Can a second chance at love heal both their wounds?

When his new physical therapist turns out to be the same man he left twelve years ago, Linc feels the first stirrings of hope. He never forgot Kent, and he wants the chance to prove it.

Kent knows love doesn’t last. After Linc left without saying goodbye, Kent resolved never to fall in love again. When Linc shows up at his clinic looking more gorgeous than ever, Kent is determined to keep his distance. But his heart has other ideas—it never fell out of love in the first place.

Back in each other’s arms, their love burns hotter than ever before. When secrets threaten to tear them apart, Kent has to decide whether it’s something they can mend... or if he’s better off alone.

Second chance romances have to be some of my favorite books to read. There’s just something about healing the hurt and finding your way back to your soulmate that just gets to me. Linc and Kent are the perfect example of a couple who has many obstacles in their way but with the power of their love, they are still able to find their happily ever after. I look forward to reading Dylan’s book. This review is an unbiased and honest reflection of my thoughts after reading an advanced readers copy.

I haven't yet read the first book in this series, but I wasn't lost when reading the second since the characters were introduced (rather re-introduced) in a way that did not detract from the primary characters and their story. I would say this is a stand alone series for that reason. Although, I loved this book so much that I will be going back and reading the first one. I am also happy to learn that Dylan (a secondary character in this book), Linc's friend who was helping him when he was recovering, will be getting his own story soon.

Now, when it comes to second chance tropes, it can be a hit or miss for me. However, it still remains one of my absolute favorites when it is done right, and this book was done right. I absolutely loved the writing style because the author took time to include individual character development for both Linc and Kent. Often times, only one character is given that chance. I so appreciated that we got to learn more about both of the characters, and the dual POV really helped with that.

I also liked that the author didn't minimize their romance when they were young. Yes, 12 years have passed and yes they both have experienced their own journeys as adults. But, I like that Kent and Linc were able to find their way back to each other through friendship, albeit in a professional dynamic at first with Kent being Linc's physical therapist, but it gradually blossomed into them rekindling their romance again. Of course there was a misunderstanding that took place that paused things a bit, but it was resolved in a way that had both characters accounting for their part in it, which is something that I loved seeing.

I will definitely plan on reading the next and last installment of this trilogy with Dylan's story. If you're thinking about reading this series, don't hesitate, just do it!

Wow, I really feel like the odd one out here, considering other reviews!

The blurb of this book looked very promising and that's the reason why I picked it up, not having read the first book in this series. Also, the reviews and ratings of the first book drew me over the line to ask for an ARC.

Though the writing was good and easy to read, to me the story itself was just ok. It didn't captivate me or draw me in like I expected. Party because I didn't really feel a strong connection to neither Linc, nor Kent, and I'm so not into reading about baking! It's even close to annoying when I have to read about how much an MC loves baking. I usually avoid books with cooking, baking, chefs etc.
So I didn't like where the story was going when Linc rediscovered his love for baking. I skimmed almost all the baking-parts and maybe that's part of why I lost connection with Linc and Kent.
So, in the end, my rating is based on the fact that I did finish the book, the story was just ok, and I always rate at least 2 stars because of the effort an author puts into writing a story, which should always be rewarded, to my opinion.

Linc is recovering from a brutal attack from when he was stationed in Afghanistan. The shelling killed members of his team and severely injured his leg. It was a minor miracle he didn’t have it amputated. He is in pain and deeply depressed, staying at his friend’s Inn. Ryan, the owner, has a kind heart and is trying to help the stubborn Sargent to heal. He forces Linc to start physical therapy which he has been avoiding.

Kent was Linc’s love interest before he joined the army. When Linc goes to his much-needed therapy, he is shocked to find Kent has been assigned to his case. Kent is equally stunned but remains professional and tries not to appear too rattled. While I appreciated how competent and caring Kent was, for me the physical therapy segments were a tad drawn out and technical, which honestly did not hold my interest. They were extremely realistic based on my own experiences but they seemed to slow the flow of the book.

The two men are reconnecting and each of them realizes they still harbor feelings for each other. Linc having been away for such an extended period of time made their intense reunion feel like instalove. The characters were not fully fleshed out to make me feel they had a true relationship which dimmed the overall experience I had with this story. I never really warmed to Linc. He was having such a pity party and I know he suffered a great loss but he was so inconsiderate and juvenile at times.

What I loved about the book was Linc’s amazing support system and all the wonderful baking with the luscious descriptions that was constantly happening. I felt I gained a pound or two just reading about these treats. Kent was very likable and definitely worth getting to know.

If you enjoy a light read with a sweet epilogue, I think you should give this second chance tale a try. Happy Reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet second chance romance.

A sweet second chance romance. Linc just wants a quiet existance, to be left alone to lick his wounds. He doesn't realise what's been missing from his life is Kent, his teenage love.

Linc is trying to get over a tragedy. When Kent appears once again, the story begins to build a lovely picture their developing relationship, whilst also giving more details of their past together.

The inevitable twists and turns mean the path to true love doesn’t run too smoothly, but the end result is worth it. A nice read from an author I haven’t read before. It's well written and, although book two of a series, I think it can be read as a standalone. 3 and a half stars.
