Cyanide With Compliments (Pollard & Toye Investigations Book 5) Kindle Edition
There is no greater disaster than greed…
When Audrey Vickers is found dead in her bedroom – poisoned by chocolates posted through her letterbox – suspicion is immediately thrown on her niece, Drusilla, who she is known to have argued with days before the murder.
But Mrs Vickers was a very difficult old woman, and it soon becomes clear there are plenty of other people who may have wanted her dead.
With the crime falling under the jurisdiction of the Highcastle police force, who had worked with Scotland Yard a few years ago, Detective Superintendent Pollard and Detective Sergeant Toye are once more drafted in to help.
Is this an open and shut case? Did Drusilla poison her aunt?
Or did someone else send her Cyanide With Compliments?
Cyanide With Compliments is the fifth cosy village mystery in the Pollard & Toye crime series: an intriguing police procedural set in rural England.
'All the ingredients of a first class murder mystery are included in the book and to give even the slightest inkling of the story would be to ruin the pleasure gained from reading it' – Southern News
'In the best Agatha Christie tradition' – Argosy

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNo blood spatters or gore, no shooting at and missing everyone in sight, just an interesting who dunnit puzzle. My favorite kind, what I mainly look for in a mystery. I just wish the entire series was available on kindle
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchasePollard and Toye once again become embroiled in murder and conspiracy, this time stretching all the way to Italy. Mrs. Olivia Strode once again helps out. Excellently drawn characters. A light but entertaining read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2014I liked the book. Although it was more recent than the English detective novels that I usually read, I thought that it was well plotted and the characters interesting. It was the first of this author that I have read and I have another six of her works to read so I will see if the others meet the same standards.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother book in this series, that is a great read.
The books seem to be getting better with each new book in series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2005The characters aren't very well drawn, but the plot is good. An Adriatic cruise, a very nasty aunt, a couple of red herrings (American); plot at a standstill two-thirds of the way through -- & then everything unravels. A pleasant reading break.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA relaxing read with just enough twists and turns to keep me interested

5.0 out of 5 stars Good mind stretching
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have really enjoyed all of the books in this series. The characters are great and I really like the way the author leads you to the solution but you don't really know until the end. And I enjoy the way she leads you to think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOn returning from a cruise in the Mediterranean Mrs Audrey Vickers is murdered by chocolates containing cyanide which were delivered by post. The most obvious candidates for the murder are her niece and her husband who were on the cruise with Mrs Vickers and had a terrible argument prior to the cruise ending. It is only Detective Superintendent Pollards intuition that they are innocent that they start looking into other possible suspects.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chocolates are again the cause of a serious health problem. !
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book revisits a few of the characters from Book 2 in the series. It is skilfully done and on the way there are some pleasant scenes from Greece and Venice which play an important part later on in the book. As ever with these detectives ,manners are to the fore ;Pollard is almost more polite than Bellair's Littlejohn. !
There were some very good subplots but maybe the endings could be a little more devious ,or is it just I have read too many Gadetective crime fiction. ? As ever the ghost of Freeman Wills Crofts sits in the background;enthusiasts will know at which points !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally absorbing
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother exciting episode in the delightful detective series featuring D.Sup Pollard and DS Toye. Partly set in Italy, red herrings abound, but as ever our intrepid detectives leave no stone unturned in order to catch the murderer. Highly entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling mystery
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAn absorbing mystery which deals with large number of suspects which keep the reader enthralled. Remarkable twists and turns reminding one of the great Agatha Christie!
