Children Of Fiends: Book 2 of the Of Sudden Origin saga Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 62 ratings

Journey into the heart of evolution's unrelenting dance in "Children of Fiends," the riveting second installment of the "Of Sudden Origin Series" by C Chase Harwood.

Through the ages, nature has edited and rewritten its life forms, discarding ancient designs in favor of new ones. From Africanus to Sapiens, the lineage of humanity has risen and fallen. But now, a new contender steps onto the stage—Telepathus. As the echoes of past civilizations fade, Sapiens questions its place in a world where change is the only constant.

A decade has elapsed since the onset of FNDz, reshaping the world and testing humanity's endurance. In the wake of North America's near-extinction struggle, a tenuous existence prevails. The remnants of America seclude themselves, living with the aftermath of infection. Beyond the fortified Terminus wall, a different breed of humanity emerges, gaining strength with each passing day.

On the Delmarva peninsula, a rogue faction led by an amoral figurehead carves out their own nation, defying the chaos that surrounds them. As a team of Northern explorers sets out on a perilous mission, they inadvertently awaken the burgeoning new species, revealing the ruthless competition that Sapiens truly faces.

In this spellbinding tale, "Children of Fiends" invites you to grapple with the complexities of evolution and humanity's role in shaping the future. With moral dilemmas, unforeseen alliances, and a world teetering on the brink, Harwood masterfully weaves a narrative that forces us to confront the very essence of our existence. Join this enthralling expedition into the heart of darkness, where the battle for supremacy unfolds against a backdrop of change, challenge, and the relentless passage of time.

CHILDREN OF FIENDS by C. Chase Harwood

"In the Zombie sub-genre, what new could be imagined? C. Chase Harwood accomplished exactly that-a new framework for this particular tapped-out fictional mine. Like its predecessor, OF SUDDEN ORIGIN, CHILDREN OF FIENDS is literate, articulate, horror. There is sound scientific basis for the mutations, from the initial genetically engineered cause right up through the various evolutionary outcomes. Yet is also thoroughly humanized and individualized, and like OF SUDDEN ORIGIN, CHILDREN OF FIENDS is just a pleasure to read." - Mallory Heart Reviews

From the Author

The Of Sudden Origin saga is currently 2 serialized tetralogies. The first book of the first series is titled, Of Sudden Origin - Part 1 The Exodus Is Over and is followed by three more parts. The entire series can also be purchased (and you'll save a few bucks) as an Omnibus version (also available in paperback). The second series is titled Children Of Fiends; the first book being Children Of Fiends - Part 1 Winter Is Passing. This entire series can also be had (for a bargain) as this Omnibus version (also available in paperback). A third series, titled, Hostile Intent, is in the pipeline.
I have a wonderful time building my dense stories. My style as a writer is to let the tale come to me rather than outline and plot. As an author, I get to enjoy the same delight as the reader: as a story unfolds, revealing its twists and turns, unearthing feelings and teasing the mind by touching the senses, experiences abound until a satisfying resolution presents itself. I am a literary adrenaline junky. It is my job to build your curiosity, tease your senses and keep you on the edge of your seat. Thank you in advance for buying one of my books. By doing so you are adding a relentless adventure to the pantheon of your favorite reading experiences. Read on and enjoy.

C. Chase Harwood (aka Chris) made a career in Hollywood, decorating sets for such hits as THE BIG BANG THEORY and WILL & GRACE before turning his passion for storytelling into clicks on a keyboard. Between assaults on the walls of the screenwriting world, he chose to experiment with prose and found a fondness for Action-Adventure, particularly in the form of Sci-Fi and the Paranormal. Within that framework, he gets to explore the countless ways that humans interact while under duress. "Life is all the more lived when the consequences are high. When told as a tale it can be quite a page-turner," says Harwood. He lives in Los Angeles with his costume designer wife and young boy girl twins.

Nightmares! Mr. Harwood's ability to describe the terror within the characters is incredible. My heart raced and I had several nightmares. A great, tense adventure, and the uncertain fate of the characters kept me glued to my screen! Of course, the great ending leaves me screaming, "When is Book 3 coming out!!!" As a new science fiction reader, I'm hooked!

Hello, this is another great story. I wish the author would do a 1.5 so we could find out what happened to the wonderful characters in the first story. Great characters in the second story as well. Very well written. Thanks.

What a great adventure. A pilgrimage across a United States inhabited by the Children of the Fiends who evolved and consumed America in the first book. Conflict between colonies of the survivors of the events of the first book. Hair raising non stop adventure. I couldn't put it down.

Another epic story from C. Chase Harwood. Picks up some years after "Of Sudden Origin" left off with new charcters you'll love, and some you'll love to hate. With the children of Fiends, Mr. Harwood has created a new class of chacters that are truly unique to the genre and who'll definitely keep you up at night. Hard to put down.

This was not a bad book. I was disappointed because I bought it based on book one of the series. The only part of book one that is in this book are the infected. I feel like their was a bait and switch. If I rated this book as a stand alone, I would give it 3.5 stars.

Having read the prequel, "Of Sudden Origin", I was prepared to be creeped out, but the author outdid himself. There are characters here that you'll love and there are characters here that you just hope get crushed! And there are themes woven throughout that will blow your mind. Enjoy...

This book was every bit as good as the first one. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This book continues where the first one left off a couple years later. I love some of the new characters and loved to hate the other ones. It was just as hair raising as the first one with the possibility of a fiend around every corner or even worse a child of the fiends and with groups of survivors going as far as to fight against each other they had to be careful of even other people. The descriptions of the environments, the shoot outs, and of the up close and personal fights were so well written I could easily imagine it happening right in front of me. All in all this was a fantastic book just like the first one and I would highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Really hard to describe this book except its some sort of crazy hybrid of The Maze Runner Scorch Trials and Army of the Dead with a hint of Planet of the Apes not because of apes (although there is some apes in it for a moment) but it just feels like the newer Planet of the Apes franchise with mutant Zombie people..would HIGHLY recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Nonstop action.

As per the first novel (Of Sudden Origin), this is nonstop action from start to finish. It kept me engaged from the beginning to end. Although, different characters from the first book - it looks into a horrific future with a world full of fiends.

    Highly recommend 👌
