Claw of Exile: He Kills to Survive (Echoes of Exile Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 169 ratings

Exiled.
Cursed. Abandoned. Ryu Suzuki is no stranger to these things.
For years he wandered the Outlands with nothing but his Katana to keep him safe.
Kuroi Kage—Black Shadow is what they call him. A phantom Omega. Rejected by his pack he belongs nowhere, banished to the abyss where the slightest weakness can mean death.
Ryu is content with this life.
Until a vicious disease spreads like wildfire and threatens everyone he loves.
Forced to go back to his long-forgotten pack, the Silvercrest Howlers, Ryu ends up face to face with the alpha who ruined everything in the first place.
The Alpha that betrayed him.
The White Lotus.
Micah McCorbyn.
He also happens to be his mate.
Cold. Calculated. Formidable.
Every decision. Every step. Every thought.
Every breath Micah controlled.
Ryu’s hatred for Micah burns brighter than the sun.
But then again, so does his love.

Warning: this is a dark mm romance werewolf shifter series, with an HFN ending, forced proximity, and enemies-to-lovers themes. It includes violence, gore, dubious consent, forced mating, and also a bully romance story. Please read with caution.

Literature is in my veins and the words pour out of my blood. Message me privately to join the mailing list. I like my artsy with a bit of fartsy. I love Sundays spent drinking massive amounts of coffee and lingering over whichever book I am currently enthralled with. Favorite movies: American Beauty. Duh. What can I say? It’s a classic. Favorite place: The fort I built in my basement which my mom forced me to take down. Favorite food: Cheetos. Puffs. I don’t know what everything is crazy about the crunchy ones are crap.

Micah and Ryu's story has all the really good elements that will keep the reader glued to see what will happen next with each page that is turned. Their story did just that for me. I'm talking about mystery, suspense, and a whole lot of darkness. Oh, and some passionate sex. Also, all of the characters played an important role. This gave the story depth. Everything had meaning in their story. Nothing was thrown in as fillers. I'm on to the next book in this very interesting series. I highly recommend. Enjoy! 😊

This was a very good story even though there were a lot of grammatical mistakes. A good editing could fix that. But it has a lot of morality and ethical lessons that I think many people should read. I honestly cried through most of the story. I've already prepaid for the next installment and can't wait to read it. The love was deep even though it was filled with mistakes made, but that's the result of loving young, before you know how to love right. The road to forgiveness is truly tricky.

I was really sucked into the plot from the beginning. Ryu has been exiled since he betrayed the clan that enslaved him. Even though he was born a slave and was subjected to horrendous conditions, he still manages to perform the unimaginable as an Omega. That man's Alpha and wife betray him: Micah. Ryu, on the other hand, must return in order to save a dearly loved one from an awful. This was an incredibly compelling novel, and I want to continue reading the sequel.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A great beginning that hooks the reader right away. Liked the premise of the story and basic set up also. The main character is fairly complex. There is some heat and romance, which is a plus with quite a bit of action. The desire to know the ending will keep you reading. But I found myself skimming a lot of past retelling of main character's life. And some parts of the book is just hard to push through. Maybe it was the writing style, maybe just how everything was tied together and represented. Really wanted to like the book more.

This book is soooooooo good. It’s a different take on shifter. I was confused at first but throughout the book it keeps jumping from the past to the present so you can get a glimpse of Ryu’s life.
Ryu is this beautiful omega who came from nothing and his whole life has been one tragedy after another. He is betrayed over and over by those he trust and love and it’s just really sad.
You meet Micah who is going to be the head of the clan and he falls in love with Ryu.
Can’t wait to read next book

I feel like this book had a new spin on wolf shifters and the world that is set in Japan.
There's a very strict hierarchy among the alpha, delta wnd omega wolves and and the different clans have their own rules and customs snd the war between the clan is brutal and has been going on for ages.

I couldn't help feeling for Ryu and was both sad and angry for him snd all that he has been through.
Micah takes a time to warm up to since we don't know his side, but his feelings for Ryu are constant.
The story isn't sweet and fluffy, it's violent, brutal and has both war and torture in it. And that's why I root for Ryu and for his chance of the happiness he deserves.

This story was very different from the usual shifter type of stories. It held my interest enough that I've reread it over 3 times already and am about to read it again I love the character of Ryu especially and don't want to wait until December to finish the series! On top of that, I wish there were more than 3 books in the series and I would buy all of them.

I really appreciate the characters and how you can see them grow and be better and of course the love they have for each other although it’s damaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightfully, deliciously dark surprise...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2022
I loved the entire backdrop/world this dark, enchanting, thrilling, magical tale is set in. I was surprised by how I immediately took to and enjoyed everything about Ryu from the very firs introduction of the character - I thoroughly enjoyed reading an Omega that wasn't your usual 'damsel-in-distress' type, he is flawed, hurt and emotionally wrecked but still somehow honourable, dedicated and ready to fight for what feels right, no matter the cost.

He was completely opposite to Micah. I enjoyed seeing that weird juxtaposition of these two MCs (highlighted by even the colour of each if their wolves' fur)...Micah, seen as the epitome of near perfection, loved, respected, admired and highly valued. And Ryu..despised as the lowest, denigrated, abused and worse....

The more I read, the more I came to see layers to both characters (& others) that continually changed things, but kept me riveted and yearning for more... can't wait for the next book.
