Though I usually write cozy mysteries, sometimes poems come at me like an attacking tiger and I must write them down. With cats as a central context of my daily life, it's only natural that many of those poems have a feline theme. Who doesn't wonder what cats think, why they do what they do? In this collection, I celebrate the adoption of a new cat and the loss of an old one; revel in the greatness of volunteering, fostering and advocating for those whose only voice speaks in meows; and speculate what being a cat truly means.  Join me for this personal vision of life in the cat lane.

Cat Writer Mollie Hunt is the award-winning author of two cozy series: the Crazy Cat Lady Mysteries featuring a sixty-something cat shelter volunteer who finds more trouble than a cat in catnip, and the Tenth Life Paranormal Mysteries involving a ghost cat. Her Cat Seasons Sci-Fantasy Tetralogy presents extraordinary cats saving the world. She recently released a COVID memoir which she calls, "a tale of a plague and politics, of depression and inspiration, and an ode to the very real and healing presence of cats." In her spare time, she pens a bit of cat poetry as well.

Mollie is a member of the Oregon Writers’ Colony, Sisters in Crime, the Cat Writers’ Association, Willamette Writers, and Northwest Independent Writers Association (NIWA). She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and a varying number of cats. Like her cat lady character, she is a grateful shelter volunteer.

    Each of the poems in this collection give a special glimpse into the lives of cats. My favorites are "Two" (you always remember your first cat); "Do Cats Dream?" (I loved the images of what those nocturnal muses might be); and "Tyler" and "Shasta" which I can tell were both based on real cats. All cat lovers will enjoy this collection.

    I would tell you what my favorite poems in this collection were, but I can’t. I loaned it to my mum. Then I loaned it to my friend. Then I put it somewhere ready to loan to someone else. Then I lost it. My copy of Cat Poems by Mollie Hunt is now well-travelled, well-loved and well-read. The paperback is as nice to hold as it is to read. The cats are delightful and so, so very relatable. I wished I could meet them in the flesh, but meeting them in words is a pleasure and a treasure. Just wish I knew where my treasure of a little book had gone.

    Disclosure: I already love Mollie Hunt’s Cat Mysteries, so how could I resist purchasing her poems?
