WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS
Fiction has the power to change lives.
Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.
But there are messages within the messages.
There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.
Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.
This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.
THE LOWDOWN
Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.
In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.
In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2015Once again, C. G. Cooper has given us a look at the back-story of one of the main characters in the Corps Justice universe, this time it is MSgt Willy Trent. This is a 25-page short story that takes you back to a pivotal time in a young man's life, showing the forces that guided him and shaped him to become the man he is today. Carlos Cooper possesses that rare ability to make us genuinely care about his characters and compare them to folks we have known in our own past. If you are not familiar with C. G. Cooper's work, I heartily recommend his short stories, "God-Speed" and "Running", along with the first Corps Justice box set. I would also be remiss in not recommending the Benjamin Dragon novels, which are geared toward younger readers. C. G. Cooper is an excellent author, his insight into the psyche of his characters show their growth and relationships with others in a compelling way. I have purchased every one of C. G. Cooper's books and used many parts of them as examples for the beginning English students in my Adult Education classes.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2015If you have not been following author Carlos G. Cooper with his Marine Corps characters and fast moving plots, you should be! In Chosen, Carlos Cooper has provided us with insight to one of his coolest characters in a short novella. All C. G . Cooper's characters are special in different ways for different reasons. Chosen shows a peek into the "why" with Willy Trent. Carlos G. Cooper's Corp Justice series deals with real issues and he is a master issue solver! His books are thrilling and will keep you wondering what will happen next. His characters are talented and even the bad guys are interesting. All Coopers books are different and written as well if not better than all my favorite Marine Corps writers, and I have read them all. (Review by Kathryn Andresen)
Carlos Cooper also writes amazing books for children which are a completely different genre. Look up Benjamin Dragon by C G Cooper and you will enjoy the story as much as your children will!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2017"Never." Short prequel with a patriotic mix comprising one of America's favorite sport pastimes together with a helping hand from a member of the Marine Corp. A brief but enjoyable story with eminently likable characters. Very good book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2015C.G. Cooper has a way of drawing you into the web of his Corps Justice Series. And one of those ways is by presenting characters that, while sometimes larger than life, everyone can relate to. Especially if you just happen to be a Marine (there are no ex-Marines, remember).
In this short story, we learn more about MSGT Willy Trent & just what circumstances brought him to become a Marine. And a touching story it is. A young man full of pride & promise, living an idyllic if not altogether comfortable lifestyle. How just as his life's greatest moment approaches, tragedy strikes and he's left to make the most important decision of his life on his own.
This story left me on the verge of tears. But also proud that such men exist. And still do. All you need do is look around.
Well done Mr. Cooper. Well done indeed. And, as if I didn't have enough respect for the surly MSGT - it just rose another two notches. SEMPER FI Willy Trent!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2020The story of Willy Trent is one for the ages. Besides being an outstanding football player in his youth, he was studious,a leader and had a wonderful relationship with his mother. Though economic times were difficult for him and his mother, life was pretty good. The death of his mother had a significant impact on him, showing his love of her. Joining the Marines instead of playing football in college and going into the NFL showed that Willie was a person of principle. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in people.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2022This short story gave a great insight to how Willy Trent wound up in the Marine Corps. It was straight forward, heartbreaking, and a good introduction to this character.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2015We all face those decisions in our lives that later have a huge impact on what we choose and who we become. Those decisions become our defining moments. In Chosen we learn about Willy Trent's background and the loving bond he has with his mother. The lessons that she teaches him about life and how to live it are priceless. The story was beautifully written and evoked a lot of emotions. Because of what his mother had taught him, Willy was able to make the decision that became a defining moment leading him to become the man we read about in the Corp Justice Series. A great short read from CG Cooper.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2015This novella digs deeper into Willy Trent "Top" and the forces behind his choice in becoming a Marine. At some time it would be great to see wht he also becomes a chef, and if indeed instructors had a field day with him.
I laughed, cried, and identified. Cooper brings the character into 3D, making you feel as if you know Willy. A must read. If you enjoy, check out some of his other novels - he tackles real current events with Marine values, action, friendship, etc. and will take you on rollercoaster rides. Great page turners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Well written. As I read I felt like I was there, in the story. I could see the football teams, hear the crowds, feel the glory. Then the sadness and grief. Finally the joy as the right decision was made

5.0 out of 5 stars Willy Trent's Motivation
A fascinating and moving account of how Willy decided to volunteer for the Corps - hopefully there will be more like this for the other members of the Justice group.
