Christmas in Bellbird Bay: A perfect heart-warming romance to snuggle up with. Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 428 ratings

Libby Walker never imagined she’d be moving into the dream house she and her husband had purchased for their retirement as a widow. Intent on making a new life for herself in the quiet coastal town of Bellbird Bay, Libby’s life is upended by an unexpected call from her daughter.

Adam Holland’s unhappy childhood and broken home has left him scarred. Content with the life he has built for himself as a journalist and author of political thrillers, Adam arrives in Bellbird Bay to fulfil the deathbed request of an old friend.

When Libby and Adam meet, there is an initial attraction. But Libby is grieving for her late husband and trying to help her daughter sort out her life, and Adam has no intention of forming a relationship, wary of commitment because of how his family was torn apart.

Will the peace and tranquillity of Bellbird Bay help these two move on from old hurts and make this a Christmas to remember, or will events conspire to keep them apart?

A heartwarming tale of family, friends, and how a second chance at love can happen when you least expect it.

Maggie Christensen writes about mature heroines coming to terms with changes in their lives - women who have learned to live and love in later life and the heroes worthy of them, heartwarming stories of second chances. Readers often describe her books as feel-good reads with people you'd want as friends.

After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women's fiction portraying mature women facing life-changing situations. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her frequent visits to family in Oregon, USA, her home on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast.

From her native Glasgow, Scotland, Maggie was lured by the call 'Come and teach in the sun' to Australia, where she worked as a primary school teacher, university lecturer and in educational management. Now living with her husband of thirty years on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by the river on weekends. Her days are spent surrounded by books, either reading or writing them - her idea of heaven!

Meeting the people we had known in earlier books was a part of the pleasure as the series held my attention, book to book. Thank you for creating it all for us to share!

Lovely to be back in Bellbird Bay! Maggie writes so descriptively that I have a clear picture of the bay, the Garden Centre and all the characters new ones and remembered ones. A great read!

It's always so much fun discovering a new to me author that you really enjoy their book.
Though this is the fourth book in the Bellbird Bay series I didn't have a problem just jumping right in and enjoying this book. I enjoyed this one so much I NEED to read the others though.
One of the things I enjoyed about this series is it's about mature women and they are empowered not made to feel less important like in some books.
Libby Walker has moved into her dream house in Bellbird Bay, it's a beautiful coastal area. She never imagined it would be without her husband who has died prematurely, they had such a bright future planned for retirement. She has her big fuzzy mutt keeping her company and though grieving she's not looking for more than female friendships.
Settling in she's made friends with many women in this small, charming area, then she gets the call. Her daughter is devastated, her husband has left her and his daughter. Libby invites them to Bellbird Bay to live with her until she's able to get back on her feet again.
Enter Adam Holland, political thriller author who has come to Bellbird Bay to spread the ashes of his good friend there as his last request. Not planning on staying long or become acclimated to the area and its people the attraction between Libby and Adam is instant on both their parts. Neither of this is planning on this happening.
I want to visit Bellbird Bay; it sounds so peaceful and the people so warm and welcoming.
Second chance romances bring healing to these couples.
You will feel right at home reading this book and want to read more in this series. I know I do.

Another lovely trip to Bellbird Bay, the sun is shining it is Christmas time and time for Libby Walker to perhaps find love again with new comer Adam Holland, there must be some kind of spell in this beautiful seaside town where people find happiness.

Libby moved to Bellbird Bay after the death of her husband two years ago, it was going to be their retirement home but Libby has settled in well on her own with her dog Milo, but then comes a phone call from her daughter Emma who is coming to stay with her daughter Clancy. Libby’s quiet life is changing and then even more so when a new neighbour arrives.

Adam is a well- known author who lives in Canberra, he writes political thrillers after being a journalist who travelled war zones then settled to watch the politics in Canberra, when his best friend passes away Adam is tasked with taking his mates ashes back to his home town of Bellbird Bay, this sees Adam who has steered away from any relationship commitments because of his childhood start re-thinking his life when he meets his neighbour Libby.

Bellbird Bay is just the place for Libby and Adam to look towards the future but not before there are a few hurdles to cross but neither can believe how well they get on and how easy it is to open up to each other and the sparks grow and soon their future is settled, I loved this story, fabulous characters and the setting is the best and of course catching up with friends from other stories was wonderful. This is a book and series that I would highly recommend, it left me smiling.

This book is an examination of friendship, family and getting a second chance at love. Libby, now in her 50's, is still adjusting to life without her husband. She has created a life for herself and is happy with her routines. Yet, her new life is quickly upended when Emma, her daughter, calls to tell her she has been left by her husband and now needs to come stay with her. Emma and her daughter quickly interfere with the routine she has created for herself. A life which is further uprooted when she meets her husband's favorite author. The two quickly develop a friendship that blossoms into more. The two have to handle a lot of issues thrown their way before any resolution is made in the relationship.
I think this book was well written but it was a bit of a disconnect for me. I struggled to connect to the characters and I think that this is really one that an older audience would enjoy. I also felt that some of the characters were a little static and didn't have much development in the story. A couple of plot points seemed to be thrown in and not really resolved in any manner. I think that the story would be more interesting to an older audience for sure. It just wasn't my cup of tea so to speak. I also wish it had been a bit more Christmas.

I love Maggie's books. I love to catch up with others I have read about and see how they are going but then learn of new people in the community. The situations some of these people find themselves in are not unbelievable, it could be your friend next door. It makes you feel like you are part of the community. For me, being a Sunshine Coastal person, I find it so easy to relate to all these friends. I just wish I could go and stay in the little beach houses.

The latest book in this captivating series is yet another lovely read. This heart-warming romance is perfect to snuggle up with at Christmas.
This is the story of Libby and Adam. Libby is recently widowed and she is also supporting her daughter and grandchild through a difficult time. Adam is just visiting Bellbird Bay and isn't interested in romantic relationships. So although the two of them are attracted to each other it seems unlikely anything can come of it.
But this is Bellbird Bay and it's Christmas, so falling in love cannot be resisted.
This book can be read as a standalone but having read the earlier books in the series I liked getting a chance to catch up with some of the characters from these previous novels.

Maggie Christensen has delivered again with old friends in Bellbird Bay and well as allowing us to meet others not yet known about. Initially I felt the storyline was going to be very similar to a previous book in this series, but I was wrong! The plot was refreshingly different, and it was a joy to reconnect with people that we have been introduced to earlier in the tale of Bellbird Bay life.
