Custodians: The Solution for an Earth in Crisis: Science, Indigenous Wisdom, the Natural World and You Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

The earth is in crisis; humanity is set on a course of destruction. It is no coincidence as each mirrors the other. The fabric of the universe is woven together with a connecting thread - we are all intricately entwined and connected. This wisdom has been lost in the modern world but Custodians guides you to the truth about interconnectedness and how it can bring harmony, love and healing to you and the earth.

Journey with Custodians through newly regenerated forests in Africa to the tribes in West Papua. Discover nature's system of carrying fertiliser from the Bodélé Depression in Africa to the Amazon and marvel at the resilience and strength of nature as it returns to abandoned coal mines in England after only 25-years.

With conscious choices and actions, we can unlock our authentic desires and return to a wonder for the vitality of life. Unhappiness and emptiness can be transformed into worthiness and love. The earth’s current bleak future can be reversed. Backed up by science, wisdom from indigenous tribes and nature itself, Custodians gives you the map to find a better way of living for you and our planet.

VINCENT McMAHON is a writer and speaker who has been passionate about nature, the earth and how we relate to the natural world since he was a child playing on riverbanks.
Vincent has co-founded of The Istituto dei Custodi dei Bio Nessi (The Institute of Custodians of Bio-Connections) to preserve and protect the integrity of the connections between nature, people and our food.
Vincent’s own training includes shamanism, consciousness, psychology, sustainability, relationship dynamics and ecosystems.
Over the years he has run training courses in Ireland, England, France and the Channel Islands. Vincent has written for and lectured on a degree program course in Quantum Consciousness for a college in Australia.
His travels have taken him around the world to such places as a Buddhist monastery beside the Gobi desert, training with a mystic in the mountains of Peru and living with a tribe in the Highlands of West Papua.
Vincent has been appointed Ambassador by the Winam Eragayam Tribal Council of West Papua to help them protect their rainforests from destruction.
Vincent also has 30 years of business consulting experience, including sitting on Finance Boards and National Strategy committees and also lecturing on a Masters program for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Originally from Ireland, Vincent now lives in Southern Italy beside the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, an area of outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity.
Vincent’s understanding of science and consciousness and his time with indigenous peoples has taught him that we live in an interconnected and loving world.

An empowering read. This gave me so much hope that we can make a difference in the world and gave me the practical steps to do something. The psychology of why we do what we do to the earth is MIND BLOWING but again, there are easy practical steps with regard to how we can change. My big takeaways are that we live in an interconnected world and galaxy, we are connected to each other as humans and to the earth and if that we feel connected, worthy and loved that we make different choices, choices that do not have a detrimental impact on the earth. A must read if you want to ‘be the change’.

Vincent is amazing! Very descriptive and informative. A great read.

Opened my eyes to how humans all over this fragile planet use, and abuse, her resources. The book also gives beautiful ways to be “aware “ so that we can honor and restore what is naturally here.

We have the Magick in all of us to change. Lots of great ideas and meditations in this book to help guide a motivational reader.

    Enjoyed it tremendously!

Excellent road map for all of us to make positive changes to heal ourselves and the planet.

If you're looking for something on the wonders of nature and what it does to support an incredibly diverse range of inhabitants and habitats, that's in here.
Or you're looking for some of the science stuff on what makes it so, that's in here, too.
And, alongside these, ancient wisdoms garnered from tribes and traditions with eons more depth and history than you'll get on your average sponsored link in Facebook.

The book picks up on - and joins the dots on - an Attenborough-esqe landscape of remarkable things that nature can do, and has been doing, to reinstate things (animals, bird-life, habitats etc.) that one might be forgiven for thinking had been lost from various areas of the planet. So often through our own hands, as humans, of course.
That said, it's not one of those diatribes on "everything we've done wrong with this little place".
Not by a long shot: At its heart, it's a book about possibilities.

Rather than dwell on what "we've done to the place", it's a story of things (big, and small) that we CAN do, individually, and collectively.
Things we can teach our kids (and, in some cases, remind ourselves) that can make a difference.
Things we can do that can give this little piece of land that we live on "a chance to breathe", to heal, to continue to nourish us, everyone else, and everything else that relies on it.

    Because we're all connected.
And, because of the reach and the impact that we have on things, as humans, it strives to remind us that we are indeed custodians of this little blue dot.
"When we cherish ourselves, and the world in which we live, we become the antidote".

    Isn't that worth the investment?

5.0 out of 5 stars Timely, fascinating, important and hopeful

This is a fascinating, inspiring and ultimately, incredibly hopeful, read. While we are living in alarming and precarious times, the author writes with knowledge and passion of the grace, power, interconnectedness, intelligence and resilience of nature. As a part of nature, humanity is in as great a crisis as the other life forms struggling for survival at this time. Custodians explores how it’s not too late for us to re-engage, to move from emptiness and despair to fulfillment and love; to consciously come home to our belonging, inseparable from the web of life on Earth and the fabric of the universe. Drawing on science, Indigenous Wisdom and the wonders of the natural world and human potential, Custodians is a beautifully written handbook to becoming a one Earth community of interconnected planetary custodians. It speaks directly to the hearts and minds of each one of us and we must listen.
