The Chessboard Spies (The Stephen Fletcher Thriller series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 248 ratings

It’s a race against time in this heart-racing Cold War thriller! Perfect for fans of Len Deighton, John Le Carre, Tom Clancy and Ian Fleming.

To win the war you must first outsmart your opponent…

Istanbul, 1968

In the Middle East, the undercurrents between the two powers on either side of the Iron Curtain have become issues in which their agents fight with any weapon, and the score is not kept.

It is a part of the world where political intrigues and subterfuges bubble to the surface, threatening to erupt at any moment.

The battle between East and West is never-ending, and favour is currently in the Soviets’ corner.

Along with his colleagues, it is British Agent Stephen Fletcher’s job to swing the pendulum back to the Western corner.

And to do so he must follow his opponents across the chessboard of the Middle East in a race to outwit a deadly foe…

THE CHESSBOARD SPIES is the third classic international Cold War mystery in the Stephen Fletcher espionage thrillers series: intriguing political double-dealing spread over Europe and the Middle East.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stephen Fletcher series does not disappoint

Reading what was a contemporary novel many years ago provides an interesting commentary of the times. The battles, warm and cold, in this book have not really gone away and provide from context for the politics of the Near East - even today.

While I still feel Fletcher is an unknown personality, we see something of his human fragility in this book.

Definitely worth reading the series in order.

A little complex with many characters involved, but carries you along with the plot. Worth reading in a long session.
