- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2022While it may not be the the power that once protected a worldwide empire from all comers, the Royal Navy still packs a punch despite shortages of everything, but guts and skill. I enjoyed this story as the author captures the cultural perspective along with creating interesting characters, with just enough of Tom Clancy's ability to make technical details readable, without sounding like a manual. Great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2023Not a bad read but difficult at times to follow. Good action. The language was also somewhat hard to follow but good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2022I had anticipated a flying storyline but was unprepared for helicopters. I have flown on them many times as a passenger. This story gave me a lot of information about flying one in war action
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2022Very realistic perspective on the real costs of war. Characters are human and the world of ship life is revealed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2021in spite of the authors terrible habit of using three letter idioms for descriptions. The story was full of them: he must have been making a joke of the story as he used three capital letter descriptors for everything . FUBAR and MANOSEWHRE.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2022Too much British language. Hard to understand a lot of the material in the book. It is nice to read it on a device that can look up the meaning for many of the words.

2.0 out of 5 stars ok. but lacks a flow
An ok read but lacks a real flow and clarity , at times repeating or just too slow to really be an enjoyable read

5.0 out of 5 stars World War II at Sea in a Carrier
This is a very vivid description of war on a carrier and the aircraft that flew from her. It pictures the horrendous conditions and the casualties that are suffered in the circumstances. t covers the pressures faced by the Captain and his crew both at sea and on land. Excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling story
A thrilling story. Wingham is a skilled writer, but it would be helpful for the many readers who do not have a naval background if he would care to add a glossar of the many used abbreviations and acronyms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story line, shows life at sea during war
The descriptive words from the author gave this story gave an in-depth feeling of what people struggle with in war and atrocious conditions both with machinery and weather. An interesting read, will continue reading this series of books
