- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019Contamination was sadly not as good as the first book Germination in this series written by Jamie Thornton. Based on the first book I had high expectations on this next book, but they were just not fulfilled. Don't take me wrong, Contamination is not a bad book, but it just wasn't amazing as I hoped it would be.
The plot in this one was a little bit more run of the mill, the virus now is breaking out and people are now lured to go to supposed safe points, which they never are. This is what the plot is for the most part about, while also explaining how the second stage vaccine works but also explaining the authors version of the "zombie virus" and what it does to the people and why we think of the people infected of as zombies. This part I did enjoy and thought was very interesting and unique. Also not too far fetched in my eyes. A virus re-animating the dead, yeah not so much, but this version of it is now not as far fetched at all.
The part I was not too crazy about, Corrina. There were some parts about this main character I liked. In general she meant well and her heart was in the right place and all, but some of the things she was doing was seriously just driving me crazy. And yes I know she had the infection in her system but still. I just couldn't connect with that character at all, for whatever reasons. I was happy to see that some characters from the first book were back and I really did like Maibe. So I will read the other 2 books because I want to see how this will all work out, can't help myself, curiosity killed the cat.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018Interesting read. Thought it was about zombies... And it is, sort of. Different. I did get invested towards the end and am interested in reading the next book. It never really grabbed me until towards the end, I had to push myself to continue reading but am glad I did. I didn't rate it higher mainly because it didn't grab me from the beginning.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2019This book was a very fun read. As I was reading it I mentioned a few parts to my husband and my son was so interested he asked to read it. Both of us loved it and can't wait to get the rest of the series. Perfect book for both adults and teenagers. No strong scenes and no sex. No major violence. Perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2019I found this book unsatisfying. As the reader I was in as much of a fog as the main character. I struggled to finish the book but I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018Apparently there is a book 0. I didn't know that. This book took me by surprise. This was NOT at all what I expected. At first I was NOT happy about things but then realized it was quite unique and a different spin on things and I really started to enjoy it. She has a calm writing quality about her and I was definitely drawn in on this journey and swept away by something very very different. Good job! Wish they had a sale for books 2/3. I know, I'm cheap. I usually read from kindle unlimited, 99 cents or less or other free books. But I'm curious to continue this journey and I might just have to go back and read book 0.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Being a fan of The Walking Dead, I was looking forward to Ms. Thornton’s view in her novel Contamination. I was not disappointed. I love her ability to put a unique slant on her characters, villains, settings and action. To say nothing of her overall tale.
In Contamination the plague that engulfs the world has different results under different circumstances. The protagonist is not particularly lovable, but she grows on you and you begin to see her as a human with faults and virtues. Do her virtues outweigh her faults? I believe each reader will make his or her own decision. But you cannot deny she is not ordinary.
As the tale unfolds four people are forced from their homes by an invasion of contaminated people bent on wreaking havoc and death upon them and anyone they see. The foursome set out in a luxury RV, picking up other survivors as they try to reach safety. But safety eludes the group and they are forced to separate. The travelers come up against many hazards in their attempt to reach safety. But death awaits them with many faces. But there are also many faces of life. The goal is to find those faces.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019Interesting take on a "zombie" apocalypse--a viral/bacteriological plague that leaves its victims in one of three states. I'm two-thirds through the book and am eager to complete it. Recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
A different twist on the Zombie story with some questions about modern life. Definitely worth a read. It has enough twists and turns to keep you hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contamination by Jamie Thornton
This post apocalyptic thriller was a very good read which I enjoyed very much. The characters feel very real and have real problems like you and I as well as all the problems that occur when society breaks down. Trying to get through them in this apocalyptic new age only complicates matters further. This is a new slant on the cause of the apocalypse which was very believable. This was my second read of this novel and I enjoyed just as much as the first time. Throughly enjoyable read, on to the next in the series!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre central character, weak plottting
Just to get it off my chest. Coyotes DO go in packs - most often parents teaching the young how to hunt.
Now: It may be nice to have a central character who emotes and feels so much for her fellow humans, but having her last as long as she did given the complete senselessness of her actions and sucking others into her post-apocalyptic love fest if just plain stupid. The bunch she somehow suckers into helping her get wasted for what ? Her 'love' for a guy that ............ well, that's enough said.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read
I started with a sample download, which immediately had me hooked, wanting more of the nailbiting stuff this author so skillfully puts to paper. This book rekindled the passion of some old, neglected genre-loves of mine: dystopia, horror, and suspense.
The underlying theme of 'staying human in a world stripped of humanity' - in a physical and metaphysical sense, which is to me paramount in dystopian (horror) novels, is very well executed. Although, sometimes Corrina takes things too far, which makes her less believable. A little ruthlessness would give her a sharper edge. Having said that: I enjoyed the story. I liked the characters, and I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Halfway through the book, still lost
I love this genre of books, and was excited to settle in to read this.
However, about halfway through the book I was still lost. The author spends a lot of time telling you things that don't progress the story line and don't relate to what is happening.. and I just didn't feel like I understood the main character at all. It really reads like a 'chapter 2' as if the writer assumes I already know these people and why they do what they do. SO MANY half-sentences in the book, that super-frustrating "i'm about to say something important but something very minor cut me off". I don't want to give anything away for those that are going to read it, but this was a pass for me. I don't frequently stop reading books, but I did put this one down and moved on.
