Claim Me: A Gritty, Angsty, Love Story (Claiming Kristopher Book 1) Kindle Edition
Drew Matheson sees the best in everyone. Dedicating herself to helping others in response to her father’s death, the twenty-year-old photographer organizes a charity art auction to raise money from wealthy donors. But on the day of the event, her jaw drops when a striking imposter catches her eye by brazenly stealing one of her photos.
Kris McLean’s insides feel as dirty as the jail cell he recently left. Back with the street gang that’s the only family he’s ever really known, the traumatized twenty-four-year-old sneaks into a ritzy fundraiser on a dare. But when he pockets a picture to prove he pulled it off, he’s unexpectedly drawn to the gorgeous woman who snapped the image.
Resolving to search for the intriguing thief, Drew tracks down and befriends the wayward soul. And as Kris’s feelings for the sweet-but-naïve girl blossom, he fears the ghosts of his dark childhood will destroy any chance they have for happiness.
Can these wounded hearts discover the healing they so desperately need in each other’s arms?

- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2022This was one of those books that kept me up way past my bedtime because I just didn’t want to stop reading! Stupid responsibilities always getting in the way of my books!
Kistopher is a man from the wrong side of town, Drew is a woman with sadness and love in her heart. Kris, acting on a dare, crosses paths with Drew and little does he know, it alters the course of their lives.
Kris’s story is heartbreaking and traumatic. I instantly found myself liking him and advocating for him throughout the book. Still, his journey is far from over and I can’t wait to see where he goes in the next book.
Drew has such a big heart, and an ability to see past the surface and into a person’s soul. Her struggles were also hard, but her ability to love despite fighting her own battle made me like her so much.
Im going to also mention Courtney here, because I got such a good vibe from her! She’s a side character, and I feel like we just got a glimpse of her here, but I definitely am looking forward to getting more of her story.
Sometimes I wanted to throw my kindle in frustration at the one step forward and two steps back, especially at the start of the story! Other times, I was hanging onto every word, unable to put the book down! Both responses are a show of how this book captivates your heart and mind. The story is well written, the characters are complex, and this was a great start to a series! So looking forward to the next! Definitely check your triggers before this book, but pick it up!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2022I don't typically read stories that are centered around a straight couple, but I found myself intrigued by the premise of this book and the "boy from the wrong side of the tracks" aspect. While this story is not for the faint of heart, it is very rewarding to those who venture to give it a read.
Kris (Kristopher) has known many of the darker things in life: abuse, drugs, homelessness, crime. When he encounters Drew after performing a dare to impress his "crew", neither of them realizes just how entwined their lives will become from that moment on. Though they come from very different backgrounds, they enter into a friendship that no one else understands initially, and eventually that turns into love. Their journey together is definitely fraught with obstacles, and those obstacles are not resolved/overcome by the end of this book, as this is the first in a series.
I really enjoyed the time that the author took with these characters, letting the reader get to know them for a good bit prior to their first meeting. Then their friendship slowly builds, thanks to the tenacity of Drew and her insight into Kris, beyond what everyone else sees on the surface. He resists her attempts at friendship for quite some time, namely due to trauma he's experienced since childhood, which has made him skeptical about the true intentions of others and what they want from him. Fear of abandonment is also a key factor in this story. If you push everyone away from the beginning, then they can't hurt you when they inevitably leave and they can't take advantage of you if you never let them in.
While this book does not end with a HEA, it does give you the hope that there will be one further into the series. Drew and Kris both have their issues they need to work past, and you are rooting for them to do so, and to find their HEA in the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2022Ok I started writing this review and I found myself wanting to tell you all the whole story I was so excited about sharing it. So I am going to try and praise this book in a few words😬. I REALLY enjoyed reading this, there are two main characters Kristopher the bad boy and Drew a women with a big heart who is struggling with grief.
Right away we meet Kristopher as he is walking out of jail who then meets up with his gang of some really bad friends. However I really liked Christopher right away I felt him struggling to try to become a better person but his friends kept pulling him back into trouble. And then Drew a beautiful woman who is struggling with her grief was just living life trying to do good when they meet and sparks fly. The story then just explodes, and I had to decide do I really need to sleep or do I want to see what happens next, guess what I decided🥱🥱🥱. This is the first book of four and I will be reading book two soon. I believe this is the authors first book and her writing was great, it kept me entertained and wanting more
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2021It's told in third person. While I'm not a fan of third person, the author did this well. It's a well written story that grabs at your heart and holds on. It's worth a read.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2021This is the 1st book in a new series and is Kristopher and Drew’s story. Drew is a photographer who is grieving the loss of her dad, and she has dedicated her life to helping other, and she organises a charity to raise money from wealthy donors, for those less fortunate. Kris is a member of a gang of thugs, and he has recently been released from jail, and on a dare, he steals one of Drew’s photographs from the event, but she witnesses what he has done, which sets her on a mission to track him down, and she ends up befriending him. This is a good story which is emotionally charged, and in intense, heartfelt, raw, gritty, witty, and with passion, and love, which leads to an addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future, and I recommend her work.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2021Claim Me is an intense, emotional dark romance that is difficult to put down. Kristopher is a man from the wrong side of town, tortured by a tragic past. Drew is a beautiful young woman struggling with grief. They meet and sparks fly. They slowly begin a friendship which develops into more. Will they be able to go the distance and overcome the obstacles in their way? This book is a such a good read and I can’t wait for the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love a bad boy!?!
Today’s review is for Angel Jendrick’s ‘Claim Me: A Redemption Romance (Claiming Kristopher Book 1)’. The author reached out to me to inform me that she is relaunching her ‘Claiming Kristopher’ series with new titles and covers and offered me the chance to read and review the first book in the series, which was released earlier this month (July 13th) and I’m so glad I accepted!
We begin our story with twenty-four year old Kristopher, a member of a gang of petty thugs on Vancouver’s notorious Downtown Eastside, now who doesn’t love a bad boy? We learn that not surprisingly, Kristopher hasn’t been blessed with the best of upbringings. He has a talent for poetry and comes across as quite a sensitive individual in the early stages of the story.
We then meet Drew, an outgoing, hardworking, photographer in Toronto who is grieving the loss of her father who died two years previously. It becomes immediately apparent that she is struggling with her grief.
Most of the characters are likeable and I found Kristopher to be quite witty, he was definitely my favourite character throughout the story. I particularly liked the poetry/rap verses and also the dark descriptions of Kristopher’s ongoing nightmares.
For me the plot was predictable but there was enough going on with the characters to keep me interested and invested in the story.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, it’s well written and has some strong characters, a good plot and plenty happening to keep things moving along nicely. I always know when I have been reading a good book. The tell tale sign is when time passes me by without asking permission - this was definitely one of those books and a solid four star read for me!
