures are destined to interweave…
CALICO AND SILK is the third book in The Lancashire Cotton Saga: a thrilling historical romance novel, spanning two continents, with strong-willed heroines at its heart.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2021I was so sad to hear about the author’s passing. I loved all the books in this series and can only imagine what other wonderful stories she had yet to tell.
Jessie, Robert, Matt, and Dolly became old acquaintances of mine. Their miseries and triumphs, their intelligence, and their flaws kept me turning the pages.
This last installment was so charming. There was some grief, but it all ended on a happy note. It was bittersweet to have to say goodbye to such beloved characters.
I highly recommend this series to all historical fiction lovers! Very well written and researched. Great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021I didn't write a review of the first 2 books, saving it for the end since I'm often disappointed in at least 1 of the 3 books. That didn't happen with this far reaching trilogy. Ranging between Victorian England and America during the civil war, the books have wonderful characters that show the strength of the 3 female main protagonists. Anyone interested in that time period would enjoy the books.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2021The final book in a good trilogy. Covers several Irish families beginning in Ireland when the American Civil War begins, continuing on several generations. Easy to read, characters who come to life and a fair amount of history, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
I loved this third book that continued the family saga. Characters who sprang from the pages, their own stories interacting with the communities and families alike. I will miss them and wish that they could have continued in future books.
The author, Christine Evans has sadly died. She has left a fine legacy in her saga.
