Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.

Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.

Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.

Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

This story was full of action. The interaction between Gif and Delia was volatile and entertaining. You could feel the love building throughout the story. I felt like was left hanging at the end. What happened to Piers?

A brave and strong young woman is caught in a nefarious plot. A young man trying to reclaim his heritage is the target for murder.

The book just stopped. No resolving of main issues. Very disconcerting. I have to wonder if the author ran over her editor’s time allotment.

This was a great story!!! It had everything: Georgette Heyer-like wit in places, humor, great characters, clean romance, non-graphic violence, and then…. It just STOPPED!! Georgette Heyer was known for her abrupt endings, but having read or listened to all of her Regencies, I can confidently say that NEVER did one end with the story TOTALLY unresolved. Does Ms. Bailey resolve her story in another book?? Or what??? A solid 5 but giving it a 4 (and quite frankly it should be even less) because of the VERY unsatisfactory ending. Going on to the next one in the series. If it happens again, I’m done.

"Damsel to the Rescue" is a romance set in 1805 in England. The first 15% was delightful. But after the initial rescue, I soon started thinking, "Delia, you may be desperate to get a husband, and Giffard is as handsome as a god and in need of your mothering interference because he's recklessly confident in his own abilities and has poorly thought out plans, but you don't want to marry him!"

Giff was very immature, reckless, and wanted things on his own terms. After having known Delia for only a few hours and with no intention of offering for her, he's very possessive of her and forbad her from speaking to the captain of the militia even though she had good reason to. He hadn't even seen the man yet and knew nothing about him, but he was so jealous of her speaking to another man that he wouldn't believe her that it was only business. When he finally did propose, he warned her that he'd be wildly jealous if she even looked at another man, then he passionately kissed her so that she just gave a dazed "yes" in response. I guess being passionately jealous is supposed to be romantic instead of a warning sign of a future abusive situation.

The story was also unrealistic in many ways. The most obvious was that Giff and his stepfather most have known Giff would need some sort of proof that he was who he said he was. He came without proof and with no idea of how to prove it once in England (as he was a small child when he left). Several characters admit that Giff legally ought to have been left with the father, yet two powerful, rich men (grandfathers of the child) didn't make much of an effort to get the heir to an earldom back. That makes no sense. Anyway, Delia was a delightful character but her disregard for Giff forbidding her to do this or that combined with his prideful, stubborn determination to get his own way didn't strike me as a good romantic combination long term. There was no sex. There was some use of bad language.

This book is a little different from the usual Regency novels. When I was able to put it down I was thinking about it. There is a lot more action in this novel than the norm.

I'm up to number six - Damsel to the Rescue. Love this series, and I'm part way through this one and thought to leave a review because I'm absolutely loving them all. This one gave me the nudge to do so because I'm gasping about all the marvelous action and adventure between the h and H. The writing is just wonderful! So now I'm back to it despite knowing I should be cooking dinner or something. But it is definitely going to be late 'cause I can't bear to stop reading. Elizabeth Bailey you are the greatest!
